Renee has a good idea, afterall...on the training log discussions there is some talk about making it easier to get current "challenge" standings from one spot, instead of each log individually.

I agree with Renee. I say we donate money to Ron. Without him, none of us would be on here when we should be on the road training

Count me in on the challenge. I need to get serious about my training. I haven't done squat this Spring due to the cold and rainy weather here in Ohio. It's finally starting to warm up and be sunny, so I need to step up to the plate.

Quick question while we're deciding what does/(n't) count.  Will my time and mileage (on off-road trails, etc.) on my MTB count? I can measure it and it's outdoors, and it's not like I'm lolly-gagging. Just curious.

If they are like a lot of guys around here, no.
Since they take the chair lift up and ride down!

I'll get it started this evening, or tomorrow at the latest. Looks like we've worked through some of the ideas...

my votes:

  • losing team gives donation to ron for BT.com.
  • teams chosen by some sort of random method.
  • winner - the team that reached their goal, overall as done with the swim challenge.

I'm not sure I'll get the mileage I got in May.  I have jury duty, and vacation coming up.  I'm not sure if the bikes are coming with us or not.

Vacation is the best with your bike!

I got 150+ of my miles in 3 days of riding on vacation.  It's great what you can do when you don't have to work during the day.

We'll see what Bear comes up with, but it sounds good to me so far.

2nd Nikki's post.  Personally would like to see more than 2 teams....maybe 5-8 people per team...something manageable from a blog inspire standpoint.  While having 15+ team mates to inspire is fun, it dramatically cuts into the time that I'm supposed to be working at work.   Losers still donate fundage.

Hmmmm...I could never imagine thousands of people riding hundreds of miles in July.  Where would one host an event such as this?

I'd be interested too, but don't know if I could do my max month + 20% (though I only been blogging for three months so my max month isn't recorded in my blogs). I'd like to set my goal myself because of where I am in my training/racing schedule. I think we can all be realistic with our goals. I promise no sandbagging.

I also second the vote for proceeds going to BT/Ron.

Jen

Not sure if this is smart this month, considering my plan is rather light on the bike, but I want in, too!

My vote is also for a team format. If we could do regional teams, that would be great! It might even inspire me to finally do a group ride!

Only Iowegans, I am afraid (or those with connections to Iowegans)

Life doesn't get any better than crossing the state with a bunch of bike-loving people. For one whole week BIKES RULE!!!! All you have to do is get up in the morning, get dressed and hop on your bike and get from point A to point B (with about 9,000 other people)

I just love to see the State Patrol stopping traffic to allow us to go FIRST!!!! :) :)

Oh, Iowa in July doesn't get any better...........

I would love to join if you'll have me - Please let me count trainer rides also (It's winter here!). I really need a kick to get going and this might be just what makes me ride again and ride lots! It's my weakest leg.
Keep us posted. M
