In the last thread I managed to post a pic of Gunnar, but for some reason BT now hates all my photos!

My thoughts exactly.

Hal Higdon's a bit more committed, but whichever one they will actually do ... go for it.

I am less trained than you for our upcoming races. By far.

I had a similar experience in 2010. It is one of the reasons I really appreciate the multi-mentor team approach that has grown here.

I think that it's realistic.  Both are good goals.

I agree with Janyne on this, although I think it is important for you to be honest with yourself on training time and expectations. You have 26+ weeks which is good. But how much of that can you commit? My question stems from my own experience. I know in March I will have a low training week due to vacation. I know I have a few weekends that are out of the question for long day training. Planning around life is part of the job, and I would say it is one of the more challenging parts. However, if you can build a plan with these types of things in mind, you are going to succeed. Plan your work. Work your plan. Oh yeah, one more thing:

Have Fun!!!

I've had it happen two times. The first was the worst we had a good active group and the mentor dropped out because of work. Four of us got together and kept it alive, then reinvented it a couple of times and now the core group is gone and I am the remaining survivor. Sadly the group dynamic changed and the conversation became less interesting.

Thanks Janyne and Yanti. I think I have some Galloway stuff around somewhere.

Not sure The lack of training is true Yanti. At present I'm struggling to bend over to get runners on my feet cause of my back. Not so much sore anymore just locked up and no flexibility or much range of motion. I have another appointment with Jill the steamroller on Saturday so hopefully that gets it sorted.

Was thinking something like that too. Don't know Galloway's plans, just that he's run/walk. First thought was c25k and see where it builds into, but this is likely much the same thing.

It's like facebook for exercisers. Just go to strava.com and setup an account. Chris can add you to the manatees. Follow us other manatees and you'll see our workouts pop up when we do them. You can link strava to your garmin account so that the workouts are automatically loaded into strava from garmin.

Strava also has some safety/privacy features including having people request to follow you (so not everyone can see your stuff) and hiding some locations (home address/office/school) from maps.  The second feature just blurs it a little bit so people might now my exact street address or whatever.  These might make your parents/coach more comfortable.  I use them because I usually run alone.  I mean, it's right by the police station and I don't feel unsafe or anything but I don't want to invite problems!

For the location hiding, I've heard some will put in a bunch of nearby addresses and block out a much bigger area with the overlapping zones.

I am currently biking 6 -7 days per week and was routinely throwing in a couple of runs through out the week before I messed up my toe. I am getting close to being able to run again but also would like to add in some swimming. I work 10min from a pool but cant really stretch my lunch too long. Can anyone suggest some productive 30 - 40min swim sets?

That's an interesting idea. I wanted to point it out in case Connor's parents/coach were uncomfortable.  The same holds true for the other Manatees, of course :-)

Thank you Chris and Janyne, I am aiming to be runing three times a week and work my way up from 5k currently per run to 10K + over the next two months, bike should be ok as I am working hard on a trainer at the moment whilst waiting for some decent weather to get outside. I will run with the 20 week Olympic distance plan from here and if I struggle with it will just do the sprint distance instead of Olympic as want to enjoy it and not hate having to train.

I'm in Dallas. Where are the other Texans in this thread from? My first 70.3 was in Austin back in November. Some of the hills down there were killers!

I'm in Austin & I also did the 70.3... it wasn't a stellar day for me, but we won't talk about that right now...

I *think* there's also Katy represented, and there was another Manatee in Austin, but I don't know where he went?  Are there other Texas Manatees??  Where in Canada are you from??  I'm from Vancouver & miss it a LOT, but not so much during the wet winter...  :D

Snowed here this morning Monica

I posted this for Monica cause I am in Vancouver you yahoos.

She DID live in Chicago for a few years.

Ha!  I lasted 2 winters in Chicago and that was IT!  No more polar vortex crap for this weather wimp!

At least you have time on your side. One thought that works for me (up to a point) is that more is better. So, start slow, build frequency and volume, rest where necessary and since the objective is finishing, than you should be good. Consistency will be your best friend.

Funny, I liked my Timex, it had a better display and I felt more intuitive button/screen configuration. However, it had file upload issues. Not really issues, it just wasn't simple. It was a pain to upload to Strava/BT. The Garmin syncs up automagically.

Somehow Coco and Dobie are absent as well.  I'll post a pic in my blog for you to grab, unless you'd prefer to have it another place/way.

Edited to add: or maybe not.  TinyPic seems to be possessed.  I uploaded their pic and I get back an image of a Japanese teen leaning against a table...

Snowed some here too, Monica.

Here too

It's cold here too. I actually had to swim inside this morning. Pizzed me off. #texascold

Welcome to the club :/

We Canucks are taking over!!  Justin - where in Texas are you?

I'm such a weather wimp that I've actually suggested to Tony that if we move ANYWHERE from Austin, it'll have to be FL, because I can't handle winter anymore!  Not that I ever could, but now - definite NO to winter.  NO!

Lol - I miss Chicago in the spring/summer/fall, but definitely NOT in the winter!!

Four Seasons of Chicago:
Almost like winter
Winter
Still like winter
Road construction

Although, lately the constructions take place all year round....

Coming off of a tibial stress fracture in 2000, stevebradley made his way into triathlon. Now he has over 60 triathlons completed and is one of the most active mentor groups on BT.

Not only is he a great athlete, he is a great mentor. I have been in his mentor group for the last two rounds and he inspires and encourages our entire group daily.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
