DL heal up mkay? It's nice to see MaryS on the race list rather than the DL!!!!! It sounds like a nice way to get a looonnnnggg run in FWIW, I figure that we list events and races both -- events like TdC and BikeMS and century rides and, what one friend calls, "cookie rides." Maybe you have an event this weekend and not a race ;-) |

We got two new team members at work. One was a bike mechanic in his previous life and the other is a runner! Our little team now has 4 runners (we run M/W/F together.) That's so cool that you have people at work you can connect with on another level and train with. BTW I lovelovelove the citrus green tea latte. Now I actually have to decide what I want when I go to Sbux. Used to be pretty set with flat whit in the morning and chai or peachgreentealemonade in the afternoon. Ah man, did I ask you if you tried the holiday spice flat white over Christmas? I haven't tried the citrus green. My daily has been Sumatra or Casi Cielo on the Clover, in fact I am on my way to make one now. I did try it. Didn't care for it. Too... spice laden, I guess, for me. I still haven't tried a Clover!!!!!!!!! |

That doesn't seem right, guess I will have to look for more races! Have fun with your long run/race! And Mary, I echo TJ, wish I was racing Zion too! Good luck Connor! Heal up DLers!! It seems that this setup is bad for SBUX runs! Clearly, you must rectify the situation! True, without any recovery or taper weeks I will actually have to run for an entire planned workout! Yikes! Must start the race search now!! |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed Originally posted by jmkizer Yep I think I paid $50 for my photo chromatic ones and $30 for my orange tint ones. I only buy versions of the "Predator Flex" I find they fit me really well and are a good midway point between open water masks and the tiny "swimmer" ones. Originally posted by StaceyK Originally posted by juniperjen I love my Zoggs Preditors. I have a couple of pairs, one of which is a really great photo chromatic pair that changes tint strength depending on the amount if light. They are great for racing in especially on partly cloudy days. Originally posted by jmkizer Originally posted by Hot Runner Yep. I swear I run on adrenaline for entire school terms sometimes. On breaks I will happily sleep 10-11 hours a night. I normally get 7-8, but apparently my body would really like a bit more than that. Can also be a hormone thing for me--not sure about other women, though. As for goggles (too lazy to scroll back and see who asked), I swear by the Speedo Futura Biofuse. Have never found other goggles that consistently fit and don't leak too soon. Most of my Futuras have lasted over a year. I've always struggled with goggle fit as I have a smallish head but big eyes--men's goggles often are too big, but with "women's" models, the lenses don't comfortably fit over my eyes. Worst are those triangular shaped OWS goggles that TYR and Blue Seventy make--they just don't match up with my face bones at all. No leaking but super uncomfortable. Plus the eyes always seem to be too far apart on the men's models and too close together on the women's. I have fit issues with pretty much everything tri-related--suits, bikes, goggles--sometimes wonder if I was just made with the wrong pattern, or something! I've been using the Aqua Sphere Kaiman Lady with good success. I get maybe six months out of them. I was starting to feel like the Kaiman's were a problem because everyone seems to carry the Kayenne so this time I am giving the Kayenne a shot -- and not having a lot of success. The seal OK but the are too close to my eyelashes. It's odd. Anyway, I'll be going back to the Kaiman's sooner rather than later. See, all the different face shapes. I love the Kayenne's but my problem is getting to a store that sells them. I need a few pool items and not one place that i can buy online has everything i want. Hmmm. SwimOutlet has some pink ones for $6. Might be a good way to try them out before investing in them. The Zoggs are kinda pricey... The trick to making goggles and swim caps last is to buy quality and always, always rinse them in fresh water when you are finished swimming (chuck them on the floor when you shower after your swim) then dry them and put them back in their bag or case before you put them in your swim bag. My current goggles are 2 and 3 years old and still look and feel like new, ok granted I don't swim that often but even when I was a kid and a swam for an hour plus a day 6 days a week my goggles always lasted well over 12 months. |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed Ok so beware this post is a brag about my friend K. As some of you know she saw the bling for the Disney Dopey Challenge and she decided that we are going to do it in 2018! K currently weighs around 250 pound, but she has started running, she is losing weight and despite some medical issues she has been fairly consistent with her training. She is doing 2:30 minutes run 1 minute walk intervals at present. Well today she did 7.14km, in 1:09:59. I am so proud of her I could cry and I just needed to tell some people who would understand