2 am sounds pretty good to me.

IT also depends on what I want and how bad I want it. I never assume I will get the ticketed items because well you need to go at 7 pm the night before for that.

No way in hell would I ever (even on a dare) venture into that morass of stupidity that is the local mall on the day after thanksgiving. I'll be riding my bike tyvm.

MRS2Tony used to work at Kohl's in Omaha. The store opened at 5 a.m. She had to be there by 4:30. So she arrived about 4:15 and there was a HUGE mass of people in front of the door so she started picking her way through these idiots and one lady grabbed her and said `You can't cut in line! SHE'S TRYING TO CUT IN LINE!!!' and started pushing her back. She said `I'm an employee you fu**ing idiot!' and the lady, all startled, let go of her.

Not only until after my wife, by now all ruffled up from being pushed around by these pathetic people, got into the store did she realize that she likely could be fired if the lady said anything to her boss. Like she cared. It was a second job where she worked once a week.

People get STUPID on that day and I try to avoid them altogether.

Last year I went alone for a quick trip to Cicuit City to get a disc for my digital camera on sale for something like $5.  It wasn't too bad since I was alone and knew what I was getting myself into.  This year I MAY attempt a trip to the mall with my oldest daughter.  not because we want to buy anything but because I've been promising her a trip there alone and that looks like the only day of our 5 day weekend to do it!  I'm scared of that though.

Not me.  I used to work in retail and I feel guilty about shopping that day.  I am bringing some cookies to the store where I used to work.  It's so hard to get food, so it's always nice to have snacks.

I didn't see any good ads that make me want to go out and shop either.

If I were home, I'd be hitting Performance bikes for the 20% off total purchase deal from 7 am to 9am.  Need some winter stuff.

Alas, I will be up in the Sierra Nevadas enjoying a white Thanksgiving!

The last three or four years, I'm pretty much all on-line shopping all year round. Not a fan of shopping I go buying.

I used to work black friday and now I have it off.

Lines are getting bigger each year I swear and the deals are not as good. You used to go into a store and get tons of things for free and you do not have that anymore.

I just remember seeing the video of people getting trampled by the mobs at walmart when they opened the doors.  All for $50 off a crummy TV or $100 off a laptop.   I'll gladly sleep in and pay extra the week later to avoid the crazies.

My wife worked retail for years.  This is the first year she is not working on black friday in 10 years, so I am sure there is no way in hell she is going to a store that day

You couldn't pay me to go but some of these ads are pretty tempting, you have to admit it. A couple of guys I work with get all excited for this every year.

Without the nuance of face to face discussion, this sounds really condescending.

I am. I doubt the stores I'm going to will be crazy though, since I'm shopping for a new king size bed and dining furniture. I do expect the traffic to be nutz, but since I live in SoCal and the traffic nutz everyday anyway, it'll be SSDD as far as that goes. Don't know what time...whenever MrUSMC gets home from surfing.

Hmmm, unless you're at Mammoth, you won't be seeing very much white.  Here in Tahoe, we got a spit yesterday during the day, but all I'm seeing is dirt these days.

As for shopping, I will be in my pajamas surfing the internet.

Only once have I ever done it. And that was only because there were two things in particular I wanted at one particular store that were on an incredible sale. I waited before the store opened, and then got in and out in 15 minutes. Game done. I hate it.

Mammoth it is    But I am not even bringing skis or snowboard.  Can't believe people pay upwards of $40 or $50 for a lift ticket for 3 or 4 runs.  As of today, they only have one run open

Actually brining the tri bike to get some nice high altitude training in

ABSOLUTELY NOT!  The sales aren't that great for things I don't need.

I actually try to avoid retail stores from Thanksgiving until New Years....

Well, I'm a Senior Mgr for a high service retail dpt store so I'll be working. In fact my team mates and training buddies know they will see little of me through December.

But I get 4 weeks vacation and because of my flexible schedule I work 2 lates and off 2 days per week enabling me to train 4 days a week w/ no issues....

My sister and I always used to go shopping together on Black Friday.  Just our little tradition.  I don't know if we ever bought much, just shopped a bit, got some food, a couple beers, shot the sh1t, etc.  Was always fun.

Now we're both grown up with kids.  And don't go anywhere near the mall on Black Friday.

We'll be venturing out on "Black Friday", but not for shopping.

We're having Thursday evening dinner with Eric's dad's family, then driving 5+ hours to his mom's in Redding, getting in in the wee hours of the morning.

I believe the actual plan is to sleep in on Friday, then get up and do a nice, long bike ride.  Yay bikes!

I actually kind of enjoy shopping on that day. For kicks, I like to watch people pushing and shoving and chewing each other out over kids toys, all in the name of the Christmas spirit! Just as the fight gets to its height, I like to cheerfully offer a "Merry Christmas".

I can always envision the December 26th guilt trip at one of the fighter's houses. I can imagine that little junior is being a little bratish wanting a slightly different version of what the parent worked so hard to get and the parent getting mad. "I worked all year to earn the money to buy that. I got up at 10pm, stood all night in line in the freezing cold beside a man who needed a shower, fought off two homeless guys who needed a little money for a meal. Then, I cussed out two store clerks, pushed down a grandma and broke in line to make sure I got that ..."

Oh, the holiday cheer is here to stay!

We go and point out to my mom the various things we want that can be purchased at the mall. Then, depending on the sales that day, we will wander away for awhile and she and my father do some shopping. Mostly, it's just to get ideas, though.
