That f--king sucks!!

To go from having one of the best days of his fitness "career" to this. Gawd damn life can be cruel.

I hope they find the biatch and string her up by her ovaries on an overpass ............

Speedy recovery to you Joel. That is one place where being a top athlete helps - you should be able to bounce back pretty quick. BT is pulling for you!

I'm just stunned.  What a reminder of how vulnerable we are when we're out there on bikes.  Joel, speedy recovery.  You've got quite a cheering section here!

Oh jeez, that sucks big time- I'm sending along as many good thoughts as I can muster for a speedy recovery for him.  Hope they get the wench that did it and lock her in a room with a bunch of cyclists...

Hope Joel heals quick!! Give him our best.

If you get anymore information, please post.......especially a name & address. I would like to send this person a letter. Leaving the scene is the sign of a true coward in my book!!!

Indeed sad news as this year looked to be his year.  Warm thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery and quick recovery.

How do you leave the scene of an accident after striking someone? What goes on in their head? "Ooh, I hope I get away with this and do not get into trouble for causing that person to be mangled and bleeding on the side of the road?"  (Better hope that nary a cyclist or runner is on that jury pool!)

More important, though, is that he is (relatively) okay.  If you think folks were rooting for him during the marathon, you ain't seen nothin' yet!

Thanks so much for all of your support.   His surgery is this afternoon (still no exact time, yet).  I have printed out your replies and I'm bringing them to him for a boost! I'll be sure to keep you all posted on his condition.

Thanks again... this is really the best family to have in this type of situation.

Wow!

Prayers to Joel for a speedy and full recovery. Make sure he gets the extended warranty on any new parts

Also prayers to you, Katie. Not sure exactly what the relationship is, but I expect you'll see a fair amount of stress being around Joel while he tries to follow doctor's orders...

Thanks for including us.

It's one thing for a driver to stupidly ignore what's going on around them and cause an accident.  But leaving the scene!?!?!  I hope they find her quickly so she can accept her responsibility.

Good luck Joel!  I'm sure with your disciplined approach you'll recover and be back stronger than ever, but we'll certainly miss you at the races this season.

That is horrible! I can't even imagine driving away after something like that but I knonw it happens all the time. It is so unfair for Joel to have this happen after such a great weekend! Is there somewhere we can send him cards as he sits stuck on the third floor?

That sucks hard.  He was poised to have an awesome year, especially after that strong BM.

I was looking forward to meeting him at Columbia, and cheering him as he passed me.

Hopefully he'll get well soon.  Cabin fever will certainly be a factor for someone as motivated as Joel.

Good recovery and good rest.  Come back stronger than before.

I'm so glad that he is alive, and so sad that this has happened to him.  Sad that his season is over.  He is such a dedicated athelte.

It's a privilege to follow Joel's progress here on BT.  One of the highlights of my time here.

Please know that he is in my thoughts and prayers.
