His verdict most likely severe bruise to the tissue between the skin and the knee cap (I didn't think there was any but anyway) or maybe a small fracture in the knee cap, but as there is no swelling and no visible bruise this is unlikely. Xrays taken and get the results tomorrow. (Edited because I cant spell)
I'm glad you went to the doctor as that was going to be my suggestion! Hope it is just a bad bruise. What type of X-rays did you have that results aren't in immediately? Was it an MRI ?
normal x-rays but takes them an hour to send them through to the Dr and it was already nearly 4pm so back again tomorrow morning.

Yes, it was wise to report it and to go to the doctor, smart to cover your bases.  Hopefully it's nothing worse than a bruise, although that seems bad enough!  Take care and keep us posted.

Syracuse update:

LT got 10th AG and the first 3 girls took all 3 spots offered, so no rolldown.  She still had a fantastic race.

JD missed worlds by 20 seconds and obviously also had a great race.

MW had a good race and DN completed her first half!

Local pro who swims with us at Masters sometimes, Andrew Yoder, WON!!  JD told me Andrew's electronic shifters went out around mile 18, leaving him stuck in the small ring for the remainder of the race, yet he averaged 26 mph.  Incredible.  So happy for him, such a great, modest guy who deserves good things.

Just discovered strava myself after a couple of colleagues were giving each other banter about timings. It's bloody addictive!

Wow... what a weekend you all had!

Mel - to PR after all that AND have stitches??  BADAZZ!

Hands - daaaaayum, you WON your AG and got some action!  WIn/WIn!

Mary - you absolutely WILL get to the finish line of that race, and I bet you'll have the biggest smile on your face when you cross that finish line.

Jonathan - WOOOT to getting into the marathon!

Kirsten - you're sooooo ready for IM Whistler!  I can't wait to online stalk you in the non-creepy way!

Jen - what a fantastic ride!!  60 miles and the last hour of it in the rain?  You're way tougher than I am,  Rain = trainer for me

Jo - way to rock the trail race!!

Stacey - soooo happy to hear that Phil is getting better, and that he was able to bring you 2 pairs of awesome shoes, and that your knee should be a-ok after the bruising heals.

As for me??  MY FIRST PODIUM FINISH EVER happened yesterday!  It wasn't pretty, and my back was seizing like mad during the swim again, but I'm REALLY happy with both my bike and run times.  YAYYYY!!

Busy Monday morning and so much to catch up on...

Jonathan TX - YAY for getting into the Houston Marathon!!  A beer or two between now and then just might be in order, especially as recovery after those hot TX runs.  Heck, you get 'em after races, why not after a run?

Stevey - TdF volunteer?  I'm super jealous!!  Which stage(s) and what will you be doing?  I'm always glued to the TV for 3 weeks in July watching all the action.  Luckily we stream it so I'll still be able to get my training in.

Stacey - Glad you went to the doctor.  Sounds like the whinging was definitely in order.  Must have been a heck of whack you took!  Hoping for the best that it's just bruising and nothing's broken.  Take care.

Hands - Super duper race!  So what if the swim wasn't ideal.  You kicked a$$ on the bike and run and got the AG glory.  Yay!!

Jo - Way to make it through the race, even if it wasn't pretty.  Really glad you didn't hurt an ankle, even if you did go a little off-course.  Now you'll be more ready for next time.

There was a stripper cop at one point. In fluoro. I thought all the legal beagles here might like that.

So Yanti - I hope you guys are feeling better! Saw your post on FB. NOT FUN

TJ - hope you get the leg thing figured out but I LOVE doing relays - should be SUPER fun with DS2!

Mary - you're gonna kill it. If you cheer for yourself HALF as much as you cheer for everyone here......you'll inspire yourself! LOL

HOLY CRAP Melanie - PR AND a trip to Urgent Care? EPIC!! You're my hero :D

Jo/Stacey - ALS scares the hell out of me. You're right, it progresses fast and there is no cure. It's awful to watch a friend or loved one go down that road. So glad her team finished. I will go look up that story.

Jonathan - Congrats!!!

Ann Marie - HOORAY AG WIN!!! Can't wait to read the report!!

Steve - TdF?! OMG SO JEALOUS!!!

Betty - way to rock the podium!!!

Weekends are way too short - that's all I have to say on the matter!

Hope you're having a great Monday (yeah, right LOL)

Originally posted by StaceyK OK Medical advice needed (cause you know internet diagnosis is very reliable). On Tuesday of last week I whacked my knee really, really hard at work. Got up, avoided throwing up and after an hour or so it stopped throbbing. The next morning when I got up it was a bit sore but not too bad, I thought it was just bruised. I didn't do any training for the rest of the week because of other stuff. My knee felt a bit twingy every now and then but nothing bad. On Saturday I started to get this sharp stabbing pain behind the knee cap when I walked, I hadn't done any running or riding. I just figured maybe it was because it is so damn cold here. Anyway yesterday (Sunday) I went for a stroll with the dogs and afterwards it was sore again. I didn't walk fast. This morning I got on the treadmill and did an easy run/walk for 25 minutes. The sharp stabbing pain came back while I was on the treadmill but it wasn't really bad, maybe a 3/10. In the 4 hours since I got off the treadmill it has gotten much worse and now every time I take a step I get the sharp stabbing pain behind my knee cap. There is no swelling or bruise but there does feel like there is a small dent in my knee cap. Should I: a) suck it up and stop being a wimp b) give it a couple of days with no running and see how I go c) go to the Doctor and get it checked out. I have filed an incident report at work because after watching Phil have to have a knee reconstruction from a minor little trip last year I want to be covered if I have in fact done some damage to it. Thankfully the lady that handles the incident reports was in the meeting where I whacked it so that makes it a bit easier to make a claim if I need to.

My thoughts (bear in mind, I'm not a "real doctor"):

1. You might have bruised the bone

2. You chipped the bone and a piece is moving around in your knee cap

I would definitely get it checked out.  There's no harm in it and it sounds like work will cover it.

Normally, rain = trainer for me, too, but I was already on the road and 15 miles from my car.  I could have called for sag, but I think it was faster to just ride back.

Hey. Still on phone so no quoting =(

I'm doing stage 3 which is Cambridge to London. I'll be using my local knowledge to direct people to the race etc. Did you know the TDF don't use volunteers in France, and it's only this first. Time in UK they are.

I don't know strava username... Is linked to my Facebook!

Thanks Ben!!

The swim was DEFINITELY long as it was for both the sprint and the Oly, but then due to the fog that just wouldn't lift they changed the Oly course after the first 3 or so waves so that it was 2 loops of the sprint course, which made the Oly course even longer.

There were a lot of grumblings about the swim distance, but the RD made the right call to keep it safe.  You couldn't even see to the far side of the lake for most of the morning and even the kayakers couldn't see the swimmers on the back-side of the Oly swim (before they changed it) when they were right next to them.

Should've taken 11 or less...but thats a whole nother paragraph of irritation. Anyway, kids were aawesome and I'm actually happy Starbucks messed up my order just now cuz I have a grande AND a venti sitting next to me. Yesterday will soon be a dim memory.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
