Total Time = 1h 40m 31s
Overall Rank = 482/1154
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 10/48
Pre-race routine:

Up @ 4, in the car by 4:45 w/a Pam'd wetsuit and cup of coffee. Had a smoothie before we left. Got to the res around 5:40 and waited in line til body marking started. Got set up in transition, then had over an hour to kill before transition closed.
Event warmup:

Test rode my bike, thank God, because it took me 3 tries to get my back wheel in properly. Something wrong there -- every time I crank hard it pops out. Then did some running hill repeats to get the lungs and heart going. Finally headed to the beach, peed several times, sometimes not in my wetsuit, warmed up. Drank a bottle of sports drink and had a gel.
Swim
  • 20m 8s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

This swim was a success for me. My only goal was to swim dammit and no freaking out, no breast stroke, no inhaling waves. I did it. Only stopped when I got kicked in the goggles -- hard. That freaking hurt.
What would you do differently?:

Move farther to the front to start and let people pass me rather than be in the middle of the melee. And learn how to swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

My gear was at the far end of the transition area. Got thru easily, just took a while to get there. 14th of 48 AG.
What would you do differently?:

Push to go a little faster.
Bike
  • 51m 51s
  • 17 miles
  • 19.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Lots of passing. Hammered on the reservoir road to pass as many as possible. Aero for most of the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

I was parked right by bike in -- nice. 1st place! We were racked by our wave so I don't know how my T2 was fastest.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 25m 37s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

No garmin so had no idea of pace, just focused on cadence and making sure I was pushing hard enough to be breathing hard. would have guessed my pace was slower than this.
What would you do differently?:

Start my kick sooner, because once I got going it felt good.
Post race
Warm down:

Wander around looking for Ted and friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hurt my knee a month ago so haven't been running much at all.

Event comments:

Fun race, good beer, fun seeing everyone. Serious athletes racing!! Happy to come in tied for 10th. Felt good to have taken 2 days off before the race since I was no longer fatigued today.

Sounds like you had a good race (aside from the foot to the face), congratulations!  I want to know how to get through T2 in 40 seconds, that rocks!

Great job!

Speedy you even with time off of running.

Very competitive area you live in..sounds like a super well run race. Is it that the one that WTC just bought?
