Master 1952 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN- Miles and Miles ahead!!!! CLOSED kt65 - 2010-03-27 6:43 PM Well, you guys sure do make me feel like a rockstar! Wow. Linda, I sure do wish it had been 38:xx!!! I'm not sure what happened there other than I am still just a nervous swimmer...that was slightly discouraging to come up with a 52 minute swim, but I was happy to get it done without resorting to the backstroke or breaststroke...once again the wave behind caught up and made me freak out. Water was 59F, so not too bad, probably should practice OWS before my first race of the season! The bike however was just amazing...I was literally flying along (keeping HR in zone 3 so as not to blow up on the run)--that's for you, birdy!--yeah, I was following that little discussion but didn't want to get involved The monster hills were as advertised, but I was able to stay in the saddle and keep a straight line...lucky to live in SF where the hills are probably worse...funny no one passed me on any of those hills! They sure did pass me on the flats, though, whirrrr, whirrr, whirrr was all I heard when those men went by me My run was actually not bad even though it was alot slower than my standalone, but I was able to keep the effort really strong even when I started getting emotional at the turnaround point (2 lap course). I saw Kathy hollering and she started filming me...I started to think how lucky I am that we are both healthy and I was thinking of Cora...and how much fun she had when she would do races...she was a solid BOP'er who always matched her outfits...it made me determined to keep the effort strong...and I thought of John at mile 11 as usual...I thought of all of you guys probably tracking me and figured I scared the bejesus out of you with a 52 min swim and a 6 min transition...what's up with that!!! I was emotional in transition and couldn't freaking think straight...well, T2 was slow because I had an Austin Powers just unfrozen sort of potty visit...NO, I could not pee on the bike as usual...I guess I'll have to get some pointers from Tracy and Kyla I'm exhausted, mentally and physically and got 3 hours of sleep last night and the same the night before that...so it's off for some delicious and hopefully bad for me food and drink and I pray that I can sleep a straight 8 hours! Thanks to ALL of you for your inspires and support, my goodness, I am just so floored...I definitely felt the love Kim Spell that !!!! SUPERSTAR !!!!!!!!! Edited by Redknight 2010-03-28 8:16 PM |

Master 2501 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN- Miles and Miles ahead!!!! CLOSED For those interested, it sounds like the guy from my race (turns out his name is KENT) is continuing to recover well. I keep checking updates on that town's local paper. "The Lottis family has been able to identify two of the four Good Samaritans who helped Kent Lottis, who collapsed with a heart attack at the end of the Rotary Run half marathon on March 21. Lottis, a Bellevue resident, is currently recovering with success from the emergency." Full story here. Turns out it was a heart attack. Ick. |

Tony, Sam, Tobey? Doug DEFINITELY. thanks. And I stopped by the expo, but had all three kids on my own (one in a backpack and one holding each hand), so I did not get to stay and listen to the seminars or browse as long as I would have liked. It definitely looked interesting and informative. -William Edited by Tobey91 2010-03-29 7:29 AM |

Elite 3072 san francisco | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN- Miles and Miles ahead!!!! CLOSED Hi guys, Got home after our 470 mile drive at about 4pm yesterday. Wore my calf compression sleeves and my legs didn't feel too stiff! Did a short spin on my bike yesterday to flush the toxins from my legs and I feel pretty normal today. Amazingly normal...I remember that I felt that way after Vineman, too. Am so glad we had good weather on race day! Came out of the room at about 7am yesterday morning and it was 44 degrees and super windy! It warmed up pretty fast but that wind! After reading some race reports from the day, it seems that we had a fair amount of wind. I felt like there was some but I didn't realize that they were that bad. If we had to race on Sunday, those winds would have been brutal. Off to write my RR, anyone heard from Sarge? Wasn't his half marathon this weekend? have a wonderful day everyone kim |

Extreme Veteran 689 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN- Miles and Miles ahead!!!! CLOSED With some talking and complaining to the NYRR on Sat, they let me race in the Colon Cancer Challenge yesterday. I'm trying to make it a yearly thing and this year I didn't want their computer error making it any different. The 4 mile race went ok, I had an outside goal of 7:30/mile (30min) and knew that everything had to go perfectly to reach it. Unfortunately the congestion in the beginning and hills kicked my a$$ yet again. I finished at 7:45/mile (31min flat), I was still fairly happy with the time since last yr I averaged 8:36/mile. It was great to race again. I have to say, I miss that feeling, especially right before the race starts.. |

Do you think the work you have been doing on changing your running gait had anything to do with it? Extreme Veteran 689 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN- Miles and Miles ahead!!!! CLOSED Thanks everyone. I know the hills in Central Park are probably like mole hills compared to most other places but they're still hills!! I think changing my running gait has had something to do with it.. For the past 3-4 months I haven't had any knee pain nor have I worn my knee brace. I feel much more comfortable when I run and I think that has contributed to the improvement. I do find though that when I get tired I sometimes revert back to my old running style and I need to make a conscious effort to go back to the new running style.. I do have to incorporate hill work and run outdoors more. I think when I move closer to the park and as the weather improves, it will help with the training. I've been reading about hill workouts and just need to incorporate one into my workouts. If you or anyone else have any suggestions please forward them on. My race report Colon Cancer Challenge. Expert 1027 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN- Miles and Miles ahead!!!! CLOSED Wow today has been 200 MPH day long for me. I woke up before my alarm this morning, felt rested and ready especially for a Monday, then got to work and the day fell apart. We had issue after issue and chaos for the majority of the morning. I am now exhausted and ready for a nap, only to look at my schedule to find out I have a 20 min TT tonight... I hope I can use some of the tension from today to push the ride tonight, the other day I felt real strong on the bike, but will see how it goes. The good sides are that i may try to do a quick 5k following the ride and push tempo to see how it will feel and make sure that my legs have it in them to get an idea of pace to expect in another month. Then hopefully tonight is relaxing and reading some race reports from the weekenders. |
