Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm kind of like Bryan.. We seem to have things in common.. Anyway, I'm have a 7-8 pound spread that I'll hit during the year (145-152). However when I'm coming up on a targeted race I always seem to be 148 and I don't really work at it. I just make sure I don't get too skinny, I haven't had to worry about gaining too much, yet. |

The Original ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here's mine: Since my workouts aren't high volume right now I've cut back on carbs and increased my protein. I feel really good and try to adjust my carbs w/ my daily workouts. Breakfast: Cheerios w/ skim milk and raisins, coffee Pre Run: Gu Roctane before 1 hr run Lunch: Cottage cheese w/ blueberries Snack: Almonds, green tea Snack: Protein shake w/ 2 scoops of whey powder, frozen strawberries w/ water Dinner: Probably chicken or fish, salad **I'm probably not eating enough though?? Eating too much?? I really have no clue. Edited by runnergirl 2009-07-01 3:08 PM |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've read an article about weight during IM training and talked to a tri coach who had coached couples for IM. The couple did most of their training together and ate some/most of their meals together. In the couple the men tend to lose weight and the women tend to gain weight. Similar foods, similar training loads but different effects on each persons weight. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I struggle to keep from losing weight when my training volume is high. I stuff my face to no avail. I eat well, love to cook, and love to eat but still I lose. So I supplement with chocolate. Lots of it. Buy it by the case at Costco. Want some? I am currently working my way through the Reese Peanutbutter cups........ |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() LaurenSU02 - 2009-07-01 10:42 AM I managed to gain 15 lbs during IM training (well, I raced my IM 15 lbs heavier than I raced my HIM 11 months prior). I would venture to say I had no problem getting in enough calories.... sad to say, this happened to me too!! It didn't feel like I was eating "that much", but yeah, oops, still trying to lose the weight. Then again, I think college was a big part of the weight gain? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey - I'm just like Brian. 163 in the winter (when I'm off-track and holiday partying) and currently happy to see 157 now that I've been training and racing and it's summertime. Too bad I'm probably several inches shorter and certainly have a higher body fat... OH! I also like a few glasses of wine with dinner. Maybe we're long lost twins?! |

I started my IM training Jan 1st at roughly 168 at 5.10 and I'm now 158 with 3.5 weeks to go. I eat as much as possible when ever I can. I would guess around 3000-4000 cals a day. I try to eat healthy but will not turn away cake, wine, cookies, ice cream from time to time. ok, more like something from that list once a day. I do make sure I eat roughly 100-150 grams of carbs within the 1st 30 min after a very hard workout. LOL about the 300 yards of swimming. I was thinking "who would get up at 4am to swim 300 yards"? Not a Kona finisher ?!? Edited by stchase34 2009-07-01 3:56 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't have anything to add but this is interesting to read. I've been wondering lately if I am getting enough calories. This makes want to start tracking my calories for a week or so jsut to get an idea of where I stand. Sometimes I get so hungry that I could eat everything in the fridge and other times I have to force myself to eat. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I eat A LOT. People are shocked by how much I eat sometimes. I'm a big fan of the post-long workout large pizza. Someday my metabolism is going to dive bomb, and it's going to be tragic |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I didn't read every post completely. One of the best things I did was to go see a sports nutritionist. As athletes we spend tons of money on gear, coaching and other things. He was able to dial in a great plan for food and energy. Before seeing him I would struggle to get through afternoon workouts. Now doing 2 aday workouts are easier to do than months ago. As for losing weight I weighed 148 and wanted to race at 140-142. He was able to get a plan for me that has got me down to 142 . Which he said through testing is a better weight for me. Lost the weight and fat, but was still gaining lean muscle mass. I am eating between 2800- 3100 calories a day not including recovery drinks. Which are about 500-550 calories. If you can try to find a nutritionist near you and see what they says. Going to him was the last piece of the puzzle. He was able to really dial in a plan that works for me. |

Show me where people are claiming they need/want to gain weight? Clearly you don't have this problem. Clearly you don't understand the problem. Probably just like how I can't understand how a guy like you hovers at 220 pounds and can't lose the weight. Eat less...eat better...exercise more...and you WILL lose weight. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I thought when I started training that the weight would just come off and I would struggle to keep at a decent weight. I mean - I went from working out 3-4 hours a week to 8-11. I'm less careful about what I eat but I don't think I'm eating a LOT more than I was...However, my body composition has changed. I'm way more muscle-y now. My BF said the day before yesterday "HIM training agrees with you - you should do more of these." so I guess I don't look too bad - but it is slightly disconcerting that my jeans are all a little tight. (T-shirts and tops fit way better though ...) |

I eat too much, that's how come I don't lose weight. I suspect "I [do] understand the problem." The OP wanted to gain weight. In previous posts, I suggested eating more calorie/nutrition rich food (i.e. peanut butter, etc.) Agreed it is "non-relevant" and I am not advocating pound cake an ice cream weight gain plan. Sorry for not using sarcasm font. Fixed above. |

![]() | ![]() Daremo - 2009-07-02 8:56 AM ADollar is the OP ........... ![]() Fine, I'll be serious: ADollar: eat almond butter sandwiches on whole wheat bread. Calorie and nutrient dense (AB is higher in fiber than PB). Add a glass of skim milk and an apple or banana. There is about a 400 cal. healthy snack. Salmon and high oil fish are also good as the Omega oils are high in calories but obviosuly good for you too. Snack on dried fruit and nuts (again high cal, high nutrition - 1 dried apriot has like 100 calories) Alternatively, come hang with me an eat pound cake and ice cream and wash it down with beer. |
