Why can't it stop raining/ thunderstorms/ tornado warning //// in the chicagoland area.  Waterboarding or 3 hrs on the trainer, I don't know.  Lets hope next weekend is better.  I'm up to 4 on my long ride

Try 5.5hrs on the trainer.... Did all my rides for IMSG on the trainer besides 2... Spring weather has been really crappy in NE Ohio!

I'm actually enjoy riding on the trainer. I've completed quite a few 5.5 hour trainer rides over the last few years. Set up your fans, put in a few movies and start riding.

Good job on the 5.5 hrs. No way I could do that. 3 hours of that torture is my limit!

I only do 2 to 3 hr. rides on the trainer.  I find it harder on the legs to do 3 hrs then 4.5 hrs on the road.  I have a table set up that I can surf the web or watch movies  I even read.  If you do it enough then you will get used to it.

All of you are more hardcore than me!  My limit is about 90 minutes.  Beyond that, it's not worth it.

In 2009 training for IMCdA, I did one 3hr ride on the trainer and I vowed to never do that again.

If you are committed (or condemned...) to long sessions indoors, I'd recommend looking into some rollers.  I find the tedium to be a little easier to deal with on rollers and others have reported the same.  It is arguably more similar to riding outdoors than riding on rollers.  (Mind you, when I just want to slay myself mindlessly indoors, I go for the trainer.  For longer 'rides' indoors, however, I always choose the rollers.)

I rode 5 hours yesterday on wet roads with intermittent rain. I can't even begin to imagine more than a couple hours on the trainer. My hat's off to those who can do it.

x2. I hate the trainer. I also hate the rain. But I hate the trainer more.

The computrainer is my godsend...did 90% of my rides for IMLP on that thing, including 2 6 hour rides.  Let me tell you how beautiful the real course is compared to my basement...something about that which does not kill me only makes me stronger...lol

I feel you!

It's been really crappy in the Chicagoland area lately. I spent 2 1/2 on my trainer this weekend at 75-80% FTP. I was spent! Props to you guys spending 3+ hours! Hopefully the weather reports are wrong for this weekend.

Ditto.  I will do anything I can to avoid that long on the trainer...rearrange the schedule, bundle up, whatever...my butt's trainer limit is maybe 2 hours...and only rarely will I ever want to go over 1:30.

Longest I've done is 3, and I agree, it was just brutal.

I too live in the Chicagoland area, and last weekend wasn't exactly the best weather to be riding outdoors.  This weekend will be warmer, but raining.  I guess I can suck it up and rude in the rain, if it's warm.  I have a 5 hour ride scheduled this weekend...we'll see how that goes.

Props to all of you that can mash the pedals for hour on end on the trainer.

I live in the corn fields.  I don't mind wet that much but wet mixed with 30 mph crosswinds is not a good combo.

90 miles in the rain last weekend high of 49 in Wisconsin. I was soaked and freezing. Can't quit if you don't know how to get back to the start...lol.

The longest that I have done was 2.5 hours - but that was in the winter before training started.  A bunch of us in Michigan get together in the off season and hold trainerfests where we all bring our bikes/trainers and pot luck food to pass.  We ride and eat and have a blast.

Trainers suck, but trainers with 15 of your friends is a whole other ball game!

Just finished 6:15 on the trainer, rode the IMCDA loop twice on my computrainer.

Ain't gonna lie, really wanted off that bike at the end.

I love endurance cycling, but count me in the 'hate-the-trainer' crowd.  Only did just over 1hr last PM (Z2 spin) & that was PLENTY.  Fans, movies, music, whatever- 60-90min is still my mental limit.

My survival strategy for a 3 hour trainer ride:

1. Movie or TV show that I know is going to be engaging.  Nothing live with commercials; I can't think of something more unendurable than stuck watching commercials while riding the trainer.

2. Ride 30 minutes, take 2 minutes off (literally get off the bike, stretch, walk around, go to the bathroom, etc), ride another 30 minutes, take 2 minutes off, and so on.  It's like 6 x 30 2 minutes rest rather than 1 x 180.  Mentally it's a huge difference to me.
