Because its always a HUGE PITA takes twice as long as advertised and costs twice as much thats why. HUGE PITA is entirely too much of an understatement for the last week of adventures. But - it's *almost* done. Almost being contingent on when the contractor company will get and install a new sink for us. Other than that - it looks fantastic and I'm REALLY happy to have a shower that doesn't give me the heebie jeebies anymore. It also cost us about $400 more than they quoted for labour, but I'm ok with that - we asked the guy to do some extra stuff and he did a great job. |

Bathrooms are FUN, especially when they are your only one! Two people at home during the day (one being sick) during the deconstruction phase with two cats the one and one bathroom being ripped apart is no fun. Yay for our friend who lives in our building and left us the keys to her place so we could use her bathroom. |

Dangit - I have no interesting horse facts, but I think I remember seeing somewhere that the hoof is also like a fingernail in that it continuously grows and needs to be trimmed? Or am I delusional? oMG yes. Horses have to be trimmed every 8 weeks and in the summer when the hooves grow faster 4-6. Add shoes and we're looking at $250 a pop. My horse gets more shoes and manicures than I do. |

Master 8250 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: TAN #203: TANese New Year - Horsing Around Don't have any horse facts handy (will have to wait for Year of the Cat) but "chuc mung nam moi" (Happy New Year) from Vietnam! Spent most of the day cleaning the house--It's Chinese and Vietnamese tradition that you can't sweep or throw stuff out on the first days of New Years since it's really bad luck, so you have to get it done before! I think I should log all that scrubbing as strength training! It's been several years since I've stayed in country for Tet and can't remember how rowdy it gets at midnight--fireworks are banned but they were in China too and that never stopped anyone. But the neighborhood looks/feels empty--think most have gone home to somewhere else. Hoping to celebrate with some time in the (bike) saddle tomorrow! |

Anyone in Atlanta? I'm in Atlanta. I have been in town since Monday. I did not have any need to get out in the ice but Janicewhokeepsmehumble drove from Tennessee to Atlanta yesterday. That was 24 hours after the snow stopped. It took 6.5 hours for what is normally a 2 hr drive. (She was coming down to join me to go to the Georgia Tech basketball game.) Apparently, the state of Georgia did not see the need to put salt on the interstate. The roads from Cartersville north to Tennessee were clear. It was an icy parking lot from Cartersville to Atlanta. She arrived without any car damage but missed the game. The only casualty was that the dog peed in her car seat. I am wondering about the wisdom of the state's decisions on keeping the roads passable. They have taken the "let Mother Nature clear the snow" approach. In relative dollars to taxpayers for salt and plowing versus car repairs, lost revenue to businesses and individuals, and other snow related expenses, we probably lost out. Plus, we look incompetent to the rest of the country if we can't handle 2" of snow. TW

Does anyone have a suggestion for budgeting, expense tracking spreadsheet? DW started a home business last fall and did not track the cash flow and expenses. This years taxes are going to be a PITA with sorting it out. Anyone have experience with Mint as a home finance tool? |

I ran labor numbers by the president of the company to show we were not making money on his huge project. He quoted the job without asking anyone about costs or labor or machine times. His response - F'n fix it!! Then later says work faster. The machines can't run any faster or they don't do their jobs. ARGGGGHHH!!!!!! |
