Master![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() mmrocker13 - 2011-01-28 9:35 AM Good omens is one of my all-time favorite books ever. I am re-reading the last few books in The Hollows series, in prep for the new one coming out in a couple weeks. Also reading the latest set in The Walking Dead anthologies. Neil Gaiman is frickin awesome. I can't wait for the next Hollows book. |

The guy is about to cut his arm off. After this, I think I need a more uplifting book. Any ideas? I have that book, but it's called `Rock and a Hard Place' I think. Did they come out with a new version? It drags a bit, I'll admit, but you really should keep reading. The ending is awesome. It's the movie version with James Franco on the cover, so yes, it's Between a Rock and a Hard Place. I got it at the airport with few other enticing options. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am reading all the Fudge books by Judy Bloom to my son, for the second time. That's all the time I have to read. I had never read them before. They are pretty good. |

Also finished Lone Survivor about a failed SEAL Mission in Afganistan. Didn't like the way it was written. |

The Twilight series. I finished the first book this week and picked up the second book from the library last night. My wife is reading them on her Nook. I'm sooo ashamed. |

I was VERY doubtful Brandon S. would do a good job, but i'm surprised to say that i think the last 2 books are among the best 5 in the series. FlyBoy172 - 2011-01-28 12:18 AM Just polished of the latest book in the Wheel of time series. Working on Atlas shrugged now. The "latest" book? Are there going to be more? Please don't tell me George RR Martin is going to keep writing them? He needs to work on his own books. *grumble* ![]() OK, that's good to know. I just want GRRM to go finish his own dang series! I need to know what happens to Tyrion! My boyfriend listens to the WoT series when he runs. Right now he's on something like book 9, and complains about the formulaic writing. I'll let him know there IS a light at the end of the tunnel, and that you think the last couple of books are better. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() mfoutz - 2011-01-28 7:03 AM Just finished: A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson (A re-read. I find Bryson very re-readable - I've read his hilarious A Walk in the Woods twice as well) Reading: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot On Deck: A Game of Thrones (A re-read for the upcoming HBO series) How is Henrietta Lacks so far? That's on my list. I just finished "Let the Great World Spin" by Colum McCann and am starting "Room" by Emma Donoghue. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Reading The Girl Who Played with Fire- the second book in the Dragon Tattoo series. I love it... I think I like it more than the first one (which was tough to get into at first). Looking forward to reading the third one. Also just finished What the Night Knows by Dean Koontz last month. By far his best book in a long time. |

Reading: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot This is one of my two book club books. I haven't started it yet, but I'm looking forward to reading it next weekend when we're in the mountains. On Deck: A Game of Thrones (A re-read for the upcoming HBO series) I love this book. It's so hard to read again, because I know what's coming, and my heart breaks all over again. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just finished 'The Wave" by Susan Casey last night. Cool nonfiction book that alternates between insights from 2 very different groups, although the book shows you how similar they may actually be in some regards. One group is scientists around the world that study ocean waves, wave theory and weather. A special focus is on how rogue waves and extreme ocean conditions affect the worldwide shipping industry. The second group is the elite tribe of big wave surfers...Laird Hamilton and his crew, a very small group that the author claims is about 50 people worldwide who are truly qualified and experienced and fit enough to tow into 70 foot waves. All in all a very fascinating look at a subject that very little is actually known about...the ocean and it's movements. One of my biggest takeaways was how many huge ships sink on a regular basis but never get publicized. |

I just got done with Two girls, fat and thin by Mary Gaitskill, philosophical, purient, well-written, and very insightful into character and circumstance. It's a remarkable book.
I read that so long ago, I can't tell you anything about it now. But I remember it being very good. Maybe I should suggest it for a future book club book. |

I think I liked his other books better, but this is interesting enough. I like the ways he uses enough research to make the point, but not too much to get boring. Doesn't exactly give you a full view, but it is entertaining. |

I really liked the fourth book and hope I am still alive when the movie finally comes out. Okay, the first part will be out in November but who knows when they will finish it. I hate that! At least you have plenty of time to catch up. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am "reading" (audiobook) Little Bird of Heaven by Joyce Carol Oates. I am on an Oates kick since she's coming to do a session at the public library in March. I am a long time fan. Before that I "read" another by her, A Fair Maiden. She has a loooong list of books, so I should be busy for a while. I also "read" Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde. SO clever! He's also coming to the library in March, it's a good month. I have The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which I bought in October, but haven't picked it up yet. I rarely read books anymore in print, it takes me a long time 3 pages at a time before bed. I also have a new Nook, so any "real" reading will probably be there for a while. I finally requested the Epub format from the library for all 3 Larsson books so I can download them, but I don't know when they will be available. |

It became a chore to read the books. The whole "what happened before will happen again" theme was played out way too much in my opinion. I saw that Stephen R. Donaldson came out with some more books in the Thomas Covenant series, so I might give those a look. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Life - Keith Richards and James Fox. Fascinating life story, well written (in my opinion) and brutally honest. Some great witty lines in there - for instance talking about drugs "I never overdid it. Well I shouldn't say never. Sometimes I was f****ng comatose." Edited by mjr66 2011-01-28 12:06 PM |
