Subject: 2014, Run 1000 miles
Last year, several of us embarked on the 1000 mile run challenge. Who is up for the same challenge in 2014? 2.74 miles per day , 19.23 miles per week, 83.34 miles per month. Any takers?

Last year we had a spreadsheet and had the pace rabbit letting us know where we were. Because of the changes in google spreadsheet, I don't think that I can create a spreadsheet this year. How about interested people posting their intentions and then posting their progress mid month and at month's end? Periodically I'll post where a 1000 mile pace rabbit would be on that day therefore everyone can find how far ahead/behind they are.

p.s. I highly recommend people looking at the monthly challenges. There is a January 100 mile challenge right now which will help get the new year started off in the right direction. Challenges that last a whole year lose a lot of people (about 90% dropped out of 1000 miles for 2013) so the monthly challenges really help stay on target.

Count me in. The challenge last year kept me running even when I didn't want to run and I hope this challenge will do the same.

Didn't make the 1000 last year, but a 10k this afternoon will push me to my second highest annual total. Don't know what my "true" annual goal is for this year, but aiming high and coming up short is better than aiming too low and hitting it. Looking at 2 half mary's this year and a return to "Tri's" the end of the summer.

Guess that means I am in again (kind of )

I am really hesitant in joining this challenge but at the same time it is quite exciting. With a full-time work and part-time school, it doesn't give me much time to train.
Maybe I could try to be as close as I can to the 1000 miles.

I'm really excited about 2014.  My goal is 1,500 miles.

Secondary goal is to ride my bike as far as Adrienne runs. It will be fun to watch your year.

Welcome, welcome, welcome!!!!!! So excited to have so many people on the journey!

Several of you have expressed a little hestitancy (sp?) regarding making the 1000 miles but don't worry about it. You must choose a destination before you can begin moving in the correct direction.

It's nice to see some others setting their goals higher too! Adrienne runs crazy great mileage and while sometimes I feel inadequate when I hear about her mileage, it's also inspiring. It's nice to have all kinds of people in the challenge - from this being the first year someone moves toward 1000 miles or whether they run 1000 miles every year. It's nice to have the encouragement, prodding, and inspiration to reach our goal.

Now that we have gotten started, why doesn't everyone tell a little bit about themselves.
1. Name and Logon name
2. Brief bio
3. Maybe a little of your running history

Other things we should always do in this thread is be encouraging. It's perfectly ok to nudge, prod, call out someone but in kind ways. You may have a relationship with someone and can say certain things to them but don't apply those same standards to people you don't know as well. If you see something toward another person that you may not agree with, remember that you don't know the relationship between those two. I'm married to KWDreamun and may call him names when he passes me, but it's all in good fun. Scott frequently calls me out regarding my non-biking but I know it's not malicious.

As far as posting, report here at least a couple of times a month. If you don't report here frequently, your goal will be out of sight and out of mind. It's also important to report back here frequently to get suppot and to encourage/heckle others. Some people may want to report daily and that is great. Also, keep your BT logs updated because it's nice for others to stalk, inspire, see peoples races, etc

Ok, my info.
1. Pam, user name Pink Socks. I started running and training after watching middle school cross country kids wear pink socks in memory of the coach's late wife who died of breast cancer.
2. Wife to KWDreamun, mom to a baseball playing 15 y.o., bad speller, work full time, messy housekeeper, love to read
3. I started running 4 years ago and have since completed ultras, marathons, HM, and other races. I've only done two triatholons and one duathlon and I'm trying to figure out where I'm going with future plans because I'm a horrible biker and while I love swimming for fun, I hate OWS and people crawling over me in races. I love the HM distance and keep saying I'm going to focus on that distance but then apparently I'm a moron because I keep signing up for marathons. I've got a mary in a few weeks. Want a huge PR and if I get it, I may sign up for other marys to hopefully one day BQ. Maybe.

Happy New Year Everyone! Ok, guess it's time for me to go out in the rain and get my first run in for 2014.

Happy New Year! I am excited about 2014 and seeing where my fitness goes in this bright new year.

I ran 6.5 this morning with my run group. What a great way to start a year!

Mary, user name Chunga after a character my nephew made up in a childhood story he liked to write about.

Nurse, love to read, good friends, travel, Mom to 2 great puppies and 1 indifferent cat.

I started running last year and have had a wonderful time with it. I have my first marathon this April. This is the first time I have ever liked running. I did lots of biking last year and I think it gave me the fitness I needed to be able to run enjoyably.

Happy New Year 1,000 milers!

I'm KWDreamun, married to Pinksocks, I know ya'll will learn to feel real sorry for her.

I'm 52 and jsut started running a couple of years ago. I come from a lifting background and I thought is was always good to run hard and fast all the time, yes I was constantly injured and hated running. You see I'm not real smart, it took a LOT of beating in my head to learn to run properly.

