324 | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles OK, now for filling out the questionaire... 1. Name and Logon name- Nancy, el penguino. I feel like the penguin is a good description of my running- slow and plodding. I keep going! 2. Brief bio-I'm 44 (as of New Year's Eve) which means I just squeaked in being a 60s child. Married, 2 kids (boys) who are 6 and 11. I'm brand new to tris, going to hopefully do a few this summer. That's the plan anyways. Live in Vermont, where it is currently -12F and snowing. 3. Maybe a little of your running history- I never liked running as a sport growing up, it was a necessary evil. I as on a track team one year in Jr high, and that was enough for me. I'm slow, and always have been, so racing didn't really work for me. Back in 1997, one of my sisters and my brother's girlfriend decided to do a marathon, so I did too (I'm such a lemming). So I trained up, and did the Marine Corps marathon that year. Got a little hurt playing frisbee two weeks later and stop running. Fast forward many years, and this spring I decided to loose some weight and started on a couch25K program; I'm still going (they aren't!) I joined the Holiday streak thread, and ran every day (well, walked a few in the beginning, but no more). |

Extreme Veteran 1222 Tallahassee, Florida | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles Welcome to all of the new people. Don't worry about the sickness and base building and thinking that you will not make 1000. Last year I had PF issues that took me out from Feb to April and I was convinced that I couldn't make 1000 miles. But then after I got the PF issue resolved, I started building again and was able to get the 1000 miles. So you can do it. If you get a little behind, don't worry about it. Just make sure that you do everything safely. And enjoy it all. |

There was a group doing a full ahead of us, the trail was pretty souped up with mud by the return trip. I liked it but it is sure different. |

Extreme Veteran 1123 Sidney, Ohio | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles Originally posted by Chunga I agree the trail races can be so much more work, the ups and down, slipping and sliding just adds an additional workload that your not used to. I ran 8 miles on a snowy trail today and by the time I was finished I felt like I had ran 12 miles. Next weekend should be interesting when I have an 8 mile trail race on Saturday and a 12 mile trail race on Sunday.Originally posted by KWDreamun Got a 13.4 mile trail run in yesterday. I agree with everyone that the trails are so much harder! People talk about the beautiful scenery but I have my eyes glued to the ground in front of me the whole time. I did the same HM that Karl did this weekend and I fell 3 times. I think I got to glance up about 7 seconds of the whole race. Matt, admire you for doing two trail runs in a row. You are a glutton for punishment. Mary is this the same lady who recently ran 9 miles as her longest run ever? I'm so proud of you! Ok everyone the pace bunny is at 13.7 miles right now. How is everyone doing? I'm a little ahead with 18+ but this week is supposed to be record colds for Florida and I won't be outside running. Keep up the good work everyone! |

Veteran 501 Seattle, Washington | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles Oh! Count me in! I'm Christina/MechEChick I'm a 27 year old engineer who loves all things outdoors. I started running in high school, quit in college and picked it back up again in 2009. I did my first HM in 2009, first HIM in 2012 and first IM in 2012. This year I'm shooting for that 2nd IM and perhaps a trail ultra! So I think 1000 running miles will fit in nicely. 2014!! |

Veteran 495 Calgary | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles I'm in. The most that I have done in one year is about 850 miles. I have a lot weeks and months with the kind of mileage that's necessary but I've never had the consistency to make it add up to 1000 miles at the end of the year. 1. Don / donw 2. 51 years old. Married with three kids - actually two are adults now. Engineer. 3. I have always loved sports. Long time squash player, mountain biker and cross country skier. I started running and trained somewhat seriously for some races for 2-3 years back around 2002. Then drifted away from running and into other sports. Then picked up running and triathlon in 2010. I have focused on 5 - 10 km running races and sprint & Oly triathlons with one half marathon back around 2004. I'm thinking of doing another HM so this challenge fits well with my running goals. Master 4452 | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles Hi all. Finally got my first run of 2014 in tonight. To be honest, I was planning on taking a few days off of running, just to recharge, and lo and behold, I get sick. Sigh. Still have a bit of a sore throat, but wanted to get out and get a short one in. Just 1.5 miles, but gotta start somewhere! Looks like everyone is off to a good start. |

The year is off to a great start though. |

Expert 4928 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles Originally posted by jmhpsu93 Injury-willing...I'm in. Looking to qualify for AGN this year at the Oly distance. My training plan through May is about 450, so I should be right on track. 1. Mike (jmhpsu93) 2. 44YO, married with an 11YO daughter (who swims better than me...well, a LOT better than me ). We live in Baltimore City. 3. I ran XC in high school and then switched to team sports in college and my 20s, primarily soccer, volleyball, basketball, and softball. Worked out and ran fairly regularly in my 30s but not competitively. In 2006 I had hit 227 on the scale, which prompted me to sign up for an HM. Four of those later, I decided to get into triathlons. I've had a slew of injuries over the last couple of years: knees, low back, feet, you name it. About 98% right now so I'll take it. I had a very successful 2nd half of 2013 once I got the injuries under control and started running with more consistency. I'm a Daniels Running Formula groupie, and I PR'd the 5K, 5M, and 10K distances in the fall using the principles. Looking forward to getting 1K in this year! |
