Not far...3 miles and CERTAINLY not fast...run/walk 42 min. but it was the first time out there since JANUARY. DAMN it felt great. Sorry to be MIA for a while....been VERY busy over the last 2 weeks and that has been awesome. Going to start building my base back up for Disney in January. Conngrats to all of our racers and SUPER job by the AG winners we have in the group and the IM folks that REALLY ROCK. Happy Fathers to the wonderful Dad's out there. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great weekend for our MG racers. Congrats on the awesome effort and results for all of you! I am looking forward to reading the race reports. Father's Day was good to me. I got a Garmin Forerunner 305 along with some Underarmor gear. The Garmin is charging up now, Jeff's blog entry on the device printed off, and the software installed. Now to figure out how to use this before my bike ride in the morning. I hope Father's Day was as great for all the other Dads in the MG. :-) |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What an awesome weekend. Me and the wife went to Kings Island yesterday. IT was crazy hot but we got in all the rides (minus 2 for her due to motion sickness). Such a great time. Father's day is awesome and I am having a great time. Several Stella's and a cigar, cooked out for the family. We had corn on the cob and portobello mushrooms grilled out on the grill. The mushrooms I made with gouda, onions and green peppers with a covering of butter and olive oil. I blew the diet this weekend but I had a great time and now as of Monday I am back to being serious. Happy Father's Day to all the father's out there. |

![]() What a great weekend for the MG racers!! Congratulations to everyone! And Steve, welcome back to running!!! Happy Fathers Day to the dads! On the OWS, I have consistently been MUCH slower in the open water than in the pool, and it is really frustrating. I haven't worn a wetsuit yet (got one in time for yesterday, but the water was too warm), so that might help, but I think the bigger problem for me is not being able to get into a rhythm in the crowds. The only OWS I did well in last summer was a small Oly with 5 minutes between waves, so everyone got really spread out and I could just swim my own swim. It still wasn't pool pace, and I agree with Kyla that I probably didn't push the pace as much as I would have in the pool. I also think the walls are important because experienced swimmers maintain or even gain speed from the turns while newer swimmers lose momentum on the turns. I have decent turns, but whenever I see the college swimmers at the pool, they leave me in the dust on the turns. They leave me in the dust between the turns, too, but their turns are remarkably strong and fast. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Steve--I am so happy for you.... how did it feel? Ryan is the man of the weekend! I got an email from him and apparently there was a buoy snafu that caused him a couple of minutes and I believe his words on the hill were "a sufferfest"! Kyla--maybe you want to borrow Ryan's race wheels?!?!? Birdy is fast, but RP is a rocket! Could it be those wheels? Twin-great job getting in the OW and swimming with the class. When is the next one? ![]() The Shain family reunion has offically come to a close for the evening. Had a great time with all of them, but I'm pooped after cooking and cleaning. Legs are still really sore so I'm sitting around in SKINS waiting for them to cooperate...I'm off to Racine for work tomorrow so be good while I'm away! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey gang! Been a quiet weekend, had to catch up on sleep yesterday! Anyway, my race is done - run was less than spectacular, but the swim and bike were great! RR is up. Looks like I have several pages to catch up on... lots of races... lots of results... |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great job getting that PR, Rob!!! Yes, as Suzy mentioned, I finally went to an OWS practice and aside from the temperature being 55 degrees (thank goodness, I didn't know this until afterwards, I don't think I would have gotten in!), but aside from the FREEZING bay, it went really well! I got a new sleeveless wetsuit this week, sort of to encourage myself to use it, but also because I noticed at both of my races this year this squeezing sensation in my chest after about 500-800 yds and a heavy fatigue in my shoulders. I had initially thought it was due to my lack of practice in the wetsuit, but then it dawned on me that I have had to buy a size up in blouses and tops recently. So perhaps the full sleeve was too small for me. So got the sleeveless from