Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: The Biggest Loser KSH - 2013-01-10 8:53 AM You know what... I think that if the show really CARED about the people on there and them losing weight, they would keep them on the ranch for a month before letting people go. At least give them a shot at changing their lives by learning new habits for 30 days. I finally watched the second night last night. Very sad to see Nate go! Ugh. Kills me when you can see that someone is ready to change their life, and appreciates the help, but they have to go home. I thought the same thing. Be on the ranch 1 or 2 weeks, you don't lose 'enough' weight, so bye bye! What sort of message does that send and mental mess does that create? I'm sure each and every one of them have tried for at least a week to lose weight, didn't see the results they wanted and quit. It takes time to create a habit of working out and eating right. One week isn't going to undo years of improperly treating one's body. |

Part of me was thinking, "wow, that's just sad they can't even jog/walk or walk the 5k." The other part thought, "This is so great, because I know I can't imagine how HARD it is for them with that much weight, from a sedentary lifestyle." |

She just seems too 'pretty girl' and doesn't want to push herself. Her teammate Michael, the biggest guy on the show, beat her! I was annoyed by her 'performance' in the 5k. I was already feeling like she's a slacker. I agree - really not impressed by Alex. |

I know most of us don't think 5k is very far....but to some people it really is.... Okay, back to watching now.... For Danni to run it in 35 min or so is pretty impressive. Off the couch in 4 weeks to run 11min/mile. I remember completing my first 5k 4 years ago thinking my body was going to explode. I like the fact that they did a 5k in week 4. I imagine they will be running BL Marathon down the road, but I think for the average overweight viewer this may give them a bit of inspriation to run. To alot of people 5k is a loooong way. Alex is a wuss for sure. Comes across as the typical overweight girl with the princess mentality. Jeff and Jillian was classic. He is mailing it in as well. Hasn't found his motivation yet I don't believe. Edited by TrevorC 2013-01-22 9:39 AM |

"Injured" really??? What crap. OK, football guy can't beat Danni...sad. He doesn't seem to have any drive... as showcased. Just that alone, I would have made it my mission to beat her. The 5k is a big deal. Opens their eyes. Anyone can "do" a 5k. It was cool they showed that first to give regular folks something to shoot for. I really like Bingo... he seems like a really good kid. Parents are doing great helping him. And (forget name) Heart surgon... that's a a bit of pressure. Makes perfect sense. For a teenager she is very intelligent and seems quite mature for her age. If she does want to make hearts healthy, she needs to get her mom's beating faster. |

Bingo is great... very comfortable with the camera and talking. His mother is doing great losing 27 pounds I think. No mention of the father.
I felt bad for the oldest girl (can't remember name) that is a ton of pressure to live up to and I hope she can figure out what she wants in life. I was expecting a mean joke from the cheerleaders for the other girl for a half a second when the cheerleaders came out... I don't know some sort of mean High School movie thing or something. Glad it didn't turn out that way. Good for Jackson to motivate his team and find the leader in himself. |

Why did they all just choose to lay around like sloths though? I'd of least played some air hockey or something... I heard a contestant say that too, but it was really glossed over. Nice editing, BL. I agree - I would have played the most spirited versions of air hockey and pinball EVER. Maybe they decided this would be their rest/recovery period for the whole day. Finally watched it. I couldn't believe it when they covered th air hockey table with food! That looked like the most fun activity in the room! As for Pam's dance. Way overboard. And gloating at Jillian? Jillian was the one who told her she COULD do it! I'm one episode behind, so I just watched this last week. Aside from Pam's dancing being so over the top that I had to fast-forward through it, I was really turned off that she tried to turn it around and throw it in Jillian's face, as if, in a million years, she could have accomplished the weight loss without Jillian's help. I know she's a broken, psychological hot mess, but it annoys me to no end that she's set up this antagonistic relationship between herself and Jillian. I know it's just so that she can use it as an excuse when she fails and blame it on Jillian not liking her or not wanting her to succeed, or whatever nonsense she cooks up in her head, but it bothered me a lot. I'm not a fan of hers. She reminds me of one of those kids that I see at my son's soccer games who gloat and talk trash endlessly as long as they're winning, and as soon as they start to lose, they start cheating and crying and threatening to quit(*coughConda*cough). It's hard not to root for someone like that to fail. |

Elite 6387 | Subject: RE: The Biggest Loser So what is the deal with the 5K? Have they done early ones before like that? Seems much better to do a "progression" on the show than just throwing them all in a marathon later on. I'm not talking them physically doing a build up to a marathon. I'm talking of them doing a progression on the show to motivate viewers and to show them you can start small. |

Agreed. I always cringe when they do the marathon at the end. A marathon is a pretty extreme event even for someone who isn't in bad shape like these people are. It seems like people that watch think they can do one easy since they aren't pushing 4 bills. A marathon is pretty crazy and not to be taken lightly. I'm more worried that the couch potato viewing tries to train for one and gets hurt or doesn't realize how much training goes into a marathon especially from zero fitness level.
I like the 5k idea. Very manageable for someone off the couch in a reasonable amount of time. |

The couch to 5k program is sick for a fatty. It hurts. So I get it hurts. But when I finally dragged my sorry self through that 5km I knew it was ONLY 5 KM. I knew it wasn't anything special. So getting all happy because you got 5k done and having a big standing O at the end. I mean good job. But you aren't 2 years old. You have been at this for a couple weeks. This should be par for the course and you are on to the next mini victory. That is why so few of these people keep it going when they get home. |

It's a building block and a reasonable building block for future events. Should we expect them to complete and Ironman by the end of the season? No way. Just a few weeks ago these people were at fitness level ZERO. Now they can complete a running event and they can keep entering when the leave the ranch. In my town there seems to be at least 2-3 every weekend from spring through fall. I think we just disagree on what a reasonable goal is for these contestants. |

I could see how it could motivate someone to get off the couch and try a 5k. While it may not be a big deal to most of us, a 5k is a big deal for alot of people. |

Part of the reason I got into triathlon in the first place was that I saw an overweight, unathletic kid on MTV’s “Made” train for and complete a sprint tri in 60 days. I was athletic but out of shape and had never done any kind of endurance sport or even run a 5k before, but I watched it and thought “If that kid can do it, surely I can do it.” Hopefully, there’s someone out there who is overweight, but maybe not to the extent that the contestants are, who sees it and thinks, “If these people, who are 100+ lbs overweight, can do it after only a couple of weeks of exercise, maybe I can do one too..” |

Champion 7821 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: The Biggest Loser I have to say that so far, I’m really happy with what seems to be a less competitive format. I really like that the trainers are working as a team, and it isn’t Jillian vs Dolvett vs Bob, trying to keep their teams intact for fear that they have to go home themselves when their team is eliminated. I LOVE that there’s no sequestered team discussion before the elimination. Not only does it prevent the politics and manipulation that gets out of hand sometimes, but it also keeps people from saying, “You know what, everyone, I want to go home—please vote for me.” I noticed that the contestants weren’t given the option of voting for themselves and I like that the votes were kept secret. I understand the need for drama and that the alliances and backstabbing makes for good tv, but I think that TBL should have a higher purpose and that it doesn’t serve that purpose when it turns into Survivor. I’m enjoying the season so far. Jillian is a beast. I love her. I’m terrified of her, but I love her. |
