We've got a local set of trails that we just found out has a single track that my son has been wanting to get on with mountain bikes, so I think we'll give that a go. Also need to finish all the maintenance on my boat and get that back down to the harbor and back in the water. We have crazy wind and waves here today but it's supposed to calm down for the weekend, so hopefully we can get out for some halibut. Mostly I just want to avoid people. Our Covid numbers here are skyrocketing again. They keep shutting our jury trials down, although instead of doing it for months at a time like they had before, they are doing it on about a 3-4 week rolling basis. Like others, I'm not sure I see an end in sight to this thing. My daughter told me this morning that down where we dock the boat, the numbers are even substantially higher than here where we are. Stay safe everyone!!! |

Master 8248 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! The metric century was strenuous.....3500 feet of elevation gain and one of those climbs (1500 feet) was over less than six miles, near the beginning of the ride. Lots of other shorter but still very steep hills. No covered bridges--those were only on the 100 mile ride, which would have been much of the same route but with even more hills! Surprisingly (or maybe not?) there were few takers--only two for the 100 mile ride and 11 for the metric. On the plus side, the scenery was great and there were lots of blackberries to pick and eat along the way. |

Stay safe everyone!!! Be safe up there! My husband's aunt is a nurse in Homer. She is vaccinated but tested positive last week. She had been on vacation for the previous week and the only place she went was Safeway. She is 100% positive that's where she caught it as that's the only place during the time frame she had contact with other people. |

1520 Cypress, Texas | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! Originally posted by juniperjen And, another race down. Hearing from friends that Ironman Canada is canceled. Wow! IM Canada canceled? I only get on slowtwitch a few times a year but I read the "Will IM Texas in October Get Canceled" thread over the weekend. Lots of politics. I started training for IM Texas 10 weeks ago. Not because I actually thought I would do the race but because I wanted to know what the training would be like should I ever decided to actually do a full IM. So to think that IM races are still getting canceled is sad. I wish I had a race on the calendar right now but am glad that I can challenge myself through training and not have to get caught up in race cancelations. The current phase of my training plan calls for a 3-hour IM Race Pace Bike Ride every Saturday followed by a 1-hour IM Race Pace Brick run. The bike rides are going great but the Brick Runs are not going well. I am usually good for about 20-25 minutes tops off the bike. On Saturday I got 25 minutes of running in and then did 15 minutes of walking. On that walk I was thinking that I would probably NOT do well at or enjoy a full IM and that I am probably not missing out on anything. So I am hoping this IM plan sets me up for some breakthroughs in shorter races because that is probably where all my races are going to be. The 10-weeks of IM training have flow by. It is surreal that I am completing the training. |

I am about an hour and a half from there and go there a couple times a month, especially in the summer. We have a boat docked down there so we camp and boat there often. We have avoided the public places down there as best as possible for a while now. Hope your aunt is doing ok and the vaccine helped lessen her illness. Our schools are wide open, very few limits or mandates in place, and even the ones that are do not get followed. With two teenagers and wife that is a teacher, I feel like it is only a matter of time before it is in my house. |

Yeah, i am a little surprised they haven't announced next year yet but I also assume the permits may not yet have been settled and the whole will it be Ironman or Challenge next year i am not sure has sorted out. Though the Tremblant area gets a whole side-eye from me as other triathlons have gone off in Quebec so i think it's a bit shady blaming at least the September cancellation on Public Health when it seems the town is booked and didn't want the hassle of the race. That's a bit gossipy from me but whatever. I can see results on the timing website from other races. Perhaps these are not as large and an Ironman-branded race but still. |

I am not planning the full IM until 2023, but want to do HIM next June, along with some Oly distances. I wanted to start training as early as possible, this Fall, mostly because I do mountain biking, and some running, but never together, and not enough to feel confident about IM/HIM training. |

I wanted to start training as early as possible, this Fall, mostly because I do mountain biking, and some running, but never together, and not enough to feel confident about IM/HIM training. I watched the ECO Challenge several months ago and towards the end of the event, the Iron Cowboy said that a "Deca", which he defined as ten Full Ironmans in ten days, is not as hard as the ECO Challenge. I was watching the ECO challenge on the TV thinking to myself I could totally do that race and so the comparison to 10 full ironmans in ten days was a bit of a slap in the face. I have never even done one IM let alone ten of them in ten days. I had never even trained for a full Ironman so I said why not train for one to see where my limit is. Apparently, it is at 3 hours and 25 minutes. :-) I am going to get to the four-hour mark though. :-) I am doing the TriForce 10-Hour a week plan. It was a place to start and changed up what I had been doing. :-) |

Especially on your first I would consider a different plan before saying that you would not do well at a full based on 1 day a week. I would really evaluate the whole plan. For my first, my longest stand alone run was 14 miles. I'm not saying that's ideal but there are many ways to conquer and IM! |

For my first, my longest stand alone run was 14 miles. I'm not saying that's ideal but there are many ways to conquer and IM! I am loosely following the Triforce "A Sub 10 Ironman in 10 Hours Per Week (2019)" plan. I am currently doing the following: - Monday: 1-hr TrainerRoads Bike intervals + 25min Brick Run - Tuesday: 90-minute run - Wednesday: 3,000-4,000 yd swim + afternoon 25min recovery Run (Optional) - Thursday: 90-minute TrainerRoads Endurance Ride + afternoon 25min recovery Run (Optional) - Friday: 3,000-4,000 yd swim - Saturday: 3 Hour bike (indoor or outdoor) + 1-hour Brick run - Sunday: REST I am trying to tweak things so that I get more running in. I am solid on my Tuesday morning long run, but everything else is hit and miss which I don't like. Running has changed from three 1-hour runs to a 90-minute run and 1-2 25-minute runs. The Swims have been awesome. I have been averaging about 800 yds a week for the past 4 years and now am averaging 5,000 yards a week for the past 10 weeks. My biggest fear for a full Ironman is the swim so my focus has really been to get to where I can do a 2.4 mile swim without struggling. The Bike has been an improvement too. I was doing two 60-min TrainerRoads bike rides then a 90-min to 2-hour long ride so bike volume has gone from 3.5 - 4.0 hours a week to 5-1/2 hours. Total Volume has changed from 7-1/2 hours to 10 hours. So not a huge increase but enough that I should see some additional training benefits. This is not the plan I would probably choose for my first IM race. It is just the one that I choose based on time constraints to see if I could complete an entire IM training plan. IM Texas is October 9th and IM Waco is October 23rds so I am kind of aiming to peak around that time frame but am writing the plan one week at a time based on what I learn each week. |
