Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by StaceyK Quiet weekend in the manatee pond. Hopefully that means that you all had a great weekend outside in some nice spring weather. Our summer is starting to disappear here. I'm happy that the really intense heat is going (no doubt it will pop its head up once or twice in late March or early April) and I don't mind the rain, but I would really like it to stay light in the mornings. Is there any place on earth where it is daylight from 5am to 7pm every day of the year? If there is maybe I need to move there. Oh and a very quick Dopey Challenge update - we have all secured our entries so now it's time for serious training (which we have already started) and serious savings so we can all get there. Just thinking about it is making me a little nervous already ![]() After looking forward to things warming up just a little this month, we're now starting to have some snow fall. Expected to get a few inches throughout tomorrow. This isn't making any sense. I might end up running more in shorts during February than in March. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think Darwin is at about 12.5 degrees south, so the situation should be about the same there (though flip-flopped on here with shorter/longer days) if you are into relocating! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by DaveL Sorry for another "check in" I am feeling really disconnected recently. I dont have internet access at work as I am still in class room training for the next few weeks. The new house is good but a lot of little jobs have been taking up time so training has been very limited. I am trying to get back into a grove and have decided to focus most of my energy on the bike. I might end up doing a couple of local runs but will be focusing mostly on gravel type races for the year. I hear that gravel is the new thing with Manatees! :-D Thanks for the proof of life post. We all understand that it'll take a while to settle in to the new job and new house. I'm just glad that you had this opportunity! |

So jealous, Stacey! Yes Disney does have their act together for their races! When I did the half a few years ago it was really warm for a January day. By the end of the race it was 85 with 100% humidity. They added aid stations to the course and they were as fully stocked as the planned stations. Disney and Ironman races are the only races I've run that haven't run out of water, Gatorade, or food for those of us in the middle to back of the pack. Word of warning - Disney serves Coke products only so the on-course electrolyte drink will be PowerAid. |

All the Disney races -as well as lots of other races like the LA marathon, are put on by my LRS Track Shack. They put on lots of local races to from 1 milers up and do a fantastic job with all of them. Staci, you and your group will have a great time! You're already a step up on the training, so you've got this!! |

I was looking at that thread the other day. A similar thread comes up every few months and one of the "solutions" is always to get rid of the mentor groups. They think that will cause people to post more in TT. That wouldn't work with me. I feel "safe" here. I don't post much in TT because I feel like what I would add would be meaningless or, even worse, wrong. I don't know what the answer is for re-stimulating TT, but I don't think closing the mentor groups is it. Maybe it is, but I don't think it's a given that those people will automatically transfer their chatter to TT. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Janyne it was great to read your Zoe update on FB. Glad you found some toys to occupy her mind. Hope she continues to improve. We are trying our hand (very chewed on hand) at fostering a puppy. She's a cutie, and smart. I'll miss her when she's adopted away, but having a puppy in the house again is a handful! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by StaceyK I am just the opposite. Mornings suck for me so it doesn't matter if it is dark or not. The evening hours give me tons of energy and happiness. Originally posted by Hot Runner It would not be 5 AM to 7 PM--don't think that's physically possible year-round on Earth, but if you live pretty much smack on the equator (i.e. Singapore) your daylight will be a very predictable 12 hours every day. Then again, if you want any cool weather, there might be compelling reasons not to! Saigon isn't bad--I think we're at 12.5 degrees north, and it really doesn't vary that much. Useable light (as in you can run without a headlamp or street lights) right now from about 5:45 AM to 6:20 PM; it will only vary by about 25-30 minutes at either end between winter and summer. It's always light by 6, and never really dark before 5:45. That would give most people working 9-5 jobs a chance to at least get in a morning run, and commute home from work in the daylight every day. See I could do that. I truly don't care about light in the evening but I don't do well getting up in the dark. In the middle of winter here the sun rises at about 7:15 and sets at about 5pm and I don't cope that well with out the light. |

Who needs light in the morning? But if we have to have it, it should be in the winter! In the summer it doesn't get dark until 9pm, but the winter it's 5pm?!?!?! (at least at my latitude) If they switched it to where it was daylight savings time in the winter it wouldn't be such a difference 8pm & 6pm. |

I understand doing one or the other but if this passes we will be an hour ahead of AZ year 'round and we'll be off from Colorado and Texas for half the year. It would be weird gaining an hour by driving north in to Colorado. The proponents here talk of how it will be dark for the kids in the morning in the winter. |

![]() | ![]() Checking in, friends! After the 55K two weeks ago, I've literally not done anything resembling training or working out. Part of that was much needed recovery (my feet and toes were really chewed up -- the swelling and blisters are down, but toenail beds are still purple), but part of it is that I'm putting a huge effort into getting my house ready to potentially put on the market. Basically 10 years worth of neglected home projects are being squeezed into about a month. I hate getting too far ahead of myself on these things, but there are two job openings at my company's corporate headquarters (Atlanta) that I've applied for and my leadership has put in a heavy recommendation for me. They haven't even started the interview process yet, but they keep saying they want to "move quickly" which is exciting. And terrifying. But mostly exciting. My biggest fear is my house not selling quickly. My best friend/realtor is coming over this week to walk through the house and give me more tips, so I know that will help. But it's still a great unknown and something I've never done before. |