Let's see we have a sophmore son in highschool who lives and breathes baseball so that takes a lot of time too.

We are Parrotheads and even "hashers", we like to have fun. Also I'm not wrapped tight, dry sick sense of humor

Ya'll be careful running and have LOTS of fun!

Hi all!

I was in this challenge last year, but ended up injured for the first 3 months.  Ended up changing my goal to 700miles for the year, but didn't quite make it.  But I ran my highest volume ever, stayed healthy and enjoyed the challenge, so I am back.

I'm Kirsten, I'm a lab instructor at a College.  Always athletic, started running in 2009.  I had always wanted to run a marathon, and decided to just do it.  Marathon in 2010, several HM since then. Moved to triathlon a couple years ago, have done a couple HIM and several Oly and sprints.  I'm just about to start training for IM Canada .

I have no 2-legged children, but 4-four leggers (2 cats, 2 dogs) and a SO.  I also take courses by distance ed to finish my BSc.  I have found that scheduling my workouts helps me to get them done.

Happy running everyone!

Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles
Hey, all - I'd love in.

Kristen/enders_shadow

I was a runner before I was a triathlete. Never fast, but on & off through my whole adult life, mostly 5Ks and 10Ks.

I started doing tris in 2007, did a full mary in 2009 and got hurt, laid around for a couple years, started back running in 2011. Did 4 half marys in 2012
and decided to get back in tris. Last year I did 4 half marys in addition to a bunch of tris, including an HIM. 2014 is a big year for me - full mary in March, 2 HIM, and then IM Lou. I'll be doing plenty of running this year.

Last year I hit 758 miles running, but this year is going to be more intense, so if my training holds up, 1000 miles will be easily attainable.

I would like to join the challenge, need a little extra push to keep going.

1. Mambos. (Matt)

2. Ex-smoker/couch sitter that decided I needed to get moving or I wouldn't be able to keep up with my 3 kids. And even with all the exercise I still struggle to keep up, but loving every minute of it .

3. Running has always been my strong suit since I started back in 2010, and Half marathon is probably my favorite run distance, but also sign up for anything with a trail in it!

4. I have hit 1000 miles the last 2 years, so like a few of the others my goal will be a little higher, I will be satisfied if I reach 1350 but ultimately I will be shooting for 1500. My plan will be the following distances (10,3,5,3,5,3), I also thought about doing 5 days per week with (11,3,6,3,6) but if possible try to keep it as stretched as possible. Ultimately wanting to average 29 miles per week.

OK I am in. I'll do my best.

1. My name is Naimi, logon as Poupen.

2. I am a 32 years old man from France but I have been living in Canada for 8 years. I started getting interested in triathlon in 2012 while I was camping in the Okanagan. I saw the Ironman Canada in Penticton and I fell in love with the idea of swimming, biking and running. I thought about it for some time and decided to start training. I did my first sprint triathlon last summer in Vancouver. I am hoping to do many more this year, Olympics and Halves.

3. I ran a lot when I was a teenager until my early 20s; mostly 10K races and trails. I am not sure why but I stopped running for quite some time and a few years ago I decided to go back to running. I play soccer as well, and I have been playing since I was a kid. It kept me in a not too bad shape. Last year I did my first marathon and It wasn't that great(5h09min). I wasn't prepared well and the last 10K were a disaster. I am hoping to do more running this year.

Happy New Year everyone!

Looking to qualify for AGN this year at the Oly distance.  My training plan through May is about 450, so I should be right on track.

1. My name is Adrienne

2.  3 cats all grey, one pug, blonde. Live in Seattle proper with my partner of almost 8 years.

3. I started running at the end of 2011. Worked on volume and consistency in 2012. Added quality workouts in 2013.  I had a BUSY year. I did a few 5Ks and a half marathon before running the Boston Marathon in spring,  then switched over to training for AG Nationals (Olympic Distance) whilst trying to compete in Track & Field Meets (the key word here is trying because I discovered exactly what “trying to do too much” was during this time.) After Nationals I jumped right into run exclusive training for running cross country with a competitive team here in Seattle as a way to work on the strength aspect of running (also learned the value of TAKING SOME TIME OFF between seasons.) I just concluded the cross country season, competing in USATF Cross Country Nationals, took a break and am about to begin training for a spring marathon. Phew!

I'm not sure I can do it, but I'm game to try! I'm still ramping up my mileage slowly, so I'm not quite at a weekly mileage yet to get there, but I'm increasing every week for a while yet, so I can get there and make up fro a slower start.

I won't make 100 miles in January, so that one is out for me, but I'm still continuing a running streak that I started just before Thanksgiving, so I've got a good base started!

I think quite truly for the first time I 'get it'. It's not just about the fitness. It's not just about the great little endorphin rush as you hit 5, 10, 15 miles...its not just the medal at the end.
