Better now that I'm progressing with the whole "return to run" thing. It's not the way that I intended to start the year but it'll be fine
Run without hurting myself
I'm using a coach
I may do an HIM in May if things continue to progress. Then I have Lake Logan HIM in August, White Lake international distance in September and IM Chattanooga in September. I started training, but due to spasms and hip pain I have been referred to pt. My apt is in 3 days, not 2 months like I thought that it would be. Had to leave my house due to domestic violence issues and safety concerns. I don't really have anywhere else that's safe for me to talk about this. I know in the tri community there is so much more to all of our lives right now. I don't want this set back to affect my training or my dream of becoming an IronMan. It is my own goal and dream and I don't want to lose sight of those things. when I saw my M-dot sling bag with my things, I knew that I was a strong person and seeing that reminded me that I can overcome this too. Positive thoughts and prayers are welcome. Edited by kbhanson3 2018-02-06 5:49 AM |

1) My preparations are less than desired. I had big plans but am slow starting. I really hate cold weather, but that is no excuse, I know. 2) I think I am still at a point that I can catch up on my training plans. I have a half marathon in late April that I'm shooting for as my goal for spring. Once it warms up a little, I think (hope) I will be more motivated. 3) I kind of have a coach, but not really. I'm on a team that's led by a coach and he writes training plans for the team's A races (one of which I'm doing), but for now, I'm sort of doing my own thing 4) My schedule is actually set - it's the one thing I'm ahead of the game on I wanted to do one of my team's A race (IM Maine 70.3) and am doing a couple other team races spring and summer. I also decided to do the Alcatraz relay (swim and run.. I had no desire to do that bike). I registered for the spring half marathon and a couple training races leading up to that. The budget won't allow for any more |

Angela, I am so sorry to hear this but so glad to that you were able to leave. I hope that you are in a safe place. Thinking of you. x2. Glad you are safe. Angela, the fact that you have left says volumes about your strength. Triathlon will always be there; keeping yourself safe is most important right now. Thank you for sharing; we are always here for you. That's one of the things I love about this group; no matter what is going on, you will find support. Positive thoughts and strength being sent. This. You were very wise and strong to do what is best for you and your safety. The support of this group is beyond compare. Please take care, wishing the very best for you. |

Find help, either family, or better yet, an agency most suited to assist in these situations. And remember how strong you are! |

Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Manatees How is everyone coming along on preparations for this year? Good. I was light in how much work I did in November and December. January went as planned and I have a good start this month. What types of adjustments are being made in training plans at this point? Last year I added more strength training. Simple philosophy if I can generate more power, I can generate more speed. I've added more running on an incline this year. I need to make my long runs a little longer and with more consistency. Who is using a coach? No. Never have, probably never will. What types of solid race plans do you have in place? Sunrise Side HIM in September, IM Louisville in October, IM Lake Placid July 19. Everything else is Ala carte. Is it convenient and fun are the only limiters. |

Master 4452 | Subject: RE: Manatees Originally posted by cdban66 Originally posted by jmkizer Racing Manatees!!! Is anyone racing? Does anyone have big plans for the weekend in terms of training, Super Bowl, etc.? I'm beginning to assess what the year has for me(a bit late, I know). I'm currently focusing on running, most specifically trail running. It seems to be going pretty well for me. My goals at this point are pretty minimal, just keep adding and making tiny improvements here and there. I figured the beginning of month 2 seems like as good a time as any other to ask, so here goes:
I hope the week treats you well.
So far so good. I don't like being on my trainer so much....It is supposed to be nice here on Saturday (cold, but sunny) so hopefully will get out for the first time in several months.
Just trying to find ways to not hate being on my bike.....
I am. Second year with her; she has become a friend and training partner as well. We are very close in abilities (she beat me by about 3 minutes in a HIM last year) and we are racing IM Santa Rosa together. She says she has plans for us and I should just do as I am told . I have raced my fastest races since being with her so something must be going right. I always just followed a stock plan, which was fine, I got it all done, but I like the more customized plan based on my abilities and strengths.
IM Santa Rosa in May Possibly Coeur D'Alene 70.3 in June A local-ish Olympic in July I am sure I will find some other trouble to get into. Although I don't love the early year training, it will be kind of nice to get the big one out of the way and just be able to enjoy the rest of the season. |

Born and raised here on the Wet Coast. I do know that there is another Kirsten with the same last name who is from somewhere in the PNW as my bib number and hers are often very close and people confuse us . How are you and your mom doing? Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees Wet Coast meaning BC Canadian? Apologize for my ignorance! Yes, there is a triathlete named Kirsten from the Eugene, Oregon area. I think she is/was primarily a cyclist, but has done triathlons up to and including Ironman. I know she was in Tri at the Grove in Cottage Grove (near Eugene) last July, as I passed her on the bike. (Was very proud of myself for that--I have struggled for years to catch/keep up with her on training rides; have slowly brought my Oly split down from 1:33 to 1:12 and change.) I think she is either in my age group (45-49) or maybe the one below--not sure. Mom and I are hanging in there. Just an infinite number of things to do. Most of the physical errands are done with and now it is just this endless pile of bewildering forms. Death and taxes, indeed. On the plus side, we have found a great foster home for our kitty--a friend of a neighbor who's recently retired and has a long track record with fostering rescue cats; currently has just one elderly cat. We visited each others' homes today to set things up. Shelby can even have her own room to retreat to at night. So hopefully we won't be losing our newest "fur child" along with my dad. |

Yep, BC Canadian. I am pretty sure she is in 45-49, which is also my age group. And she is a waaaay faster than I! Good to hear you are hanging in and you have a foster home for Shelby. That will be a load off for you. Glad you are able to check in. |

Last year and this my focus has been on IM, so most things I did -even stand alone events, were geared to that training, but after Chatt I will get back to mainly running events. I love trail runs, so I will try to get as many of those in as possible. I know that my joy lately comes from being out in the woods, so mtb and trail running have just been a natural thing for me the past few years. We're adding camping as well. So, for those that are participating outside the average triathlon, would you care to tell what has created this or why you do what you do? 'Cause I'm a moron. There is no other reason for getting up at 5 am to go get in a pool or to go running in the pouring rain. It's simply moronic insanity. hahaha, moronic insanity pretty much nails it! As far as racing for things other than triathlon, I just like it! Last year and this my focus has been on IM, so most things I did -even stand alone events, were geared to that training, but after Chatt I will get back to mainly running events. I love trail runs, so I will try to get as many of those in as possible. Last year I did a bike event in the Smoky Mountains which reminded me that I like doing those type of events too, so hopefully I will get more of them calendared. The bottom line is I do what I do because I enjoy it and enjoy being with my group of friends and or family who also join in. The Cycle NC mountains ride is practically in SC this year, did you see that? It's in Tryon, south of Hendersonville. It's the same weekend as Lake Logan, again. I did see it! I don't know that I can do it this year b/c I will have Teddy with me and can only pawn him off on others for so long while I'm out having fun! He will be 10 months old, so he may be ok to be by himself in the cabin, but right now I don't count on it! I'm a bit bummed by that and keep meaning to look for other mountain rides. Maybe we need to plan a 2019 CNC Mountain Ride Manatee Meetup? |

Thanks everyone, keep it coming! I think the number of non-tri races and racers is interesting. I wonder about motivation and why we do what we do.
