Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED Checking in after a half marathon yesterday - certainly not my best day, but it was fun to meet up with Jen! Photos of the mini-Manatee meet-up below! You'll have to turn your head on the 2nd one - BT is uploading sideways for me.

Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED Originally posted by StaceyK Just letting you know that I survived the epic hills in my trail run yesterday. It was extremely tough and there was far more walking than there was running. According to my Garmin there was 995m (3,265') of elevation gain and loss over the 20km. I normally love downhills but yesterday they became more brutal than the uphills. I don't think I will be lining up any time soon to do the 30k event, I'm not sure how E survived. Yowza!! That is a bit of elevation!! Downhills sound great, but they kill your quads and knees -especially when you have so much of them. Great job! |

ETA: It didn't respect my quotes. Added the XLM back but without the < ... /> around it. Oh cool! Here is Toughman Tennessee 70.3 bike. It asked me to put in my weight, my bike's weight, and my (meager) FTP which appears to have led to the expected time to completion (the actual race went quicker than that). It was extremely hilly the first 15 and last 15 miles which seems spot on. (Capture.PNG) Attachments ---------------- Capture.PNG (112KB - 3 downloads) |

The 30k is called the Bloated Goat - maybe to do with the steep rocky terrain that normally only goats climb - i really don't know. the 20k is called the Little Fat Lamb and the 10k is called the Bleating Kid My legs weren't too bad yesterday (Monday) but oh my this morning (Tuesday) WOW. I nearly had to get Phil to come and help me off the toilet at 3am cause my quads hurt so bad. Poor E did the 30k which has 1,600m of elevation gain but then she had to climb up the stairs to get on the plane and then down them to get off the again and they have moved into a new house and her bedroom is upstairs. I think she was planning on sleeping in the downstairs recliner last night. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED Ouch! I remember doing that a couple of times after the full marathon at Crater Lake. Just didn't feel like climbing the stairs to my bedroom1 Probably at least as much elevation gain, maybe a bit more, but not a trail run. (Reminding self that race may well be my goal for this year.....) Having to fly or drive right after a race like that really sucks! Very impressed with your race--sounds tough! But my enthusiasm for trail running, which had really taken off after moving to a city with an outstanding network of trails, has sadly died a premature death. Think I will be exploring them at walking pace with a trekking pole or two instead. To my thrilling routine of walking 1-2 hours a day and 2-3 hours of PT has now been added several hours of test prep--one of the local districts I'm applying to requires a test that takes FIVE HOURS to complete. I thought I could hold off until summer or next year as it's only required to convert my provisional certificate to a normal one, but one of the districts (I live right next to the boundary between two neighboring ones) has it as an application requirement. ARRRRGH! No wonder they have a teacher shortage here! Edited by Hot Runner 2019-03-18 9:00 PM |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED So Bataan was 100X better than when I did it two years ago. The weather was MUCH cooler and I was able to run it because I wasn't tied to an untrained teammate. On a pretty cool note... the local paper picked up a pic of me and some RWB teammates as we crossed the finish line together (slide 40) |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED Originally posted by amd723 Came across this photo today after I bailed on my workouts. Wow! The amazing thing about Bataan is the atmosphere. It starts with a ceremony to remember that fateful march nearly 80 years ago, and there is a celebration of the survivors. This year there were 3 remaining, and 5 that had passed since the last march. Another incredible part is that the wounded warriors lead the race, they are the first wave to go. So at some point during everyone's day, unless they are moving at the same pace as the wounded warriors, they will pass the single, double, and even triple amputees, who are also out there doing 26.2 miles in the desert sand. Lastly, the race is heavily populated by men and women in uniform. I spend a LOT of time with veterans so it gets pretty "every day" for me. But once in a while, when I hear "my guys" hooah, or when the medevac heli flies overhead, I think about how they, and my amazing son, signed that contract that says they will give everything, up to and including their life to defend this country, and my heart explodes with love, respect and gratitude. And I remember that my achy foot or back or... is a small price to pay to honor them. |

You and all of your fellow moms, dads, and family members are a big part of the backbone. You are thanked and respected for it all. Perspective. |
