It read like a story you read in the paper where someone falls out of their boat on a fast river, and usually it doesn't end well. I wonder if anyone hit any rocks? Or was it not quite that shallow? Great job getting through. |

1731 Denver, Colorado | Subject: RE: Racing Manatees - Better Together in 2022 Thank you all! It should be nice and fun My friend flew here to run with me. She is much, much faster (and train much, much better), so the plan was for her to go at her pace and wait for me at the finish line. But she did something with her calf (probably not seriously injured, probably overuse or some tention), so she's going to take it easy. We will have walkie talkies in case we split, so we can communicate in case she needs my help or anything. Anywas, looking forward to it )) I love trail racing! |

297 | Subject: RE: Racing Manatees - Better Together in 2022 I haven't checked in here in a bit. We just spent the week catching and processing about 60 salmon to put in the freezer for the year with nets. Now apparently the fish numbers are even higher - they've been pretty insane this year - so we are going to spend the next bit of time out with rod and reel. Hope everyone's summer is going well!!! |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Racing Manatees - Better Together in 2022 Race was pretty crazy! Usually this race has 200-300 people but only 59 showed up (at least for the Oly, not many more for the sprint). I rode the first 20 minutes of the bike leg (after being passed by one very fast guy right out of transition) entirely by myself! I passed no one, and no one passed me. Like the "I am a Rock" song, triathlon version. There weren't any volunteers on the course either, and only 2 or 3 people cheering. Only a few small course markers, so kept wondering if I'd missed a turn or something. It was like a ride through the triathlon twilight zone, like everyone else had died of the latest plague or been abducted by aliens, but there I was, unnoticed somehow, out riding my bike like a nut through the cloudy Oregon morning thinking I was racing a tri. Long story but I ended up 6th woman (out of 20--bunch of college kids up there) and 1st age group (out of 2, LOL). My bike split wasn't my fastest there (the course seemed a bit different so not sure how to compare) but I was 3rd overall woman for the bike, which is definitely a first for me. (My bike is ALWAYS much worse than my overall placing.) Maybe those college kids need to get better bikes or practice technique more. (It was windy, and there was some serious lack of aero-ness going on with the younger set.) Edited by Hot Runner 2022-07-23 6:01 PM |

Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Racing Manatees - Better Together in 2022 Congratulations! I've done some of those super small races and had that same where is everyone thoughts. It's kind of crazy, because you feel like you are racing yourself and have no good gauge on how well you are doing or not doing. |

You are not obliged to state how many are in your age group! Ha, ha! |

So much to love here! |
