Dunno what I weigh.  Measurements coming Sunday.

What I do know is that I can CONSISTENTLY turn anywhere from 30 to 34 minutes on a 5K and about 1 hour on a 10K.  I realize that's not going to set any land speed records, but here's how I feel:

Great work SpeedKnight!

Eating decently, working out for first times in years and gained a lb. Oh well...still not logging my food...

Still not wanting to workout but went to the gym yesterday and ran two miles at 12min/mile (with two breaks totaling 1.5 mins).
Not great, but really first run in years.
When the sweat is pouring, and the pain is coming - that's when I don't want to quit. Think my love if this is coming back.

Four weeks till my training program begins - want to be able to complete the workouts when it begins. It says run for 30 mins - I'll be able to run for 30 mins!

I am stuck at 243lbs again this week but at the beginning of Febuary my waist (at belly button ) was 44"! As of tihs morning it is at 42 1/2". I will take that but would love to see the pounds start to drop soon as well.

baby steps towards the goal

NEVER sweat your weight.  Your waist is going in the right direction; that's for more beneficial.

X2...my husband is always telling me to judge how I look in my skinny jeans or how I fit in my favorite dress, and not just focus on the number, but I hear ya, sometimes you like the objective number on the scale. Still, I'd be THRILLED to have a smaller waist, good for you!

Lots of success here, congrats everyone.

Sadly, after the stress of seeing family and the trip for my grandma's funeral, all the family dinners and lunches and eating on the road...then coming home and getting a chest cold and not working out in 7 days....eek. It all added up. Gained a pound and weighed in at 126 lbs today.

I'm trying not to bum about it and doing ok. I know I had a bad week, plus I've been eating salty things and soups because it makes my throat feel better. I should probably be gargling with hot salt water instead of downing salty soups hahahaha. On the tail end of things, should be good to start exercising in another day or two. (Still in the chest, not above the neck.)

Good work everyone!!

Thanks guys I was surprised at the waist measurement! GreenMtnLabbit sorry to read about your loss, take the time with the family once your ready the pound or few pounds you have added will drop off quickly. Chances are you will come back stronger then you where before Grandmother passed.

I weighed in today.  The scale said 226, which puts me 1lb above goal.

Still, I'm calling today a DNF.  :-(

I had planned on doing an Olympic distance brick.  I did some pre workout yoga to get limber, then hit the stationary bike with a vengence.

I always set the bike's program to "random" so that it mimics riding hills as well as flats.  Today was no different, and I managed to demolish 25 miles in just 1:02:09 for a new PR.

Because it was pretty friggin' cold out this morning, and I wasn't feeling up to dealing with the cold, I decided to do the run on the dreadmill.  Sadly, at about the 2.8 mile point, I felt like I was on borrowed time.  I simply had to shut the damned machine off at the 3.27 mile point.  I didn't even PR a 5K during that run, with 3.27 coming in 33:02.  Between letting it all go on the bike and the fact that dreadmills seem to sap energy out of me, I just had no gas.

Ultimately, I learned that I can blast out 25 miles at 24+MPH, but perhaps I shouldn't.  I'll just have to keep doing bricks as often as I can to get to a point where I can do a 1hr/1hr brick.

Lots of good stuff going on here, wt losses, pr's, learning what works and doesn't for training.

GREAT job everyone.

I was down 2 pounds last week, but over the weekend I had a diet failure and am up one now. Back on track and ready to get going. My training plan has started and I am going to be healthy and get all the training in. (knocking on wood on the healthy part).

Hey downers had a great weekend myself.  Very productive from a training standpoint anyway.  Saturday morning I woke up and rolled out on a 7.1 mile run.  I'd look down at my Garmin and be pacing an 8:5? mile.  Thinking I was burning out too fast I would try and back off, I was hoping to average 9:15 over 7 miles.  So the slow down would work for a bit and then I'd look back down and *BAM* be running 8:4?.   I fought my pace the whole way trying to keep my fresh legs from burning themselves out over the course.  Long story short I finished up 7.1 miles at an 8:53/mile pace average.  Which for me is moving pretty good.

Then in the afternoon I hit the Y and did some swimming.  I took a Total Immersion workshop last weekend and it has really helped me change my attitude and the way that I swim.  Ended up doing 1300 meters in all with quite a few 100 repeats and even some 200 repeats which is huge for me.  Still not any faster than before, but much less winded and worn out when I finish.

Yesterday afternoon I hopped on the bike and took off.  On the way out I took a great back country route and felt awesome.  I knew I had a bit of a tail wind, I just didn't know how much until I hit mile 10 and looked to turn back towards my home.  WOW!  That wind hit me like a brick wall.  Where I was averaging 22 mph on my way out with little effort I was burning my legs to maintain 14 or 15 mph into that wind.  I audibly cursed quite a few times as a steady 20 mph headwind was kicking my butt and sometimes tossing my bike around.  But I just kept telling myself that it could very well be like this during a race so I needed to learn to deal with it.  I continued on going with the wind sometimes and fighting it most of the time on the way back and ended up clocking a respectable 17.82 mph over 32 miles.  I always go out hoping to average 18.7 mph because that is a 3 hour HIM bike time or 6 hour IM time.  But sometimes it just doesn't work out like that.

