Saturday morning, J and I drove down to Mt. Lemmon for an exploratory/experimental ride. It's about 26mi to the top...because of inexperience and planning hiccups only did 9. We took the mtn bikes (won't do it when we try the whole climb) and checked out a side road when we turned around.  Found out there's ruins of a Japanese prison camp from WWII...no walls because they figured no one was stupid enough to try to "escape" into the AZ desert. Anyway, haven't had a Strava ride that looked like this in a long time, 2469ft of climb

Yesterday we took the kids out for a trail drive/hike. Beautiful views at our stopping point, and then we came across a sign for the Arizona Trail, an 800mi section of the Great Western Loop that goes from Mexico to Utah. It also runs along the Mt. Lemmon road from Saturday's ride. I told J it would be fun to ride the mtn bikes up the road, then take the trail down sometime.

Totally had fun--even though it was the slowest HM I have ever done.  Had to walk from mile 9 forward cause my achilles went crazy.  But I walked it in and finished.

Sorry you ran into difficulties   Good job finishing...I probably would've taken the riders up on their offer, going my way or not. lol

Woohoo! You showed him your blazing neon finishing speed.

Congrats on the win.  First OA is great.  I got into a tactical race for OA last year and it is a totally different feeling than being back in the pack.  Lots of fun.

Now that sounds like a great race - there is no way one could get bored while running if there was reenactments along the course! I'll have to tell DH about this as he is a history teacher and would love to run a race like this.

During the Boulder 70.3 last year there were some guys on horses and I asked for a ride. They said no. How rude, right?

Glad you have your priorities straight Congrats on both!

Saturday's race went great through the first two miles and then my achilles tendon started to ache.  Backed off but was really sore later in the day.  Sunday I could hardly walk.  Today I'm walking but with a limp.  Still too early to see how long this is going to slow me down.  Hopefully I can walk without a limp in a day or two and when that happens I can start some very slow jogging.  I've been through this many times over the years.  In more recent episodes it has healed pretty fast.  I think that is a function of recognizing what it is when it starts to develop and shutting down early.  Looks like some swim/bike focus for a while which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Actually, I think that the 100 miler is just proof that some people will do anything to get out of last minute wedding stuff, even sit on a trainer for 5:41:48!

HAHAHA it's terrible when BOTH spouses-to-be are doing stuff like that that's why we fobbed all our wedding stuff off on other people (because we would be happy with any occasion where people we like show up and there's food). Like poor Stace Face!

GO MISSISSIPPEE ... welcome to the ultimate endurance event.

Ha!  Thanks.  I just thought I was getting away from things with that long ride.  Turns out that 5:41:48 gives my fiance time to create a looooooong to do list!

WOOT!! CONGRATS!

Welcome to Marathon Monday!!

little story: When I was in college I shared a suite with 4 members of the cross country running team. COMPLETELY ironic because back then I would do anything to avoid running.

Fast forward to today - roughly 20 **cough** years later....one of said roommantes ran Boston today. She ran a 2:50. TWO FREAKIN FIFTY?! Psyched for her and I get to say "I knew her when....." Bummer though in that caliber of runners it "only" earns her 5th in her AG ~LOL

Have a great day everyone. ME? I'm going to go home after work, sit my a$$ on the couch and try to catch up on 30some odd pages of manatee mayhem!

Dag, I'll bet that thing is fast, being orange and all.  Getting it to and from a race might be a bit of a headache though.

This 150 mile ride went past my house on Sunday. Riders must ride in pairs, pass through each check point with their buddy and withdraw as a pair if required. I saw a couple on a tandem road bike doing it.

(I live around the 2 category 5 climbs, hence why I ride on my trainer )

That's one way to make sure you don't drop your buddy!

I always admire people who can ride tandems together.  I'm positive that DH and I would get into a fight if we tried to do that.  We don't fight much, but that--no way.  We've tried tango and swing dance lessons together and we both ended up saying (rather heatedly), "I can't dance with you.  Go dance with somebody else."

There is a couple in my area that ride a tandem all the time.  Impressive to see them out cause they are beast when they get going.  That said, a tandem ti bike in carbon....would not want to guess on a price tag cause it would be way out of my pay grade.

Yanti, if you had one of these to be Kingsley's guide could you keep from wrecking it?

LOL

There were two pairs doing the full 104mi Barn Burner tandem last year in Flagstaff. We all agreed they were crazy...and probably not couples outside of riding

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
