I was very remiss in filling out the spreadsheets, mostly just not taking the time to do so. Appreciated the challenge as it got me back going again . Congrats Melanie! Kuddos to everyone who participated. Even if you have not met your goals, you should be proud of all the efforts you put towards it. It's a great thing! I feel happy I was able to meet one of my goals: eating breakfast at home before work. This is a huge problem for me, and it affects my whole day - work and training wise. Thanks to the challenge I was able to add breakfast to my daily routine, and even make it as a "family thing." I now have breakfast with my kids, which gives us a little bit more together time. Even if we are just looking at ourselves with a "I hate mornings" look Once again, great job everyone, and big congrats to Melanie! PS... so... when is the next challenge....? |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED Sad that I could not continue with the challenge! I was on it until the night before Wanaka. I don't think any planks, esp. elbow planks, will be on my program for a long, long time! Once I get clearance to do so, I do hope to figure out with a trainer or PT what kinds of other exercises might be safe and appropriate to keep core/legs/other arm from completely falling apart while my elbow heals! This year's goals will probably be more running-related once I can get back to it. Once it's safe enough, I should be able to train and compete without a lot of the discomfort issues that biking would pose and strength/range of motion rehab needed for swimming. My trail-running mojo is pretty much DOA; thinking more along the lines of Crater Lake Marathon (if staying in the northwest) and/or Honolulu Marathon (if we end up in Hawaii). |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED I have done both before (and did the half at Crater last summer) but both are well worth the 26 miles! Until my IM, hadn't run a marathon, or probably anything over 15 miles, since my late 20's. But since I did do a marathon in November (after a 2.4 mile swim and 112 miles of biking) and it didn't seem all that difficult, I've stopped feeling like my marathon days are over. I actually liked the 3-hour training runs...Maybe, having started so young, I just needed a 20-year break from that particular distance! Edited by Hot Runner 2019-03-05 7:05 PM |

PLUS Mary is twisting my arm to do the Colfax Marathon, which, btw, gives an adidas backpack/duffle to entrants who complete a marathon between Jan 1 and May 18, then do the Colfax Marathon. They call it a double marathon award That is quite the awesome race lineup for which you will earn some sweet swag!! |

Enjoy the cookie and bottle opener. Wonder what beverage they’ll be used for? Not beer, nope, no way. I never touch the stuff. Yuck!! I think I have a lovely Cold Snap that would be worthy... And thank you for honoring me by bestowing the title of 'winner' to my name. Everyone put forth a strong effort, the challenge was a good incentive to get us all thinking more about exercise/food choices/not being hibernating slugs during the doldrums of winter. Can I just say how happy I am to have found the manatees? Seriously. I was thinking of that this morning, what a great and interesting group of people make up this pod and I'm glad to know and 'know' all of you. Edited by melbo55 2019-03-06 9:31 AM |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED News Flash-- I actually DO have bones, tendons, and blood vessels in my left hand and can see/feel them today. (Since surgery has been kind of like a Michelin Man blob). I can make a fist, move wrist, spread fingers, etc. All of which I was "allowed" to do before but couldn't exactly. Now if only I could figure out why the skin is way dryer than the other one (which is already pretty bad) and my palm has this weird orange tint. Do they paint you with something during surgery? |

I'm glad to hear that the swelling is down! And yes, I think that their is an antiseptic or something they put on you that is orange. |

They paint you in orange before surgery. My lower left leg was still orange when they took the surgical cast off two weeks after my surgery. The orange clashed with the purple/red/green and yellow of my skin. Glad you can move the digits! |
