my first concert I think was in 1976,Bad Company and Cheap Trick.

Best concert by far, GnR I believe in 90 or 91. We were on the floor maybe 6-8 rows back...dead center!  Axl was on his game and I have never seen so much energy at a concert and I have been to many.

First - I saw Elvis in Vegas in 1975, I was 8 years old.  We were there for a wedding and I got to go.  Zero appreciation for the fat guy on stage.  Sad looking back on it.

Best - toss up between Oingo Boingo's Halloween show 1987 or Berlin in 1984.  Berlin was front row and I kissed Terri Nunn.  I'm 6'4", she's 5 foot nuthin' and smokin' hawt!!! I'm still smitten by her. Cool

First: mom dragged me to Whitney Houston.  I wasn't thrilled.

Fave: Too hard to choose just one:

-Violent Femmes in the 90's, surprisingly good

-Rob Zombie last year, an amazing show if you're into old B horror movies.  Very theatrical.

-Can't beat the experience of killing it in the pit at Ministry.  Yep, I'm a small female but TRY me.

First music I ever purchased with my "own" money (80s). My mom heard it, confiscated it and destroyed it.  Consequently, it was also the second music purchase I ever made with my own money;)

I would have loved to see them in concert.

ETA: Pit at a Cypress Hill concert in DC is probably the most fun and most sacred I have ever been in my life.

First concert: Iron Maiden and Anthrax, 1991.  Front row seats.... talk about getting spoiled at my first show!

Favorite concert? That is tough.  I may have to split it with the Black Sabbath reunion tour in 1999 and the experience of travelling/touring with the Young Dubliners for 10 days in Ireland.

I think we may have a winner here.  That would be a great time and thing to do.

It was quite the experience and I hope to do it again.  It's a "planned" vacation organized by a travel agency that specializes in "band trips".  The trip I went on included three concerts and a private acoustic show for the tour group in a cozy bar.  They try to do the Ireland tour about once every 18 months, I just need to save up the money again (new bike or Ireland trip, hard choices!).

First time I saw Ministry was with Helmet and Sepultura in '93.  They played in a parking garage and it was basically a giant pit with small pits all over the place as well.

First concert was Kiss in 1981

Favorite concert was one of the numerous Jimmy Buffett shows that I've been to.  This particular one IIRC was in 2000...

On Friday afternoon I cut the roof off of an old Mercedes to make it into a pirate ship.  I assembled a mast to mount between the front seats and rigged up the sail.  Later that night we had a party with about 200 people and a local band playing everyone decorated the pirate's ship and we had a rather good time.  Saturday morning we loaded up the pirate ship, complete with one left over keg of beer and headed to the show.  Needless to say we were the life of the parking lot party.

Ahhh... good times.

You can. They have reunited and are headlining here next month as part of our Summerfest, the world's largest music festival.
Milwaukee is their hometown.

JEALOUS!

I also saw The Who with Keith Moon as the drummer. In the '80s REO Speedwagon, Moody Blues, and Yes were my favorites as well. A girlfriend dragged me to Ratt one year and that was the end of my concert going ever since.

Damn, I was born in the wrong decade. Led Zep, Old Rush, Old Van Halen, and The Who--dude, you're kinda killing me.

And this all begs the question, how could you have dated a girl who like Ratt?

She was worth it for a few times going out. Not many, but a few.

Growing up I was kinda dragged to more than a few concerts. Hell, I took Dad to the Van Halen concert. My sister was supposed to go but she ended up with a date that night so I took Dad. Somewhere near the middle of the concert I heard "Who's the old guy" and my sister and her date were two up from us. Guy got drunk and kicked Dad in the ear right before the end. Sister whispers to dad, "Would you mind giving me a ride home?"

Was one of the more awkward and really funny evenings I've ever had.

Then there was the Beach Boys concert went to with Dad and Mom. Someone passed a joint to Dad. He looked at it, frowned and handed it on. I'm not sure but I believe I was 8? 9? Was funny as hell, Dad the deacon

First concert? INXS opening for the Go-Go's at Summerfest in 1983. It was also among my favorites. The festival is outdoors and it had been raining all day long with extremely dark and threatening skies. It was doubtful the show would even go on as scheduled. Then just around the time the show was supposed to start, the clouds broke and a huge rainbow appeared directly behind the stage. It was magical. INXS was one also one of the greatest live acts in their day. They always gave it 100%.

As for favorites, I have a few:

Danzig in Madison in 1991. The original line up of Danzig were all incredibly talented musicians. I was jammed right up against the stage with a mosh pit roiling right behind me and the energy was just incredible. At one point, I have my hand up and Glenn Danzig came stomping over and accidentally flails his head right into my hand. After the show, I found some of his hair still tangled up in my ring. Later, SPIN magazine featured a huge photo taken at the show and I could make out my hand right next to Danzig's head right before the tangling incident.

My other favorite was just last Fall, when I got to see my all-time favorite music artist, LLoyd Cole perform an acoustic solo performance at the City Winery in Chicago. The show was great, then afterward I had the chance to have drinks with him for over an hour and just talk music and life. Then my wife and I even got to give him a lift back to his hotel. Can't beat that.

Hmmmm, as a major concert venue the first concert would have been Iron Maiden opening for Judas Priest in 1983 with the "Number of the Beast" and "Screaming for Vengeance" tour.  Too, too good.

The best/Favorite?  I can't decide, really, since it reflects on sound quality, stage show, theatrics, song selection, etc. etc.  If I HAD to choose the "best" one that I've seen then it would have been Pink Floyd (sans Roger Waters) at Camp Randall in Madison, WI in 1988 for the "Momentary Lapse of Reason" tour.  I can not choose my "favorite" - there's no way.

I saw Zepplin in the Kingdome in Seattle in July 1977 and has to be at or near the top of the list.  I was a sophomore in high school and my mom drove me to Seattle to get tickets when they went on sale.  Bless her.

First was Average White Band in a high school gym in Arizona when I was in about eighth grade.  Went with my big sister.  Hmm, may have been about the first time I got high too.Cool

First - Boston in '78 with Sammy Hagar opening. I was young, so very young.

Favorite - I've had several transcendent experiences at shows where I was so into it, I felt like I was having an out-of-body experience: REM 9/84, Guided by Voices, the Who in '79, Fleshtones and a few others I don't remember. But for some reason, a show by a band I've never really cared for before or since takes the prize: Red Hot Chili Peppers in June '87 with the original lineup w/Fishbone and Thelonious Monster opening. It was RHCP's last club tour and the place was broiling hot and packed-in tight, and the pit...Oy, the pit...well, what a night. Combination of conditions that lent themselves to a show I could call 'favorite'.

Honorable Mention: A little more recently, I saw Ty Segall Band - nouveau garage and works the same turf as the OC's, White Fence and Jay Reatard - in January and had the time of my middle-aged life.
