GOOD LUCK RACING MANATEES!!!!!!!!!

*********************************

Got some work done on my fit today. My buddies at Cobb Cycling hooked me up with some shorter cranks and changed saddles from Max to Plus. Can't wait to take it out this weekend.

Racing Manatees!

February 15-16
Jen - Viniterra Race for the Chocolate on Saturday
Janyne - Myrtle Beach Marathon on Saturday
Chris - Tampa Flatwoods Ramble on Sunday
Erin - IMS Arizona Marathon on Sunday
Tom - IMS Arizona Half Marathon on Sunday
Kate - Escape From Folsom 10 Miler run on Sunday
David - Mooloolaba swim?

Disabled list:
Darren - shin splits and calf pain
Ann-Marie - under the weather

LOVING this big race listing for the weekend!  Although it is mostly our warm climate manatees racing, it still gives me hope that warmer/nicer weather is surely around the corner!

GOOOOO MANATEES!!!  Have fun and do what you do best!  Good luck to all!

One cold weather 'racer' here. I have trouble using that term when referring to my swim. I swim the 100m, 200m and 800m tomorrow. Long course meters. Gulp!

Yay! Swim like a fishie... or... er... a MANATEE!

I thought at first you were telling him to swim WITH the fishies and thought you were continuing the mean streak you began with your son's bike

swim Marc swim!!!

Well ya know... if we coddle them they start to get soft. Gotta toughen them up right?

Wait, there was a bike in that pic?

Still sending lots of love, strength, and prayers to all who knew Sherri and Alisha.

Well that was fun! NOT !

Did the 200m freestyle. Did a PB by 4secs. Qualified for worlds by 4 sec. Wow. Happy ! (for 30 seconds)

Nice man in white, walks up to me.
Marc ?
Yes.....
Sorry son, I have to disqualify you.
Why ?
You moved your arm on the starting block
Really ?
Yes....

At that point I remember French curse words running through my head.

So I have improved. Not only in my 200m, but in my ability to not lose it!

Swimming sucks :-)

Thanks. I was really pissed . I took my stuff and said screw this. Went back home
Then I got home and I was even more pissed, so I went back to the pool.
I did the 100m, managed to not get DQ'd. managed to qualify for Masters world's that are in Montreal this year (home town).

I did go talk to the ref, was very polite, but told this was supposed to be for fun, we are not at the Olympics.

I really did not feel like sticking around another 3 hours for the 800 so I went home and ran

I did this to gauge my swim fitness, but swim meets are really not for me.

Well thank you!
I think swim meets are something worth trying. Totally different experience.
I wasn`t concerned about the `hurt`` of the event. I was concerned about diving with goggles, muffing my flip turns, and then not getting DQ`d.
When I went to do the 100m someone told me I had my watch on. Good catch. I would have been DQ`d for that.

It was hilarious seeing the head ref checking that this 80 year old breaststroker was touching the wall properly. Something about hands next to each other...I don`t know the rule. Like come on, give the guy a medal just for participating at 80.

yep give him a medal for still being able to do it at 80, but just so you know the rule is (or was) that both hands much touch the wall and they have to be level, not one higher than the other. What I don't get is why you would be DQ'd for wearing your watch. I used to swim with mine on all the time it was never an issue - pacing maybe?

There was a guy over 90 doing the 100m free. It took him 4min.

Want to hear being anal ? You can't wear your watch in warm up. Apparently that is make sure you don't injure someone with your massive 910xt.

I think the watch during racing is for pacing. They actually stop the pace clocks during the meet so you can't use them.

I had a great time at my trail run yesterday--I was slower than last year, but I did slow down as I ran with a friend for a good portion of the race...I really should not be so friendly!  Anyway, here's the link to my race report: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=511058&posts=1&page=1

Also, I was not sore today, but REALLY restless...so I went out for a 4.5 mile hike...I found some nifty new hiking trails nearby--they might be REALLY good for hill training and trail running! And I saw a pair of Bald Eagles! Always a treat!

The meets I've been to don't allow any extra stuff. Probably keeps it simple. No arguing for or against what is or is not dangerous, intrusive or whatever. Get in the pool and swim, that's it. No extra stuff. I have seen the pace clocks going, but they weren't synced with the official time.

Some of the things may seem harsh at first, but they are exactly the same for everyone. It's all fair. I've had some issue before with how tightly things are watched at meets. It's not easy being someone who already is rather particular about a lot of things and then finding we have to step it up another level. However, I think it is good for us as swimming is very, very technical compared to the others. Learning to watch all things more tightly can become second nature and we learn to execute better. That can carry into the things that do matter more for speed, and also into things we may not have suspected as much.

Race didn't go as planned, but I am happy with the final result anyway.  Outlook is the key for me and I try to find the good in it all. I am truly blessed to be able to do this and I hope that I continue to race with desire and happiness. If it ever stops being fun, then I'll look at it differently.

Marc, I am really impressed with your swim meet. Who we are is so much more important than how we race. You give so much back to the community as a whole through your contributions here and elsewhere. Thank you for that example.

Kate, it is really cool that you were able to race with a friend. So nice to have those shared experiences with others.

Enjoy the week!

JJ - love the bike fitting pic!

Marc - I'm terribly impressed by anyone who does swim meets.  This goes double for Ben and Yanti!  Me, I'd look like Eric Moussambani :-/

Kate - Congrats on your trail run!

Chris - Let's hear it for the Races Not Going as Planned Club!  I hope that your ankle is doing better today.  (Hey, Kevin saw something about some moutain bike trails going in Myakka.   Is that convenient to you?)

Judi, I'm continuing to think of you and your family.  {{hugs}}

I hope that all of the other Manatees are doing well!  I found Erin's time on the race website -- sub 5!  I think that Tom ended up not doing the HM.  Did David do the swim?

First off, thank you for all the inspires and happy thoughts and virtual cheers for this weekend's awesome experience. I'm getting started on RR soon.

I didn't do as well as I'd hoped, but aside from a couple of things that were out of my control, I am very happy with my overall performance. 4:55 was finish time.

Tom didn't run HM because of knee, so we couldn't do a race meet up.

Hope everyone else's races went well and Valentine's weekend was fun.

Looking forward to the RR!

Yeah, of the three people doing the HM, none actually did it.  Myself and another girl out due to injury, and my brother didn't want to run it by himself.  Sooooo we all slept in rather than getting up early and going to grab our bags and shirts and stuff.  Had to do it that way, I wouldn't have lasted a mile, as it currently stands.