Fit2Race, where they ask for more specific measurements. They sent me a size up from what my weight/height put me at on their sizing chart. Anyhow, it fits like a glove! I also got some speed sleeves from QR and thank goodness I had them today, did I mention it was 55F? That is really cold for me. Oceanside was 59-60 and felt actually fine once we started moving. My feet lost complete feeling in my feet and my teeth were chattering whenever we stopped to regroup (which I think they were doing just for me!). At one point, one of the gals asked me if I wanted a picture with Alcatraz in the background. I started to say something and it came out like I was speaking some sort of animal language! She took the picture and they were like, uh, come on, lets swim hard to the next boat, Kim looks really cold! This group was so nice and so encouraging. I was out there for about 55 minutes in 55F water. Yikes! It was a 1.2 mile course, that's what Pedro said! About 2/3 finished, I was sighting the shore and had a brief thought that maybe one day, I could actually do Escape from Alcatraz! And this has always been on my NEVER list. So maybe one day. In the meantime, I will try and get back there, the water world swim peeps are super nice! 55F! that is just crazy. Came home and made dinner for my dad and watched the US Open with him. ![]() |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Finally caught up on the 4 pages since Friday afternoon! Suzy - holy cow! Rough start, but great day after all. I hear you on the cross country run, the trail run on Sat kicked my butt... Tritiny - hope you did well in your race! Funny to find others that we know who do this crazy stuff. Good luck on the move and business dealings! Tony - funny card dude! Save that one! Sam - good to see you skulking about again! Trevor - Way to go man! 8 min improvement is great! Linda - Please give my gratitude to your nephew. Trina - new book eh? Time to post pics! Julia - great job! Ryan - you are stud! Its sad that John has a faster transition than you Steve - great news on the run! Glad to hear you are mending! Rob - Nice PR my man! Way to go! Alright, I think that is all... whew..... I need a beer now... |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For Kim and others that have been recently talking about sleeveless wetsuits. Have you really worked on making sure that you were putting your full-sleeve wetsuit on correctly? I was having the same issue with all my wetsuits until I sat down and watched the video on Desoto on how to put their wetsuit on. Made all the difference in the world. I wasn't really paying attention to how the arms went on. Yeah I pulled it up plenty but the sleeves were actually twisted a bit thus causing more shoulder pull. Big reason is that the full sleeve (if it doesn't tire you out after 300M) will be faster than sleeveless. |

X2 on this...I started pulling the lower half really tight against the crotch and then pulling the arms way up over the shoulders and it helped a ton. No sore arms or shoulders! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Monday gang! Looks like lots of great racing over the weekend. Congrats on all of the PRs, AG places and outstanding efforts. My duathlon went pretty well yesterday. Finished in 1:43:xx. First run leg was at a 7:26 pace, bike was a disappointing 17.5 mph and the second run leg was a 7:55 with negative mile splits which I was happy with. The bike course was described as rolling but it felt like more climbing than descent. I always struggle on the bike on hills but the number of people who passed me yesterday on the climbs was really frustrating. The only saving grace was that I passed many of them on the run. At one point the bike course went over some really uneven railroad tracks and with the jarring, my garmin feel off the wrist strap. I had to go back to get it so that probably cost me 2 minutes. The way I hit it, I am probably lucky I wan't changing a flat! Anyway - great to finally get a multsport race in. Found (confirmed) some things that I need to work on! Looking forward to my first tri on July 10th. Funny story, I was looking at the results posted at the race when I was done. I was something like 59th overall. I thought nothing great but not too bad. Then I look and Jessie something or other finished like 20 seconds ahead of me and finished 3rd in the AG. So I am surprised and thinking wow - I placed forth!! Then I look a little closer, turns out Jessie is a SHE and SHE finished 3rd in my AG for the women. I think I would have had to be 10th or 11th overall to place 4th in my AG for the men. LOL. Will get the RR done when I find the official results. |