her achievement. We are going to do a 10k together on 3rd April, I need to get training so I don't die! 310 Raleigh, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed Originally posted by juniperjen Originally posted by jmkizer Originally posted by Atlantia Thanks Pod for all the input on goggles. I have a different pair of Vanquishers in my bag, so I wore those at the pool today. They didn't feel as tight, so I didn't have all the awful pain on the inside corners of my eyes...but they leaked more. Hmmm. Maybe I'll grab another pair of cheaper ones just to test out another shape. I wish there were more places that sold goggles in store...buying goggles online is not fun. Stace - you were asking about how I lost the weight? I'm afraid its a really boring story involving a food scale and meticulous logging on myfitnesspal. CICO isn't fun, requires patience, and is decidedly unsexy when it comes to water cooler conversation, but it works for me! That's how I lost weight too. I don't think that it's CICO so much as awareness of what I was putting in my mouth. Also, I made a "what happens on the bike stays on the bike" rule for longer rides when I was in weight loss mode because I didn't want to not eat on the bike (if that makes sense). I lost about 80 pounds doing that and, knock wood, have kept it off. (see also, who is that fat lady with my puppy Emma?) That is great for both of you! Really an awesome accomplishment - Janyne - i had no idea! I think that's how it is with many things - nothing fancy it's really about boring focus and repetition. People ask me all the time about how i didn't when i learned to swim as an adult and basically it was deciding to do it and getting in the pool more than once a week ... OMG, 80 pounds! I had no idea either. Wow, good for you! Hoping to get off the DL soon. Trying my first run since the injury (bike and swim both went well). If all goes well, I'll be off the DL and back to regular training Monday. Good luck racers!!!! |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed Brag here since this is probably the only group of people I know who might appreciate it--I finally broke 200 on a 20-minute FTP test this morning. 206. That really, really hurt! Probably sounds quite pathetic to a lot of guys and even bigger women, but those watts are coming out of a 115 pound body. Thought my engine would overheat and explode! |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed Thanks....3.93 watts/kg. Guess 4 could be my next goal. Though as someone in our tri club used to mock me, it's kind of a matter of "No weight, no power!" I'm an awesome climber, and that's about it. On a flat course, there will still be plenty of guys and bigger women flying past like I'm standing still. Although I do much of my racing in SE Asia where most of the Asian women aren't much heavier, and some even less than 100 pounds, so not at such a disadvantage in absolute power, except against other expats. Just hope this translates into some actual speed on the road. The bike has always been my weakest leg by far, probably due to body type and relative lack of experience. I pretty much have the body build of an elite marathoner and a big run background (but alas, not the speed, at least now) and decent swim technique, so those two tend to be at/near the top of my AG in most races, but that's really been zero help in biking. (In my first OlyI was 123rd out of 136 on the bike. Really!) Developing the strength to push bigger gears has really been an uphill battle! |

Are there any hilly races you could do that will play to your strengths? I think a trip to alp d'huez tri is in order |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed Around here, sadly, pretty much all the races I can get to are pancake-flat. Crosswinds off the ocean are common so you have lots of petite women and lighter guys trying to ride bucking bronco tri bikes. Some rolling courses at home. Alpe de Huez is definitely on my bucket list. I believe it also involves a half-marathon at altitude--I am not super-fast but am, for some reason, an altitude animal. My only concern would be freezing to death on the swim--I've heard that some years they have to fish people out due to hypothermia. And there's something weird about it, like they release water from a dam and you swim downriver?? Sounds more like a salmon migration than a tri swim! I guess that would at least speed things up, although it might be even harder to "swim fast enough to get warm", which rarely works in my case anyway. Or maybe I misunderstood the video I watched. |

270 | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed I wouldn't say unfortunately. My race today had tons of hills, and it was pretty awful. Anyway, I guess I haven't completely recovered from my cold yet. When I get a respiratory problem, which I had in addition, it doesn't just disappear within a few days. My swim was slowed a little because of breathing problems. My bike was okay, but I felt a little bit weaker. The run was the worst, though. I was about a minute per mile off of my goal pace. At least I have spring break to rest and heal up before my next race. |
