Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Fred D - 2012-05-14 7:28 AM Still not sure about racing this coming weekend. We will see, I would say I am favoring doing it, but am going to have to be willing to pull the plug if things aren't right. Whats on tap for training today? That is a harder decision than a lot of folks realize good luck with it! Hour on the trainer and some strength training this morning. Just trying to stay active and keep the conditioning as best I can. Driving to DC for the week later this morning, I will wave when I go by Fred! |

![]() | ![]() Fred D - 2012-05-14 4:27 AM bzgl40More like the soft tissue above the knee cap. There is no swelling and it is not tender to the touch. Sounds like VMO (muscular issue). I would suggest some deep tissue massage. You might be right. Time to break out the foam roller. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks everyone for thoughts on the race. I have done this race the last 4 years and fun to look back: 2009: 42:20 2010: 40:30 2011: 39:19 2012: 38:41 Great job to James as well who did very well in a sprint tri this weekend and to Brian on the half marathon. I decided to take today off as I woke up with a sore throat and just really tired. It was going to be an active recovery day anyway so just bagged it. My legs actually feel close to fully recovered so happy about that. 3 weeks of good training left before a 1 week taper. Fred: Really hope you can get to the start line and everything holds up. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning - lots going on this morning. Fred, I can see the dilemma. That's a tough choice. Weigh in - 119 this morning which is pretty much down 6 from last week - i think this is the after-effect of the long bike and run weekend. I also didn't really over-indulge. We'll see where i even out to in the middle of the week. Tonight i have swim group and that's it. |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Upside to unemployment? I'm headed to Rev3 Quassy to race the Oly distance I already booked a trip home (Philly area) for Memorial day. I extended it by about a week and registered for the race. Southwest Air's lack of change fees makes them one of my favorite airlines. Plus, it'll be $50 to fly with my bike. Rudy - I'm trying to make arrangements to stay and volunteer for the half! You're racing it, right? |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today is a recovery day for me as it was race day yesterday and my calves are really feeling it right now! The slightly daunting part of that is that it means there are now only 27 days left til my first HIM! |

![]() Haven't checked in in a while. Had my nephew's college graduation Sat morning, then we were hosting a goodbye party for one of our training partners who is moving to Fla. So Sat was a busy day and got nothing in, while eating way too much. Sunday got a 7 mile hilly run in with that same grop, but it was a pretty social stop and walk and talk and take pictures kind of run. It was actually pretty refreshing. Weight was up yesterday but stabilizing back at about 208. I'd like to get sub 200, but for now I am good at 207 or so..... I just find myself making bad food choices lately, and it affects my mood. Going to do whatever I can this week, then late Wednesday we're flying to Cozumel for quick week diving vacation, that's gonna take a weight toll as well since I won't be doing much but diving (but probably a lot of walking). Hope all are having a good Monday |

![]() TSimone - 2012-05-14 4:58 PM Question about the changing tents and transition bags. I know I will be given T1 and T2 bags to hang in the tent. Will I be allowed to put my personal transition bag in there too or am I not permitted do that? No. Only the official bags (assuming WTC IM, don't know about rev 3 but I would doubt they want possession of your gear in anything but their bags) Also unrelated to that, I got the Desoto 400 mile shorts today. Anyone else ever use them? I did a short trainer ride and transition run in them this evening and didn't think they were too bad. But I do wonder if I should have gone with the medium instead of the large. I can pull them up pretty high. I've got the bibs and like them. They should be pretty darn tight though, you do not want the fabric rubbing back and forth down there Edited by ChrisM 2012-05-14 7:02 PM |

I can pull them up pretty high. I'm a small in the Desoto, where I'm usually a medium. If they're not moving around, they should be ok though. Mine come up fairly high - and prevent the sunburn tramp stamp. I tried them on and the chamois felt HUGE, but I trusted the good things I read about them. Once I actually used them, they felt good and I forgot about the chamois. |

![]() TSimone - 2012-05-14 1:58 PM Question about the changing tents and transition bags. I know I will be given T1 and T2 bags to hang in the tent. Will I be allowed to put my personal transition bag in there too or am I not permitted do that? You might want to check your race guide for specifics. For my HIM, I was not required to go into the changing tent. You could hang your T1 bag on your bike (if you were planning to use the tent, I assume you would leave it in the tent), and your T2 bag was on the ground lined up by number. I didn't need to change...so out of the water, I ran straight to my bike. Took out my shoes, flasks, and flat kit from my T1 bag...then put my swim goggles and cap in the bag and left the bag at my T1 spot. Helmet was hanging on my handlebars. Off the bike, I found my run bag, and just sat down on a chair outside the T2 changing tent. Put on my socks and shoes, grabbed my hat and flask, and put my helmet, flat kit, and empty flask in my T2 bag (actually a volunteer did it for me)...then ran off. You didn't have any personal items that were not in a T1 or T2 bag unless they were attached to your bike. Shoe had to be in the bag unless clipped in, and helmet had to be in the bag unless you buckled it around your handlebars. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tom - See if you can track down last years athlete guide. That will have a lot useful information in it that will help you get ready. 1.5 hours on the trainer this morning. Main set was 3x20' @90%FTP with short recovery. Legs are all recovered but still a tough workout. Hoping for a big week of training but lots of stuff going on..including daddy daycare all weekend. Lucky for me my parents just got home from Florida and want to see their grandbaby |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello everyone- arthroscopic surgery went well(3 wks ago) Pre & Post surgery was definitely an experience. This was my first time going under. I was literally walking / hobbling 5 hrs later. Then again I was numb and high as a kite from Dilaudid. My Wife Over heard the nurses saying the Doc's had pumped me up with "a lot!" ofDilaudid. Not only is strong but the nausea side effect was awful. A few days later I took an unexpected trip out of the country. Little rest and not much time to rest, elevate, and Ice down. ... Three weeks later stitches are out, I got the clear from the Drs to swim & bike. Of course all of this while listening to the knee. Last Friday I swam with the club and thank God it was only a 2500m day. I was tired after 1500. Mowed the lawn and them decided to go out for a short bike ride. It should have been a trainer ride instead of the road. I was back home after 10 mins. I am doing PT by myself at home. It is definitely going to take a while before feeling 100%. Columbia Tri is definitely out of the question as well as Eagleman. I guess the best is to recover slowly, get stronger and hopefully be ready for Cozumel. I have lots to catch up on the past pages. For those of you who competed the last four weeks, congratulations! |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thomas I hope you will recovery well soon. For all that are injured have faith you can and will recover. Just stay the course, be patient and train smart. Yes it tough, just don’t let the mind beat you. Trust me on this I know. The human body is a truly amazing thing. You ALL are in my thought and prayers. Well, for an update on James. I am back to the usual training after my race this weekend. I placed 4th OA against some fast guys from PA and MD. Top woman was from PA as well. I was really amazed how well I did considering less than 5 months ago I was sick. My body is still recovering from that and the treatment with the medications still being purged. The race was just a sprint. The 15 mile bike course was hilly 1100 ft of climbing. That suited me. I did well on the bike for my time was not too far off the top guys. The run I did not push hard enough. I know this now. I am still learning my level of health and fitness. To be honest I really don't know what to do with this new found health. I am struggling with how hard or not to push myself. This was first triathlon since the late summer of 2010. Well off to work. I’ll try to stay abreast of thing. Edited by tasr 2012-05-15 3:34 PM |
