Total Time = 4h 51m 40s
Overall Rank = 605/1889
Age Group = m 30-35
Age Group Rank = 98/229
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:15 AM, had some coffee and an eggo. Went in the J22 van with jamie to the race site and set up transition
Event warmup:

I mile walk up the beach to swim start with wetsuit on. Got there, found out swim was cancelled, so walked 1 mile back to transition and changed into running shoes, then walked about a mile to the run start and waited for my wave to start (wave 12)
Swim
  • 15m 52s
  • 3696 yards
  • 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good run. I felt strong in this run and had plenty left in the tank. I was dissapointed that the swim was cancelled, but they ultimatley did the right thing for safety
What would you do differently?:

nada
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

this is the first ever rune to bike transition, so I was happy with it.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 2h 30m 40s
  • 56 miles
  • 22.30 mile/hr
Comments:

My best ride ever. I actually averaged around 21.5 as the course was about a mile short. I actually rode smart and paced myself just right, being on the conservative side so I can survive the run portion. I still managed to pull out a great bike split. Nutrition was spot on too.
What would you do differently?:

nothing. Just keep riding and get some wheels and an aero helmet
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

I was a little slow here just because I decided to take a few extra seconds to sip some accelerade and finish my gel flask. Everything else was on target- no fumbling around.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Just more exprience will make me more efficient
Run
  • 2h 02m 16s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Started out running low 8:00's and decided to dial it back a little to have a push towards the end. Slipped back to Just under 9's and stayed there for the first 7 miles. I walked through the aid stations to ensure good hydration. Around mile 8 my achilles started hurting and was progressively getting worse very quickly. I ended up trotting the last 4 miles at a 10 plus pace. My goal was just to finish this run without walking as I had some bad memories of Gulf Coast. the last .3 miles were brutal because of about 100 yards of soft sand to run in- which really sucked because of the achilles and very wet shoes.
I was pretty pleased with this run. I don't feel I hit close to where my potential is on a HIM run, but a major improvement despite the achilles pain.
I did finish feeling pretty good and knew I had a great overall finishing time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I think the extra walking in the sand and running probably did not help, but I hit my goal.
Post race
Warm down:

Root beer, shower tent, water, then cold delicious beer! Cheered in the rest of the racers and had some pizza

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Soreness in the achilles was my only limiter today. Still overacheived what I planned

Event comments:

Good race. I hated that they turned it into a DU, but safety should always come first so they made the right call. I thought the volunteers were great and the course was fun and fast. My only major complaint was the cramped space for thew amount of athletes. I truly think they outgrew this venue. A little dissapointed in the perceived quality of this race being an IM branded race I though it was a little lacking in several areas. That said I really had a great time racing with lots of fun people on a fun course and that's what is most important.

Nice race.  Your "old" P2K was there racing this weekend as well.  I wish I would have known you were there I would have looked for you.

What a great weekend! I am with you on the Du thing, but it was done for safety. Thanks for the great meals while we were up there, I wish I could afford to hire you to cook for me all the time.

LTF ride tonight if you are interested.

Great job on the race!

On a race weekend that had a lot of "bummers" (expo, swim cancellation, etc.), you and J.Corn made my weekend.  Thanks for playing co-driver and chef.

The one time I saw you on the course you looked great.  I am really impressed with your bike split.  Just think how much faster you are going to be with a set of tri-spokes and Renn Disc (once I find a Powertap setup that I like).  Great job on rocking out your A race.

Now get that ankle healed up so you can rock out your first mary.

Nice job out there despite the obstacles that were thrown at us.  I still can't believe the bike split you threw down.  That is awesome.  Thanks so much for the cheffing again.  It always is nice to have that thought in your head on the run that you are going to be rewarded with beer and awesome grub afterwards.  IM Germany/Switzerland 2010???

You did awesome!  Great pace on the bike and long run!  I wonder what all the times would be with the swim.  I guess we'll wait till next year to see how much more azz we'll all kick!  Thanks for feeding us too, that was a great bonus as always!
