  1. Tell time on an analog clock - Still use one in my office at work
  2. parallel park - yup
  3. read and write cursive -  yup, although my penmanship is poor in general
  4. drive a stick - still drive one regularly, and all my kids know as well, 17,18 and 19.  When I deployed to Kuwait some years ago, most of the vehicles we were given to use were manual, it was amazing how many young airmen had no idea how to drive them.
  5. change a bike tire - yup
  6. read a map - prefer a map in most cases
  7. tie a tie - yup, half and full windsor
  8. ski - downhill, water and cross country (the only type that might be considered a life skill?)
  9. ride a horse - yup
  10. cook an omlette - I have a special pan dedicated to just omelet, it's not a goofy flip for you one either, just a pan that is the perfect size and shape.

I can do all, some better than others.

Manual transmissions will come back in vogue.

I can tie long ties, usually 4-in-hand but could get a half-windsor/full windsor given a long enough tie and sufficient time.

I can ride a horse including saddling the horse, but really need the horse to cooperate.

1.Tell time on an analog clock - Yes

3.read and write cursive - I went to catholic schools for 12 years so yes I can read and write cursive. Palmer cursive to be exact. Sister Marie Blanche would disagree.

4.drive a stick - I have never tried

5.change a bike tire - no

6.read a map - sort of

7.tie a tie - yes

8.ski - my mind knows how but my body does not

9.ride a horse - yes

  7. tie a tie

  9. ride a horse
  10. cook an omlette

I've done all of them (though 8 and 9 are not pretty). I could read this more as an "are you old?" quiz - when was the last time you absolutely had to do any of these? (I do #2 reasonably often, mrs gearboy has not done so since passing her DL test 30+ years ago; and I have done #5 as recently as this past summer, as I suspect most people here have as well. I've done #6 on some backpacking planning and trips this past year. I've stopped wearing ties nearly completely, my handwriting is awful even printed so I type my notes, and I am not a big fan of omelettes - I prefer either a nice frittata or eggs over medium.

yep, on all 10.....and pretty dang good if i might add.  well, except the horse.  you'd think i'd be an expert since my horse pro wife has two of them and i spend most weekends driving the beasts all over the country.  in my defense, it's like puting a 15yr old behind the wheel of a farrari.  what i lack in riding, i more than make up in shoveling horse poo, bathing them, and tacking them up.

I wonder if the results would be the same if I asked these questions in 10 years or so.

I suspect that certain skills are on the brink of disappearing, particularly cursive and driving a stick. I was shocked (and I am rarely shocked) to find out that my 19 year-old niece has great difficulty telling time on an analog clock. Apparently, they did not teach her that in the (expensive) private school she attended.

I wrote cursive for the first time in a while the other day - amazing I still can, but man, it was rusty. Just like my dial-telephone, carburation, and TV rabbit ear adjusting skillz. I was the shiznit back in the day.

Yes to all.   Well, I've never made an omelet but can scramble, fry, and boil.   Just give me or let me look up directions on how to make an omelet.

I shall quote the master, R. Heinlein:

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

I may have to amend my answers.  Do I ski.  Of course.   Water ski.      Snow skiing is foreign to me.  I live in the sun belt, after all.

Hmmm, must put that on the bucket list.

  1. Tell time on an analog clock - Yep, that's actually all we have at school.
  2. parallel park  - No problem in the car. In the 3/4 ton truck, it's not going to happen.
  3. read and write cursive - I've taught English for 22 years, I can read anyone's handwriting. Anyone's.
  4. drive a stick - Every day.
  5. change a bike tire - Probably will take me a while, but I have the general idea.
  6. read a map - Of course. How else do you think we figure out bike courses?
  7. tie a tie - Got it.
  8. ski - Downhill- a bit. Took it in college and haven't been since.  Cross country- big yes.
  9. ride a horse - See avatar.
  10. cook an omlette - Another yes.

  1. Tell time on an analog clock - who can't do this?
  2. parallel park - I'm from Boston where it's either learn to do this well or don't drive.
  3. read and write cursive - Does the writing have to be legible?
  4. drive a stick - Yup.
  5. change a bike tire - Si
  6. read a map - I don't need a map, we're not lost!  But I could if I actually were.
  7. tie a tie - Yes. Mr. Ciarlone taught me how in 6th grade.
  8. ski - Yes.
  9. ride a horse - No. I have sat on horses that moved down a trail, but it didn't count as "riding"
  10. cook an omlette - Yes. Folded and flat. This includes flipping.
  11. spell omelette - Yes.

I haven't done the stick shift since i learned to drive, but I could probably get us to the hospital in an emergency. Ditto with tie tying. The rest I am okay with.

OOPS: Eta... no skiing. I was expressly forbidden to downhill ski as a kid b/c of bad knees, and never learned.
