![]() Swim
Comments: Very rough currents and choppy. currents weren't even consistent throughout the distance. sometimes pulled me out further and sometimes brought me towards the beach. What would you do differently?: Never race in Key Biscayne again. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Did well in T1. No problems. Very tired from fighting currents, drinking saltwater and running in the soft sand. Had basin of water to take sand off feet before getting into shoes (sockless) What would you do differently?: nothing ![]() Bike
Comments: Kind of tough going up bridge on the way out. Heading down it on the other side was awesome...hit 38 with a slight tailwind. Unfortunately, we only had about 100 yards after the bottom of the hill where we had to make a u-turn. Now with a headwind, we had ~100 yards to gain momentum to get up that hill again. AAAAGGGGHHHHHHH!! Going down it was only able to get to 27 with the headwind. What would you do differently?: Train hills. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Had a tough time getting my knee brace on. Then when I put my right shoe on, the insole bunched up in the toe so I had to take the whole thing off again, fix the insole and start over. Other than that, fine. What would you do differently?: Use the other knee brace. Don't know what to do about the insole problem. It's never happened before. ![]() Run
Comments: Felt pitiful the whole time. The bike really took it out of me. Very negative. Started slogging out of transition and going on the run, wondering why I wasn't walking. then my mind's eye kept seeing Fromer's messages, ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK! Then I picked up the pace, afraid of what Fromer would say if I reported that I walked. NNNOOOOOOOOO!!!! Feeling my left quad getting REAL tired, but couldn't stop. Fromer was pushing me the whole time. DRAT, that Fromer!!!! What would you do differently?: Have Fromer there for real to push me harder! ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked a lot, had change of clothes and toiletries kit so I could shower and feel fresher. What limited your ability to perform faster: Wasn't mentally prepared for the race. Was feeling negative about it the days leading up to it, and didn't psych myself up for it. Event comments: There were 3 races at this event...the oly, a sprint, and a duathlon. Unfortunately, by the time we finished the oly, there was no food left so all I got was 1/2 a bagel and some water. Last updated: 2005-04-28 12:00 AM

Got up at 3:30, had stuff ready just had to pump bike tires and put everything into van. had power bar, made coffee and had bottle of water. Did some stretching and checked weather channel. Left at 4:10 for race.
Minimal. Didn't do any running or biking (big mistake), but did do some swimming to get used to the water.
