Member 836 North Augusta, South Carolina | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED I have both the Scosche Rhythm+ and the Rhythm24. The battery life on the 24 is def an improvement, but I agree with Ray that the accuracy of the 24 is not as good as the Rhythm+. the benefit of both is that they do not leave my breast bone raw and bleeding post run. FTP test today. I am so ridiculously irritated because my goal was 200 Watts (up from 181w) and I missed it by 2 watts!!!!!! That said, pleased with the improvement and happy about the fact that I can push more watts when I ride outside at 70% power |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED Sounds like me--I am always hovering right above/below an FTP of 200 watts. (I hold it on the 20-minute test, but FTP is--I think--95% of that.) Once in 2017 I managed to get an FTP of 207 (I think 215 or 217 on the 20-minute test) but never quite got there again. Maybe aging, or just not happening to do the test when at peak race fitness in the summer. Right now my FTP is probably about 160 or 170. That's about what I can hold--maybe a little higher-- for 4 X 5 minutes with 3 minutes rest. Arrrgh! The thought of having to start all three sports over pretty much from zero--would be lying if I didn't say it is often very hard to get motivated! Basically at this point I am hitting the bike trainer because it's the only thing standing between me and incurable insomnia and insanity. On the plus side (I guess), my understanding of suffering has been rearranged in a way that probably only childbirth would otherwise do. I can't conceive of anything workout-wise that would equal what the PT puts me through! |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED So I had put the idea of a new Fenix 5S Plus out of my head cause I really don't need it - it would just be handy to be able to load maps onto my watch as I get very easily lost. But the black ones are $1,000 here and if you want white then you are talking $1,200. So my thought was that I would get one when I complete my 2019km for the year (which at the rate I am going isn't going to happen so you know... Then today I get an email from one of the sports stores here and they have the black one on sale for $700 and now I am vexed. Convince me why I don't need a new watch and my 4 year old 735 is fine. I know the 935 might be cheaper (700 here) but the Fenix 5S is smaller (and prettier) and I will wear it as my every day watch like i do my 735. Edited by StaceyK 2019-04-10 8:44 PM |

It is so sad that it isnt owned by a high level athlete but it has learned to adjust to my level. The battery lasts forever and it is fun to map out a hike and then use the "bread crumbs"to get back. |

If I was going to convince you to get the fenix Id probably point out that 4 years is a long time for a smart watch and odds are trouble is on the horizon and $300 off probably is pretty rare . But, since you don’t want to get the watch- never mind! |

I also have a 5s and love it. I got mine at a Black Friday sale, so significantly reduced price. Otherwise it feels like an awful lot of watch for little old me. I could have gotten away with the 735 and almost bought one except for the 5s sale. So......you're fine with a 735. But you'll be fine with a 5s, too. I'm a terrible enabler. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED I managed to "swim" today for the first time since the injury. PT has been urging me to try for a couple weeks but has taken me this long to work up the nerve. Pretty slow and awkward and doubt I would have made much forward progress without fins, but managed to do 1100 yards with a mix of dolphin kick, very sorry excuse for freestyle, very pathetic excuse for breaststroke, and dog paddle worthy of an arthritic, 18 year old canine. |

While it may not have been pretty, you did it! That's a big step. I remember when i first went swimming after my shoulder surgery - it was ugly too (of course my normal swimming is ugly, so there is that), but it was great PT. |

310 Raleigh, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED Hi Pod, I'm feeling down today. I'm 3 weeks until HIM race day. Last week my training was messed up with travel and I didn't get much training in. Then after returning, I"ve been totally sidelined with some type of chest congestion illness. A quick trip to the supermarket left me drained and flat on my back for an hour or two today. Next weekend is a Oly warm-up race (presuming i'm back on my feet by then) then the taper starts. Anyway, I'm worried that I've missed out on my long workouts during peak training time. For those of you that have gone through something similar, once I'm back to health, should I try and work in at least another long bike/run. How close is too close to race day to be trying to build endurance? Thanks for any advice! |

Your body needs time to adapt to the training, so I don't think doing any long sessions inside 2 weeks will be helpful. You are better trained then you think you are; just concentrate on getting better! |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED I would focus on resting up and getting better. If you're feeling up to it, maybe do a longer bike or run at easy effort next week; if not, forget that AND the race. At this point you have a lot more to lose from worsening or lengthening an illness than you do to gain from one more long ride or run, or a tune-up race. |

Member 836 North Augusta, South Carolina | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED I get sick every year on Sept 1 (4 weeks after going back to school) and my A-race is 3rd weekend of Sept HIM. At this point, you are trained. Missed one last week isn't going to make you or break you. Trust your training and focus on getting to the start line healthy. |

You'll be fine. The main thing right now is to rest and get better. I guess you could skip Beaverdam and do a long bike/run next weekend OR else do Beaverdam on Saturday and get a long ride or run in on Easter? FWIW, most people in my office have been sick as well. |
