Yeah, looks like a huge dumping of rain as the storm does the old "sit and spin" right over us. I vote for an "east of I-95" event. :-(

I did notice that yesterday they had it coming ashore at Cape Fear and today it looks like Cape Lookout. I'm pretending that it matters. the storm is wider than the 275-mile NC coast!

My parents were mandatory evacuated from Charleston, where the storm is most likely not going to Raleigh, were the storm is most likely going to have some kind of impact.

Is anyone else racing?

How do we feel about Rev3 apparently folding? IM CT and IM VA are now listed on the Ironman site. Of couse Rev3 Old Orchard Beach is already IM Maine. I know that some of you have done Rev3 Williamsburg and Rev3 Quassy. I never did Williamsburg because the dates never made sense to me -- too hot.

This came up because I am interested in doing Kinetic HIM again next year and IM VA is on the date that one would expect Kinetic to be held (Mother's day weekend). Personally, I kind of hate the lack of choice for long distance tris.

NC area folks, this situation also pointed out to me what outsiders FS Series must be -- launching the Crystal Coast Full Booty and Half Booty on the same dates as IM VA/Kinetic.

Another nice list of races and racers!  I hope Robin P's race is not cancelled!  I am very intrigued by the Beat the Blerch run!!

I checked and so far Robin's race has not been cancelled. Whether she wants to do it or not is another matter!

I thought REV3 was not completely folding, just getting out of the long distance stuff. Either way, I'm sorry to see them go for a couple of reasons: I prefer more options for long distance tris (though I may never do one again!); and I really liked them! REV3 had a 3 year presence in the Sarasota area of Florida -specifically Venice, Chris's neck of the woods.  For those years they had the 70.3 and olympic distance ; i did the 70.3 both years, although the 2d year there was no swim b/c of hurricane Sandy.  I thought they put on a great race, were super easy to deal with, and had way better post race food and beer than WTC! I was sorry to see them go, but believe they had a hard time getting racers away from Miamiman . Miamiman -my first 70.3, is also a super well run race put on by a great organization. It's been around forever and is usually the race people target for a late season (November) 1/2. It may be part of the reason IM70.3 Miami folded too.  

Anyway, back on topic - I'm sorry to see REV3 struggle and if they ever come to Florida again I will probably race with them.

Did anyone else get the e-mail from WTC about IM 70.3 Florida and that it now has a relay division?  I didn't think WTC did relays, so wonder if they are having to drum up racers themselves (it's not just REV3).  I think the relay will be a big hit - I've already reached out to one potential teammate!

I never saw an announcement about Rev3, just saw that some of their flagship events were listed as Ironman events. I'm sure that you are right and they are continuing in a different direction. I'd prefer that we had more choices for long course events. That's all.

I got an email from them saying something to the effect they had sold certain races to WTC, but weren't going away completely, we'd hear more later. Agree we need more choices!

IIRC, Rev3 was sold to the Challenge Family a while back, never changed brands, and is now back in the hands of Rev3. If that makes sense. The whole thing points out the strangle hold that WTC has.  Also, IMO, long course is often a "bucket list" type of race, although a number of you in here fly in the face of that statement. So, people that are in the bucket list category are going to go after the biggest and best experience. And I don't think that any other company has the history or culture or whatever you want to call it. It is sad to me, since Rev3 and a few others could offer things a bit differently and I would think they could be successful. But alas, such is not the case, evidently.

Anne-Marie - I guess WTC is implementing relays at 70.3 races?  Both last year and this year there were relay options at LP 70.3.

WTC definitely knows their stuff and runs a very organized race.  However, IMO, Rev3 offers an experience that is on par with WTC from an organized point of view but adds in more racer-friendly pieces that are nice: cold, wet towels to keep after hot races (I'm looking at you, Williamsburg!), good food, a more approachable, friendly feel/atmosphere.  Most Rev3 events I've been to have beer tents on site for post-race (which isn't for everyone but it's a nice addition for those who want to celebrate with a cold one).  I tend to get a more 'just business' vibe from WTC events which has its pros and cons.

I was sad to see Quassy and Williamsburg sold off to WTC, especially since I've done both of those races.  Quassy was my first Olympic and Williamsburg was where I met Judi (QueenZipp) in person (*sniff*, I'm getting emotional, lol).
