It's hovering around 8F here in Illinois. Our house has those cold pockets as well |

I usually turn on a space heater for an hour or so before I go down. That is just to make it tolerable. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! I got Covid shot #1 today as well and so far I am no smarter and have no better sense of direction, so I don't think the microchip is working! So far no more sore than after a normal swim workout. I'm not quite sure who/what was administering the shots (we were variously told school nurses and a local medical group's staff) but they seemed to be set up for the pediatric crowd. They were giving us cartoon bandaids (I got My Little Pony) and trying to distract us with lollipop flavor choices while jabbing us with needles. Maybe as it was mostly elementary teachers today?! I have not looked at Dum Dum pops in probably 45 years; all I could recall is that I hate pineapple even more than the other flavors. Overall it was not nearly as traumatic (at least so far) as the fact that my phone died a sudden death this morning (apparently the battery got corroded by moisture seeping in on some soggy runs recently) and had to be immediately replaced (since Mom is on call for a vaccine appt. using my mobile number) so I am now several hundred dollars poorer. That hurt worse than the shot! Edited by Hot Runner 2021-02-09 9:19 PM |

11 | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! From my previous running, I worked on turnover speed with a few techniques. Focusing on bike turnover helps because it's moving your legs at the same rate and many bike computers will show your rpm. Try running on the spot too and see what that rate feels like. That takes running speed right out of the equation. There are a number of hillside pathways in my town with steps on them. If it's an option, try going down steps as fast as you can move your feet. Just be careful with that one though. Great - thanks! Very usable advice from both you and Ann-Marie on how to work the turnover speed up. My training watch can show both step pr. min and step length, so I'll start playing with that on my short run-days. I'll be back with an update |

In both cases, it was a matter of weeks before If started to feel more natural. Yes, I was just reviewing some of my early logs and it took some work to get the turnover rate up. I used a lower gear on the bike to allow that rpm. Both my run speed and stride length went way down at first to maintain 180 steps per minute and a reasonable heart rate, sometimes barely more than running on the spot. An interesting side discovery is that running on the spot is no harder on a steep hill than it is on flat ground. The forward motion is much slower but, if you can run on the spot and drift forward, you can "run" up any hill. If you keep doing it, eventually the speed improves even going up steep hills. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! Good luck with getting a notable but not too bad reaction. All I can report from Moderna #1 after 31 hours is a sore arm. About like the flu shot in a normal year (some years have been worse), not nearly as bad as the tetanus jab. So far nothing systemic like fever, chills, headache or fatigue, which several colleagues did have. I managed to swim today but wasn't up to more than easy laps with fins, mainly because my stroke felt off to both sore arm on one side and crick in neck on other side due to weird sleeping position (combo of sore arm and clingy fat cat). |

Most of the people I know who had the Moderna vaccine had little reaction after the 1st shot -besides sore arm and some had a headache. Everyone felt badly to some degree after the 2d. Pfizer people i know have had no reaction after the 2d, but Pfizer uses a dose that is 1/3 of Moderna so you might expect fewer side effects. Conversely, it actually has a higher % of anaphylactic reactions (though both vaccines are very low re those reactions). Janyne how was your reaction re Pfizer. I know you are still blinded. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! Originally posted by amd723 Interesting. My friend just had her 2nd Moderna shot on Monday and was hit pretty hard - 102*F fever, aches, fatigue. Missed two days of work (one planned, one not). My 2nd dose of Pfizer had me feeling nauseous, tired, big headache, body ache, and a few other sundry symptoms. Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! Well, I guess I will put it out there: I will be returning to the Y to swim in the next week or so (heaven help me) because in April I will be training/testing to be a lifeguard!! So it's probably not a good idea to do the skills test not having swum since September. My main motivation is to be able to procure a job at the best pool in the area, water and air quality-wise, to be allowed to swim there when not working. My secondary motivation is to be able to earn a few extra bucks here and there. Not to mention it gets my CPR skills current again, always a good thing to have fresh in the mind. Sore arm after shot #1, lymph node involvement after shot #2. Sore arm = about as bad as the worst flu shot reaction that I have had. In both cases, the shot was given in my left arm and I had not vote in the situation. Maybe a little tired? Hard to say. I didn't miss any workouts or anything. Lymph node = very sore arm pit (felt bruised when I put on deodorant) and progressed down my toward my left breast over several days. I had the shot on a Monday morning, I called them on Thursday because it was getting weird. By Friday, it was like nothing ever happened. Again, I didn't miss any workouts or anything. It was just weird. 5G reception seems to be the same. Let us know how your poking and prodding went! |
