I'm thinking it can only help by keeping the next few days light. There's no reason you can't still have a killer race ... especially in spike heels. Errr, spikes. What was I thinking?! There's no GOOD evidence that stuff like echinacea, zinc, Emergen-C blah blah blah etc. will help, but they won't hurt, and they might help. ETA: orgasms. Lots of orgasms. No, I'm not kidding. Also, as a proud Asian, I believe a crapton of spice can only help, too. Not jalapenos, and definitely not the day before, though. ETA2: forkload of garlic. I realize that may contradict ETA1, but ... hey. Just a touch of a sore throat, tiny bit of fatigue. It pretty much happens any time I spend time with my nieces. But look at em! How could you not! Anyway, I will take your advice but I am going to do a hard workout tonight and see how it goes. In my experience, sometimes that is just what I need to burn it our of me. If it doesn't work as planned I have 3 more days to just do nothing if need be. Haha, I didn't have problems with getting sick until my sister had kids! |

A mineral steam bath did wonders for my husband one time. We went to Glenwood Springs in Colorado to a spa that had a cave and sweat a lot. He was better. I hate colds. Absolutely hate them. |

Plenty of fluids, plenty of rest. Keep yourself warm (don't be chilled or cold). Take zinc, Zicam, Emergen-C, Alka-Seltzer cold, whatever, load up on vitamin C. x2 on the garlic as well as the rest of Yanti's advice. Colds suck. Just one more reason to greatly dislike this time of year. Heal up, buttercup! Edited to add: your nieces are VERY cute, germs and all! Edited by melbo55 2013-10-30 12:23 PM |

So much fun when something comes together. Yes! And God bless them indeed. Especially when they are in Speedos. I didn't get any pictures of Paul in Speedos. It was a cold and rainy day. I still need to write up about our meeting--so amazing and I also got to chew on Shelley Taylor-Smith's and David Locke's ears! (Only figuratively, sadly, but still). Big {MELON PRESS} for them both, though. I was seriously overwhelmed by awesome that day. For the rest of you rabble-rousers--you should especially read up on Shelley. I worship her. shelley is a good friend of Coach Johnny's. Nuff said. I worship her too. |

I've had practically no pain as i've taken them since before the numbness wore off. however lightheaded is an understatement - i can't feel my feet at the moment - i suspect I am flying - or floating in my chair Mary Poppins style. Weird. I need to go lie down again! |

Cool down - 300 very easy Have fun Hey Stacey, I may have missed you as I think it's after midnight your time, but, as promised, I'm going to try this set today, and I have no idea how to do the kick set. Front and Back I've got, but are left and right like a side stroke or more of a sweet spot kinda thing? What are my arms doing for these? by my side? overhead but shoulder width apart? stream line? Left side is with left arm outstretched and right arm down by your side; body is slightly rotated to left (similar to the position you'd be in if you were catching with your left and breathing to the right). Right is opposite. Yanti got it spot on, they call it the superman but it's on your side. |

However, when you add it to the words "It's Whopper Time!", you get a name tag of awesome quality. Originally posted by cdban66 Originally posted by brigby1 Originally posted by cdban66 Question for you bike savvy folks: I have added intensity this year to my bike training. Strava segments seem to help me on this. I am trying to find a happy medium though. When running, I follow the old adage, "run often, mostly easy, sometimes hard". However, the bike is a bit different, so I'm just trying to get some ideas as I put together a bike program for the winter. How often do you ride hard vs recovery rides? If you're going to keep riding 2-3 times a week, all of them. Well, as many of those as you're willing to push it, taking an easy one every few weeks for mental sanity. Just to enjoy being out on the bike. There isn't so much of a ratio of hard to easy, but an amount of hard that can be handled. Biking doesn't have the impact loading like the run does, so things flip around. Schedule in the hard parts and then ride easier around that to get more in. Also take a look at the composition of the hard. As in how hard and for how long. Metrics like HR and power are good to help with that. Basically any riding harder than easy will help more than just going easy, but different levels of hard have different levels of effectiveness. As seen in Table 2 here. Note that Z6 & Z7 do little to nothing towards Z5 and under (which is aerobic development that we really want to target), though one would be a stronger cyclist in some sense by improving there. Thinking like full out sprints on those two. Thanks, this is kinda what I was expecting. I sorta figured it was like the standard running rule, but backwards. "Ride often, mostly hard, sometimes easy". If that makes any sense. Yeah, pretty much. |

Thanks! I'm not a big halloween person, but it is certainly something a lot of people go nuts about. I'm not a big halloween person either, but my family (especially) my husband goes nuts over it. And my step-daughter-in-law, who was born on Halloween, legally changed her middle name to "Spookie." Still, I am wearing black and orange striped tights, black boots, a short black velvet dress with orange sleeves, and orange jewelry, so I am feeling it a little. Our family (i.e. my husband) is creating a "haunted" house for the town today. I get off work at 2:30, and I'll be down at the lake setting up fog machines, projectors, zombies, a ghost, and a crawling grave ghoul. Oh, and singing pumpkins! It sure beats the mess of carving. |
