Raced the Olympic last year. Not sure if I will race it this year. Good luck in Joplin Scot. Tulsa is my home town and Joplin was always "local" to us too. I never did any Triathlons in Joplin, but did the Tri Fest in Bentonville once and took my kids to it once when I wasn't racing so they would feel that had to compare themselves to me. I live in Houston now and think my next "local race" will be in Texas City, TX in October which is around a 70 mile drive. Congrats on the 5K. This time of year races times are 1-2 minutes slower so a 24 minute run is really solid. Most of the 5K I was doing in the 30 miles radius of McAlester, OK from 2015-2021 I could have won with anything under a 21-22 minutes. I did the Sprint TriFest in 2019 and my kids did TriFest in 2020. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Racing Manatees - Better Together in 2022 Tomorrow and Sunday look to be great racing weather here in Oregon (at least in my book). Lows in 50's, highs around 80, cloudy mornings to sunny afternoons. It will be a little nippy in the morning, and our rivers are still colder than usual, but judging by the level of the Willamette here it should be okay up in Salem. Our lakes are still in the high 50's and low 60's and I'm guessing the river would be similar? This past week has been on the cool side for July but not really very rainy--a few passing showers. So hopefully the rivers are back to normal. Looks to be a beautiful weekend and hoping to get in a long run and ride. Two more weeks of training before (in theory) I have two races in a row--Tri at the Grove (local Oly) and Calgary 70.3. No, I'm not ready for this. That's gonna hurt! I'm not doing Oregon 70.3 but if anyone's planning on passing through Eugene (or maybe Corvallis?) send me a PM if you want to meet up! Good luck to the Oregon racers. |

My son and I are playing in a golf tournament tomorrow morning while my wife and daughter are out on an activity, and then I am hoping to get the boat out Sunday with my daughter for halibut. We only have about 7 weeks left with her until I take her to college, so we are trying to do as much as we can. Late next week we start salmon fishing. Just putting the finishing touches on a fly rod for my wife for salmon, and then I am starting a trout rod for my daughter to take with her to college. |

Race update: Joplin Summer Roundup July 10, 2022 Joplin, MO Sprint distance Before I get into this let me say that I have only been taking swimming lessons since about April and sometimes my wifes schedule interrupts those. 5oo meter swim: I was dead last out of the water. By dead last I mean I was the last athlete out of the water. Even the safety wave and super sprinters who started behind me beat me. I am ok with that. Swimming is not my sport....yet. The swim is in a lake on private property. Water temp was about 82. It was a fun swim. Got to hang out with the kayakers a bit and they had nothing but encouragement for me. I typically run out of breath and my shoulders get tired. When I can stop let my HR and breathing calm down then I an go again. After 26 minutes I finally walked up on shore and headed to T1 T1. I took my time wanting to again let the HR and breathing come down. Took a gel and some gatorade. Strapped on my helmet, stuffed my feet in my shoes and socks, and grabbed the Rocket Ship and headed to bike out. Bike 12.3 m : This course is pancake flat compared to where I normally ride. However, it seemed like for the entire 12 miles was a climb. It wasn't until about mile 5 or 6 that I finally started feeling athletic again and was able to start generating some decent bike speed. Having come out of the water last I was now starting to catch some of the other athletes. When that happens your motivation will ratchet up a few nothches, 48 minutes later I am rolling back into T2 T2. quick here, racked the rocket ship, swapped shoes. dropped my helmet, and headed out for the fun part. Run 5K: This is my jam. I love the running portion of a tri. The course is flat with an aid station 200 yards out of transition, I passed it up. Run felt good. I was hoping for a 27 or 28 minute run. It is an out and back with an aid station at the 1 mile mark I believe and another at the turn around. I finished the run in 26:59 at an 8:40 pace. I was ecstatic. In the end I finished my age group 9/9 male 55-59. Happy with run, Satisfied with bike, content with swim. Always room for improvement. I LOVE THIS SPORT even though I suck at it. I have a phenomenal team that supports me 100%. Oh yeah the rocket ship is a Kestrel full carbon tri bike with a carbon wheelset. Love this thing. |

Thank you for sharing the details ))) I love that you loved it. I happened to be much more happy when I focus on the "I love doing it" aspect and not the place in the score table. Swimming is my weakest piece and I am usually super happy that I finished it at all, so I feel you I remember it always took me a moment to get my mental and fitness on the bike after swim. I think maybe it's because you are horizontal for such long time while swimming, and then immediately vertical, and the body needs to adjust. That's how I explain it to myself. Congrats on the run, that's a great achievement! Again, I love that you loved it! So..... When is the next race...? |

Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Racing Manatees - Better Together in 2022 Gout has had me out! I ate a lot of bad stuff when two of the kids came up for the weekend of the 4th. I have been paying for it all week. I finally went for the nuclear option and took the gout super drug and cleared it up, but it makes me tired, so no energy until today. Hopefully, I'm past it and keep myself under control for the rest of the Summer. |

Not sure if I am going to race it though. I am thinking of doing the Broken Sword sprint tri in Clarksville, AR in August. I also think about doing Trifest in Bentonville, AR. Again, not sure of that one. I did it last year and really want to improve my time. I just have some issues with the race organizer. So we will see. I will let you guys know when I am sure. |