Anyway I am enjoying a hard earned rest day today.  Hope everyone has a great one.

Great training! Way to HTFU with the wind, too.

FWIW, I took the TI workshop as well and immediately noticed a difference. Like you, I am no faster but I can swim a mile with no problem. Before, 700 yds winded me.

Monday morning weigh in: 194lb.  Down 5 for the week!

However...  I was destroyed by the flu over the weekend, so I think it's a artificially low weigh in since I really didn't eat any food yesterday.  Feeling like crap today, gonna take a few days at least off training and get well.

Friday kicked off a busy weekend for me so I didn't get here to post at weigh in time. I'm down 1# for the week which, for me, is awesome since I have been struggling for so long. So excited to read all of the good things going on for everyone! I also had a 10k PR on Saturday at 56:53.

I'm back up to within a pound of where I started Jan. 1 - really frustrating. 3 weeks of Paleo and I basically gain 5 pounds.

Bumping up the start of my IM training so I can get to burning more calories.

That is what happened to me on Paleo. 7 pounds gained over ~6 months, increase of 4% body fat, LDL nearly doubled... it was so frustrating. I know some people really do well on Paleo, but I wasn't one of them. I went back to my clean diet of more veggies, moderate meat and less fat.

I should say feel better, but the first thought I had was that quote from "The Devil Wears Prada"...

I'm just one stomach flu away from my goal weight.

OK, now I can say feel better.

Ha, yes I thought of that quote as I posted this as well...  I am curious to see what happens though.  In the past I could guarantee the weight would come right back on as soon as I got better since I would eat the whole house down.  This time I plan to continue with the ~1200cal/day and see if it comes back up or stays off.

I was down 5-6lbs around 2 weeks ago, just one week after starting Paleo. Then it slowly crept back in. The Paleo lifestyle doesn't promote limiting portions or counting anything (calories, carbs, protein, etc.). But I have a hard time believing that's the best course of action, for me anyway. So - going to work on eating the same stuff as I'm committed to an 8-week food challenge, but limiting the portions.

I do feel better without dairy.

I am definately very wary of this when eating paleo.  They claim when eating paleo you don't need to worry about logging your diet, but I don't buy that for a second.  Although it is a lot harder to log.  My fitnesspal doesn't have cauliflour rice in its logs anywhere, or a lot of other paleo fare.  So I estimate the best I can and watch my portions.

I still counted my calories because I just didn't buy into that. I stayed in my appropriate range. I lost 5 pounds the first 3 weeks then zero for a few weeks then it started creeping back to leave me with a net gain of 7. The initial loss is due to less carbs. Reduce the grams of carbs consumed and as you deplete what is stored you are also losing 3 grams of water with every gram of carb. I knew that but I was still believing in the magic of Paleo. Until I started gaining. Then I convinced myself that it was just my body getting used to fueling differently. But you know, after 7#, a few months of low energy and lagging performance... I became very clear that it wasn't for me. I never did get that "I feel so much better" epiphany. But I'm sure that's because I already had been free of processed foods for over two years. I really think that is the "magic" for the zealots. Go from a processed and fast food diet to Paleo and BAM you feel a million times better. That's exactly how I felt within two weeks of eliminating junk from my diet. As for removing dairy and/or grains from your diets -there are so many people that have food sensitivities and don't even know it. That definitely makes a difference to eliminate it. I know I have a minor sensitivity to wheat so I rarely eat it. Other grains don't bother me. I would be so sad if I couldn't have dairy!

Gonna try to sneak back in here with my tail between my legs and get my act together AGAIN Frown.

Had the perfect remedy for this crummy Michigan winter by doing an Iron Distance down in Key West in January (highly recommend Bone Island Tri to everyone) but the down side to it was got back home and lacked motivation to keep it going. As a result of not working out, working way too much, and eating crap I woke up with an additional 15 pounds. Who knew Undecided

So here we are, back again to continue to fight the battle and get back at it. Giving myself til June to drop back under 200. Got one maybe two HIMs, a stand alone marathon and another Iron Distance at the end of the summer so its now or never.

Good to see you all again. Cool

Poor planning + poor weather = a really bad travel day yesterday...I pretty much lived on airline chips and those nasty little boxes you can buy with salami, crackers, and cheese in them. For 12 hours. (And a couple beers, but those were well earned by the travel-drama I put up with.)

For just a little taste of my travel fun...I got off a plane that landed at 5:13p and made it onto a plane that pulled away from the gates at 5:21 - as they slammed the doors shut behind me. What was supposed to be a 3 hour layover ended up being less than 10 minutes. Good thing I've been training to run fast.

Guess this is where the monthly thread peeps went?

ChrisM here, before tris I was 270, worked my way down to 240 or so, then met scubapunk and came here.  raced tris anywhere from 225 (IM) to 240.  In 2011 got fed up and went from 240 to 205.  Went up a bit again, and decided to get really serious and start counting calories (i.e., being accoutnable).  Since October down from 210 to 189 this morning

Goal was to end 2012 as a non clyde (met), and now to race Oceanside 70.3 on March 30 at 185 and Wildflower on 5/4. Doing IM Canada in August, maybe stay at 185, or...?

Problem is a week in Cozumel after wildflower...   need to not go crazy
