SSMinnow - 2010-01-29 7:20 AM Paul's parents have a timeshare in Kauai so we have been going to see them for the last 12-15 years.  This time around we are hitting Maui for about 5 days before heading over to see them in Kauai for 6 days. I love the beaches in Maui, but I really love the serenity and hiking Kauai affords.  Probably our last year going.  His mom has Parkinsons which is making it harder and harder for her to travel.

Have you been? which Island is your fav?

just for one day back in 95.  so not much help from me.  hit up happychick.

I have a survey question....I'm so use to aches and pains I don't know what's normal anymore.

Do your feet hurt in the morning when you get up? Not a specific painful spot like PF but just a general ache till you take a few steps?

Trying to decide what pains are from running and what is just getting older.

could it relate to the bf running?  maybe its just getting used to it and the aches are really a good thing?

as far as wind v trainer.  yeah the rain would be deciding factor.  and maybe not even this if something good was on the tube.  of course you and i have the luxury of riding outside much more than many on here.... so they may think we're crazy.

Before you roll out of bed reach down and see if your feet are swollen....even just a little bit.  Sometimes when you are training and for some people, just because?!?! they can have some local swelling in the feet and ankles when laying down for an extended period of time.  When you get up your regular/normal circulation kicks in and the swelling can subside.

Just my $.02

Not sure if I can help much cause when you get to my age things start to hurt that you never knew you had before.  Actually I have very few pains to complain about but each of us is different. I did go through a spell when me fet hurt when I got up each morning but that went away and the only things I suffer now is an injury or if I stop training fror any length of time.  I think you had mentioned before that you had been off trainng for a while so it may just be your body getting back into shape.  Like my triceps last week. Gotta use them or they hurt like the blazes when you start again.

I heart Hawaii....

We got married on Oahu, and then did a week cruise through the other islands. Maui was nice, as was the big island(kona,Hilo etc but it rained when we were there)
I would love to go back to Kauai. We did a horseback riding thing on the beach. Nice relaxing island.

And my off day today too!

Since we are playing the pain game:

1. Shoulder into tricep - seem like a dull pain in the shoulder blade area, that shoots down the tricep to the elbow randomly???? nerve???
2. The muscle next to the shin bone on the inside of the leg. Lower shin. I think its a stretching thing though(Sorry suz)

Yep, it takes me about 10 minutes or so to get my feet going in the morning.  Doesn't really hurt on the bottom, but they usually just feel stiff and I have to loosen them up.

Day off for me too!  Oh yea,  i took all last WEEK off, so maybe I will do something.

My favorite is Kauai! Second is Maui, I've been to the Big Island and Oahu too. First time I went was to watch 1982 Ironman in October (there were 2 that year). I have friends that live near Princeville but we usually stay in Poipu since it's always sunny there and then travel up that way. I used to go windsurfing on Maui.

You are so lucky going every year. Have a great time!

Houstonians....  Tell me about the Gateway to the Bay Tri.  I am looking for an oly to hit before the HIM, this is about my only option.  Two weeks beforehand.  Any of you all in for it?  What about the race prod. company - do they do a quality job?  Am I crazy to do an Oly that close to Lonestar?

Hey MG peeps!  I am free from my training class finally and now hope to get caught up on both work and MG posts.  I am about 10 pages behind so it may take most of the weekend!  Hope to become a more active poster next week.  Had a lighter training week but still get some of everything in.  One more run today and then a wrestling tournament (me coaching, not wrestling) Saturday and skiing Sunday.

We had a weird weather week here.  Week started with highs in the mid 50's.  Tomorrow the highs are supposed to be around 12 deg.  Drastic changes!

Have fun, train hard and be safe!

You and me both. Short ride today (it's 40 degrees and not raining, so you bet I'm outside!!), then a 2900-yard swim. Another bike tomorrow. Sunday I rest.

I am about to leave for my 2000 yds. swim. I have a strength routine tonight. A 35 minute easy run tomorrow and a 2:30-2:45 run on Sunday. (Whew, I am tired just thinking about it.)

swbkrun - 2010-01-28 12:02 PM Had a great day w/ my sister up in the hills skiing yesterday.....

I love the "off season.

MMMM just a few more days and hopefully I will be waking up to 6-12 inches of fresh pow in the morning

My wife and I took care of our niece and nephew last night, things went better than expected, and although I was up from about 1am until 4:30, I am pretty rested.

Did my pool swim today, although it was hard to get motivated when it was -2 out still. 2450 yards, plus some flip turn drills again, and then.... I did 2 laps flipping on each turn, need a lot of work on my streamline, but I did it multiple times!!!! in a row!!!!

Getting up the stuff to hop on the bike, I have the feeling I am going to be jello when I am finished:

WU: 10 mins 65-70% + 5 mins (30 95-105% 30 65-70%) + 5 mins 70-75%
MS: 15x30 seconds 110%-120% 30 seconds 65-70%, 15 mins 70-75%
CD: 10 mins 60-70%

We head out of town tonight after changing some plans because my parents are sick (I do not want either of us to catch it before our trip) so a lot of time driving in the car this weekend back to Iowa, back home Sunday to pack and then 2 days of work until my vacation to somewhere warmer.... than it is in Minnesota right now... 30 > 3 Hoping for some good snow, looks like they have some in the extended forecast, lets hope it lasts!

I have a survey question....I'm so use to aches and pains I don't know what's normal anymore.

Do your feet hurt in the morning when you get up? Not a specific painful spot like PF but just a general ache till you take a few steps?

Trying to decide what pains are from running and what is just getting older.

Kelly - have you ever slept in compression socks?  That helps me when I've ramped up the running milage.

Thanks to everyone on the feedback for volunteering.  I never thought about being a finishing chute catcher but that sounds wonderful.  What a motivation for racing the following year.  I told my husband about the pee comments from being a wetsuit stripper and  - well let's just say that particular duty is no longer on the table.  That's something I never thought of.   And I realize coming from me that is surprising Wink  (For the new people I have a bit of a reputation of encouraging people to pee in their wetsuits when it's cold.  I figure everyone does it whether they admit it or not - so why not let new folks in on the tip.

We are suppose to get real snow in NC this weekend.  Almost a foot!!   I know you northerners and Canucks don't think much of that.  Hopefully it'll just be snow and not ice.  If I fall off the boards for a while that means the power lines are broken from the ice storm. Wish me luck.

Trina - how did you survive this winter blast?  It hit you yesterday correct?

Kelly- x2 on sleeping in compression socks. It has made a world of difference to my calves. I did notice my feet were pretty sore in the mornings after bf running also. I think you use a lot of muscles in your feet that you're not used to using, so it takes awhile to adjust. Definitely take it slow, because I got a little over ambitious with the vff's and hurt my foot.  I think it was from coming down wrong on a few rocks while trail running. I'll be more cautious when I ease back into it.

Thanks for the feedback on the pool swim. I'm still on the fence on whether I will do it or not, but if I do I've got some good advice on what to do.

Sounds like everyone is getting some awesome training in! You all ROCK!
