Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! Originally posted by JBacarella Well his message makes me feel pretty secure that IMOK will go in May. I looked at their restrictions, if you want to call them that and they are nothing compared to what I am used to. We rented an air B&B, so we can make our own food. Michelle and Sophia have been vaccinated. Hopefully I will be by then. The air b&b is a smart move! I hope your race is a go and you are vaccinated. Florida has lots of racing going on bc We have no state restrictions and local governments are extremely limited in what they are allowed to do, so I’m sure Florida 70.3 will be a go as will Challenge Miami. Many marathons and other running events have been happening for months too. im Not comfortable being in crowds, so have not participated in any of them, though I know the races aren’t allowing post race gatherings, awards etc, so the risk is fairly low. |

I was so NOT shocked when Challenge Daytona happened last December because it's Florida. I really want to do the race this December but I'm going to wait until I see how it is later this year. |

We did that for IMFL and it turned out to be a great move. None of the hotel options in Tulsa are great. Plus this house is on the run course and I pass it 4 times. It will make it convenient for my family to sit in lawn chairs and throw beer cans at me when I run by haha. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! I didn't even listen to the IM message because I've stopped believing any IM event is going to happen, at least in a manner /place I'd feel comfortable with. At this point my only semi-viable IM event is Washington 70.3 (which is/was a first-year event anyway) in September, and I'm not holding my breath. Beyond maintaining base fitness and the ability to bike 2-2:30 and run at least 1:30, I'm not going to even THINK about training for it until May or June. Our restrictions are way stricter here than most other states--I don't think we've had an actual in-person race at all for almost a year now. (Not many events in Oregon winter anyway! It would be a very wet proposition or, further north, an icy one.) Call me a pessimist but too much has to go right for this one.... I do have some hopes that Crater Lake Marathon could be a go if things continue to improve, and/or maybe a couple of modestly-sized local events that wouldn't require travel. I guess we've been lucky with weather. It looks absolutely horrific everywhere, starting with devastating ice storms just 40-50 miles north of us, but here it has been just endless rain, blustery wind, and gray yuck. We had maybe ten minutes of hail Friday night; that was it. Actually cannot remember the last time I saw sunshine for more than a few minutes of a brief break in the clouds. At least two weeks??? About to sign up for the hibernation plan and join the groundhog for six weeks. Anyway, we are lucky we have power and don't have to shovel anything! |

Sorry for all the gray and rain you've been having! So much of the country has/is having terrible weather that I feel badly complaining that we've been so hot the last week! Your big storm is our little front bringing a break in the heat. |

Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! Days 3 and 4 done. Day three is one of my Favorites "Fight Club." I think I figured out why I like this workout. It has a nice mix of time trial with low cadence grinding plus a lot of sprints in between. I get to spend time in aero position, then sit up and in between I stand on the sprints, so my bottom gets a rest. Day 4 has Half is Easy and GOAT. I hate Half is Easy. It's a sprinting workout and I am not a sprinter. it has 2 sets of 20, 15 second sprints and 15 second rest periods. I can't figure out if the easy half is the half I'm destroying my legs going as fast as I can or the 15 seconds I'm gasping for air in between. GOAT is a grinding low cadence endurance workout. My front detailer broke when I dropped the chain before the intervals on Half is Easy. I had to be careful going from large gear to low, because I lost the chain guard on the detailer. I'm going to have to replace it before I give the bike to D#2. |

I don’t mind those types of sprints per se, but 2 sets of 20 gets to me. Thank goodness I’m doing all of these at reduced intensity! You are amazing going nuclear. Sorry about the broken bike, but I guess that just shows how bad you are! Next up, Norway. I’m intrigued by the description! |

It strikes a nostalgic nerve. I'm surprised the Sufferfest hasn't used Strike First! Strike Hard!, No Mercy! I'm pretty sure the broken detailer has more to do with the same talent that caused me to crash on the trainer and bruise my ribs last year than the power I generate. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! OMG after seeing the weather this week, I don't think I'll complain about Oregon weather for a long time! We actually had a little sunshine today; supposed to rain for the next ten days. I have been monitoring the pharmacy websites for the past several days and managed to score Mom a vaccine appt. today. Guessing it was a last-minute cancellation as there was only one slot, at one store, two hours from the time I checked. So we are now both started on the shots. 8 days apart, which sounds like a good interval in case we get sick after jab #2. And in other news, our pool is now down to 8 slots/month. It's steadily declined from 12 to 10 and now 8, if you can get them Ugh. You can also swim "standby"--have to wait for an extra 10-15 minutes, pay the same, and maybe get 45 minutes of swim time for your efforts if you're lucky. Edited by Hot Runner 2021-02-17 11:21 PM |

However, the pool sucks - i am with you. Ours are still completely closed and have been since i can't remember when ... gyms too. So glad to have my own set up but would actually really like to swim. I am appreciative of a cautious government but it feels a little ridiculous at times. They even closed ski hills at Christmas and they finally re-opened this week. I think we were the only place in North America to do so. Anyway ... this is pandemic life. |
