Married 19 years in September, one teenage daughter.  I doubt there's another person on the planet who could stand me for that long - here's hoping for at *least* 19 more years.

I know this does not answer the OP's question/poll - but in regards to the "what is single" discussion I think people just have a different view on marriage/relationships now ... at least I know I do.

Fewer people are following the traditional path of meet, date, propose, be engaged for a set period of time, marry and move in, have kids, (and stay married despite your misery) ... I have friends who have been long-term engaged but do not yet live together, I have friends who have never been engaged but have co-habitated in commited relationships - like myself they do not need the paper nor the ring to make it official ... you get the idea.

Who really needs to DEFINE the relationship but the two people involved? As long as everyone's happy and being treated with respect and dignity - call yourselves whatever you want.

Single, mostly happily.  Haven't found my other half yet, and not really in any rush.

Previously married and I got the best of the divorce - my wonderful nearly 5 year old daughter.  Now living with the best BF in the universe whose fault, subsequently, it is that I'm even on this website to begin with.

Happily married for 12-years as of June 1...we've been together for 15.  10 year old daughter, 7 year old son.  We met at Pikes Peak Ascent and did many tri's and other events together.  Now we seldom have time to train together and she gave up tri's and the bike after kids, other than an occassional sprint.  She'll can still kick my arse though!

So, from what was said, if I stay in TAN, I'll divorce?

Married to a wonderful wife here, have 3 terrific sons and dog Taz.

Married for 10 years.   3 kids in tow - 8, 6, 5 (girl, boy, boy).

I should say though that Bryan is in the Navy and away a lot.  So we have been in a relationship for 11 years but he hasn't been here for most of it!  I'm not sure we would make it if he was home every day!

Huh. I replied to this but it went away.

Anyhoo ... you are SINGLE!!!  You WERE married.  You GOT a divorce.  NOW you are single and were single the very day that you got divorced from being married!!!

Single. Not with anyone = single.

My earlier comment was that I've observed that there don't seem to be a lot of "never married and single" folks on BT, though there seem to be a whole lot of divorced ones...

Zilla - 2009-06-11 2:39 PM In regards to using single vs. in a relationship, etc.  For me .. when I am any type of committed, monogamous dating situation I do not consider myself single.  By telling someone that I am single implies that I am "free".  I am not "free".  I am in a relationship.  I think by saying you are single opens up the door for people to assume that you are free to date and do what you want with whoever and I wouldn't want to give that impression to anyone .. and I find that it might be slightly disrespectful to the man I am in a relationship with by telling people that I am single when I am clearly not.  That just be the way I roll.  But everyone is different and that's cool too!

I agree, but think the options given in the title made people choose "single" even if they were in a relationship.
As in... not married or divorced.

I would never tell someone asking that I was "single" - nor did I in my response to this thread. Nor did the "not married or divorced" people who answered either. So I'm not sure what the discussion is about...

Married for 2 years, been together almost 9. Been through undergrad, medical school and now residency together. If THAT isn't a test of a relationship, I don't know WHAT is.

No kids, although it may be in the 5 year plan...haven't decided yet!
