Pre-race routine:

Spent the week at 3k near Yosemite - lots of running, biking and hiking hills. Decided on Wednesday to enter the race. Drove home Saturday, unpacked, got race packet, drank a glass of wine, packed the tri bag and began stressing. At 1 am decided to make the swim work, hammer the (new!) bike, and let the run just happen. Slept for a solid 4 hours. Grape nuts and pepsi for breakfast (an improvement over the poptart - baby steps!) Threw the bag in the car, drove the 4 miles to meet Kim at a secret parking spot. Yea!! Rode our bikes down, checked Kim in, racked everything and scouted the place.
Event warmup:

See above, plus a porta-stop.
Swim
  • 30m 34s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Happy with the swim. Did a better job staying on course, stayed comfortable, pushed it a bit at the end. Passed quite a few people from earlier waves at the end. Best exit yet.....got the zipper donw and sleeves off while running (or trotting!)
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Practice so that it's faster?
Transition 1
  • 02m 56s
Comments:

Some jerk on the tri-club rack next to mine dumped my helmet/glasses/ garmin/gloves all over...I had to look for all of them, and the garmin got a new ding. Great.

Otherwise, maybe my best yet. Wetsuit off quickly - LOTS of glide.
What would you do differently?:

Pray for karma to get the guy who trashed my stuff.
Bike
  • 1h 12m 58s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.43 mile/hr
Comments:

LOVED IT!!! 2d in my age group by less than a minute.....19th overall among 194 women!! The new bike handled it all beautifully, and it was a blast. Didn't attach my number well enough, so I had to crumple and hold for the second half.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

Felt faster than this....
What would you do differently?:

??? John??
Run
  • 52m 5s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Tried messing around with the multi-sport on the Garmin, never really got it right. Was therefore surprised when I started doing math and found my pace. Nice. Passed more than I was passed - always a good thing.
What would you do differently?:

Pick up 15 seconds somewhere. Drink and run at the same time, maybe?!?
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Missed the podium by 15 seconds. I can blame it on T1, or walking through the aid stations....or whatever. Next time!!!!

It was sooooooo great to hang out with you! And then the race started and I wouldn't see you for a very long time. It was awesome to see how strong you looked coming home! Great job out there, Linda! You rocked it!
