I lived in Prince George for a year while going to university...  Remember that it's only an hour flight to Vancouver and there are some fantastic towns to explore in the middle of the province. Best of luck to you!!!   

Of all the places you could have been matched to P.G. is a bit of a surprise.  It's not too mountainous there but there is skiing, snowshoeing and Xcountry skiing.  There is a small local Sprint in mid July.  I think it was at Wolf Lake.  I actually had been planning to do it this year but the schedule didn't work.  The bad part is the ice doesn't break up off the lakes until mid-April.  They do have a pretty decent pool in town though.

I lived in Quesnel for many years (120km south of PG) and my oldest daughter is an RN with the Health Unit in PG.

The city itself is not too bad.  Maybe similar to Red Deer.  It's easy to get around and lots of good hills for cycling.
