Good luck to all! Yay! Swim like a fishie... or... er... a MANATEE! swim Marc swim!!! Well ya know... if we coddle them they start to get soft. Gotta toughen them up right? Sorry son, I have to disqualify you. Why ? You moved your arm on the starting block Really ? Yes.... At that point I remember French curse words running through my head. So I have improved. I took my stuff and said screw this. Went back home Then I got home and I was even more pissed, so I went back to the pool. I did the 100m, managed to not get DQ'd. managed to qualify for Masters world's that are in Montreal this year (home town). I did go talk to the ref, was very polite, but told this was supposed to be for fun, we are not at the Olympics. I really did not feel like sticking around another 3 hours for the 800 so I went home and ran I did this to gauge my swim fitness, but swim meets are really not for me. |

Well thank you! I think swim meets are something worth trying. Totally different experience. I wasn`t concerned about the `hurt`` of the event. I was concerned about diving with goggles, muffing my flip turns, and then not getting DQ`d. When I went to do the 100m someone told me I had my watch on. Good catch. I would have been DQ`d for that. It was hilarious seeing the head ref checking that this 80 year old breaststroker was touching the wall properly. Something about hands next to each other...I don`t know the rule. Like come on, give the guy a medal just for participating at 80. |

What I don't get is why you would be DQ'd for wearing your watch. I used to swim with mine on all the time it was never an issue - pacing maybe?Originally posted by mtnbikerchk Originally posted by marcag He was about 80 ! It took him 4min. Want to hear being anal ? You can't wear your watch in warm up. Apparently that is make sure you don't injure someone with your massive 910xt. I think the watch during racing is for pacing. They actually stop the pace clocks during the meet so you can't use them. |

Anyway, here's the link to my race report: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=511058&posts=1&page=1 Also, I was not sore today, but REALLY restless...so I went out for a 4.5 mile hike...I found some nifty new hiking trails nearby--they might be REALLY good for hill training and trail running! And I saw a pair of Bald Eagles! Always a treat! |

I think the watch during racing is for pacing. They actually stop the pace clocks during the meet so you can't use them. The meets I've been to don't allow any extra stuff. Probably keeps it simple. No arguing for or against what is or is not dangerous, intrusive or whatever. Get in the pool and swim, that's it. No extra stuff. I have seen the pace clocks going, but they weren't synced with the official time. Some of the things may seem harsh at first, but they are exactly the same for everyone. It's all fair. I've had some issue before with how tightly things are watched at meets. It's not easy being someone who already is rather particular about a lot of things and then finding we have to step it up another level. However, I think it is good for us as swimming is very, very technical compared to the others. Learning to watch all things more tightly can become second nature and we learn to execute better. That can carry into the things that do matter more for speed, and also into things we may not have suspected as much. |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Race didn't go as planned, but I am happy with the final result anyway. Outlook is the key for me and I try to find the good in it all. I am truly blessed to be able to do this and I hope that I continue to race with desire and happiness. If it ever stops being fun, then I'll look at it differently. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=511075&posts=1&page=1 Marc, I am really impressed with your swim meet. Who we are is so much more important than how we race. You give so much back to the community as a whole through your contributions here and elsewhere. Thank you for that example. Kate, it is really cool that you were able to race with a friend. So nice to have those shared experiences with others. Enjoy the week! |

Yeah, of the three people doing the HM, none actually did it. Myself and another girl out due to injury, and my brother didn't want to run it by himself. Sooooo we all slept in rather than getting up early and going to grab our bags and shirts and stuff. Had to do it that way, I wouldn't have lasted a mile, as it currently stands. |
