Oh my!  That sucks indeed.  He was on his way to having a kick *** year.  Idiot drivers.  Glad that he is mostly ok.  As much as it sucks, he will come out of this okay.

We can rebuild him. We have the technology.  Better than he was before. Better... stronger... faster.

Please keep us posted, and let him know we're all sending good thoughts his way for a fast recovery ( does he do *anything* slow? ).

That F***ing SUCKS! I am glad Joel is ok and I wish him the best. It is a shame that drivers pay so much attention to their cell phones, radios, and other stupid stuff and so little attention to the road and surroundings... (You should post this in other forums, maybe someone saw the vehicle and can identify it)

GOOD LUCK JOEL!

Omigod.  When I saw this thread title and opened it and the first post was from you instead of Joel my chest tightened up.  What an unbelievable high/low for him.  Of course, thoughts and prayers are with him.  Too bad there's no way for the woman who hit him to have any idea how extensive the community that would like to thrash her is.

(must purge these evil thoughts)

I hope he keeps his head up, thankfully he'll be (mostly) ok. I dread the day something horrific happens to a BTer. I hope they catch that idiot.

Hey YellowKate,

I am so sorry for Joel.  Recovery from this will take a while.  I hope Joel will spend some time researching his ideas on nutrition and training while he is off his feet and maybe put some it down on paper to share here.

Thanks for telling us about the accident.

By the way, we've missed you too.

I have this picture of him in mind slamming down the halls in a wheel chair ala Days of Thunder.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery indeed.

Man...there is just no words to say how much that sucks.  And to think that I too was riding last night tryin to recover from Boston and Joel was just 30 miles away getting hit by a moron!

Yellowk8t, I am going to PM you and see if I can visit him the Hospital.  Is there a food he likes?  I'm sure I can get the wifey to whip something up.

Not that you guys need any verification to know how good of a guy Joel is, but he was even willing to give me a ride back from Boston if I wasn't able to get a flight back.  And that was on 1 days notice!  That's the kind of guy Joel is...

Awww man! I was just thinking of writing a post to TH3 about how inspiring it was to follow his Boston marathon. Joel was one of the first BT'ers I ever interacted with on the site, when I was posting stupid questions to the Nutritional Cafe and he was responding with lucid, thoughtful, and informative answers.

Godspeed, Joel. Get better soon. You've experienced the extreme highs and extreme lows available in endurance sport -- you're just experiencing them in the same week.

Good luck with the recovery Joel, sorry to hear abotu the bad news.  I guess one positive note to get out of this is that he gets to spend more time on BT!  don't know if thats good or bad.

Best wishes
