Subject: RE: Gary Bjorkland Half MarathonBirkierunner - 2009-01-29 6:38 AM Plissken74 - 2009-01-29 11:36 PM Great job! I think we have the same performances in terms of running times and HR pacing. Last december I did 1h18'16" on a hilly course and I registered same exact HR averages. And this HR is consistent since 4 years on half marathons. It is not common to find somebody with same race speed and same HR. I am preparing for the full marathon now...are you going for the full too?
nope, I got bored with marathons after 10 of them (page 2 of my race results) and that's why I started tris. Getting ready for 2 Ironmans this summer. I do plan on setting aside time in the next couple of years to focus on a fast marathon. I fully agree with your feeling. I did 7 marathons in 2 years (2004 and 2005) and then I stopped after going well below 3hrs. Switched to tris last year. Now again in marathon for a fast one. I think we can do below 2h50' with these half marathons time... But then a question: were you able to give up 2 or 3 running training per week for going smarter on Ironman preparation? It is still annoying me but I know I should do it if I want to improve my IM and HIM times. I am much better on HIM with 4h45' last year and now I want to get a slot for Florida...IM is too though for a slot. I should run probably no more than 4 times per week and hammering on the bike 5x per week...

Up at 2:30 to eat a banana and bottle of Ensure then back to bed. Up again at 3:45 to get ready to go the DECC to catch the race shuttle bus. Arrived at the start area very early about 5 AM - too early. The start area for the half marathon is very small and doesn't have nearly the room to spread out as Grandmas Marathon. Said a quick hello to Bryan (mndiver). I brought a large plastic bag with me and spread it out on the side of the road and put some clothes on top for cushion and just sat down and stretched. Most people came with no warmup clothes, just their race clothes, and stayed standing for 1.5 hours - what are they thinking??
Absolutely zero warmup, which is not what I wanted. There were tons of people coming toward the start corral from the buses and I didn't want to fight against traffic to go warmup. So, I got in one of the long lines to use the porta-john and tried to get my legs warmed up by running in place. Third trip to john was close to start time and after about 20 minutes of waiting to pee and coming within 4 people of getting the next one, I decided to bail and go to the start area so that I could get a decent spot. How long can I hold it?
