She did walk out on her own power, so that's at least something. Prayers and presses please (again).

Thanks manatees,

Oh no!  Please know that we are thinking of you and your family.  {{hugs}}

Just checking in, work's been busy and my out-laws have arrived from the UK this week. I thought they were with us for a week then going travelling, it now seems they might stay with us for the next 6 weeks!

I've started some strength training and I'm already feeling benefits: I normally have a weak kick but did some sets this week and felt much stronger, my ITB didn't play up on my run yesterday and my back has completely healed in record time. The bike benefits are a bit more complex, I can definitely push a bigger gear up hill but my legs are a bit tired from the lifting so my overall speed is down. I'm anticipating that the rewards will come once I'm stronger and have had a recovery period.

Yikes!  I guess they haven't heard the "fish and guests stink after three days" thing, huh?  I guess that I may be lucky that my FIL doesn't seem to know where North Carolina is (he and his wife have visited us once in the past twenty years).

I'm glad that the strength training is already paying off!  That's great news!  I imagine that for the next six weeks you'll be extra motivated to train!

This is horrible and unimaginable beyond words. Strength and prayers for all their loved ones.

This is absolutely not to say, Look I have a story too, but that there can be resolution and hope after unspeakable tragedy. Lifelong family friends (and also neighbours) of ours--one of Mutti's closest friends, in fact they spent her friend's last day together, and their three kids and us three kids grew up together--the husband and wife were stabbed to death in their home. Their son was staying with us in Bali at the time.

There can be peace, and there can be hope, eventually. Little things, checking in often, sending small cards and gifts especially in the months after when both the shock but also the bulk of support has worn off, feeling like no protection at all--they make a huge difference.

Mercedes and her husband and family are very much part of the fairly small actually-resident expat/mixed community in Bali. I used to be part of a program that went into the jails (mainly Kerobokan). It was Mercedes who helped us navigate the prison procedures the first time. I have spent a few minutes speaking with Schapelle.

So I genuinely have nothing but nice things to say about them. Yes, there's plenty of inside information to be had in Bali--not merely hearsay conjecture media spin society gossip or otherwise--but things turned out as they did and there isn't much more to say about that.

For both righteous and unrighteous reasons our family has had a lot to do with the prison system in Indonesia.

The justice system is so messed up that you're better off conducting messy, prolonged, multiple murders in cold blood than having a few hundred grams of drugs. The man who murdered our friends got 7 years and will likely be out in 4 or 5.

P.S. Good luck with the in-laws! Yikes. Or maybe take a government-sponsored holiday at Hotel Kerobokan. Probably more peaceful

TJ - So sorry to hear you are going through this. Our prayers go out to you and the entire family.
Ann-Marie - Great job on the race. You ran your race, kept yourself in check, and had a good time. And laid the smack down on the dude that wanted to race you. I'm glad you had a good time, and I'm in agreement, the atmosphere at the trail races I've down is so different from other races. Really cool.
Kate - I'm glad your mom isn't too badly broken, hopefully she can get past this and get all healed up.
Mark - Good luck on the job change.
Matt - I know you are going through some job adjustments as well, I hope that it is all moving forward for you.
David - Good to hear the strength training is helping out. I'm sure the legs will come around on the bike.

I hope everyone had as good a weekend as possible. It certainly has had it's share of ups and downs but one thing we can all do is keep moving forward. I'm keeping each of you in my thoughts.

Nice swim this morning, 5:30am and an empty pool for the first time in months. I love outdoor pools, I don't think I could swim indoors any more!

I did a few sets of barbell curls yesterday and could feel it during the paddle set, hadn't really thought about using your biceps for swimming but I suppose they engage during the pull phase? I was joined by a couple of lifeguards in their work Speedo's, shame I didn't have a Gopro to film it for all the ladies in the MG!

First non kid, non in-laws and non DH time I've had in over a week...and it's while I'm sitting in waiting room of kid dentist office. Been an interesting couple of weeks between dealing with some personal stuff and in-laws coming to visit and getting the last bit of training done. I've checked in here and there but mostly there Scrapped the 5k last weekend. We weren't sure what our plans were going to be when in-laws got here, then "late" registration was $50 each...ummm, not for 5k. Lol

Took Phil to the naturopath on the weekend because he just hasn't been well for over 6 months since he had his knee reconstruction and he isn't getting better. Anyway after a very interesting and full on appointment that went for over 2 hours and included body scans and blood tests we are now on a

No Sugar, No Wheat, No Dairy, No Soy, limited Red Meat diet.

My head is still spinning a bit. Need to do a major clean out of my cupboards, we don't eat much processed food but what we do have has at least one of these things in it. I think that the no sugar thing is going to be the hardest thing for me to cope with. So Ashley and Jo how did you manage it?

I stopped eating bread last year when I moved to a Paleo type lowish carb diet; I try to stick to foods that I can either pick or kill to eat and grains don't come into that, you have to do a lot of work to make wheat into something edible! I also try to avoid sugars but I'll eat berries and apples and limit my sweeter fruit intake. I don't agree with avoiding milk unless you have proven lactose intolerance (real lab tests not naturopath tests...). I love full fat Greek yoghurt and eat lots of eggs and have a big steak once a week (so does Crowie and he's pretty fit!)

Yea!  Snow Day!

That's a rare event in these parts.    Gonna curl up in front of the fireplace with with the furballs and sip some hot tea and catch up on my reading.       Won't do anything work related or work out related.    It's gonna be a total one day vacation.

Weather weasels seem to think that tomorrow will be the same as today or just a bit worse.   Today's a vacation so I'm not going to fret about tomorrow....

Sounds like a wonderful day, indeed!  I think the same system that gave you a snow day may give me yet another snow day on Thurs.  Mmm, enjoy your tea, fire, furballs and books; sounds so nice.

Wow, that sounds like it could be very challenging seeing as sugar has its way of sneaking into so many foods.  Good luck to you both - a 2 hour appointment, geez!
