I can't tie a tie (I'm a GIRL!!!)

And while I have ridden a horse I will not claim I can ride a horse.  I mean, supervised vacation riding doesn't count, right?

Of course!

Half Windsor or full?

Not sure I'd call skiing or riding a horse a life skill, but they sure are fun.

It's been a while since I've ridden a horse, but the rest are pretty elementary for most self-respecting men. My penmanship leaves a bit to be desired, however.

Cursive...  Does anyone else have to read it?

Can't ride a horse - if you mean start with a naked horse, put on a saddle, and ride away.

Never downhill skied.  Classic or skate nordic yes though (VERY slow and awkward skating though!)

Yes to all, including saddling said horse before riding.  One of those life skills that I always thought would be useless.  Like cursive writing....

Yes to all

Although, #7, I cannot tie a bow tie and #8, I can snow and waterski, but prefer to snowboard and wakeboard.

I've also had a horse since I was 10 and just moved my wifes horse to our house a few months ago

11. Swim

Not competing, just being able to keep your head above water. Although this is more like a life necessity than a skill.

  1. Tell time on an analog clock - yes, although our living room clock has hands of equal length which can get confusing after a nap on the couch.
  2. parallel park - with the best, peeves my wife to no end that it is "so easy" for me.
  3. read and write cursive - penmanship is terrible but I could hack it.
  4. drive a stick - everyday, 6 speed diesel.
  5. change a bike tire - yup
  6. read a map - my compass and plotting skills are rusty but I can read a map.
  7. tie a tie - nope, never have learned. Hope I never need to!
  8. ski - yup, unfortunately we have no snow this year, not a good record to be setting.
  9. ride a horse - formerly dated a horse trainer, I gots deeze skillz.
  10. cook an omlette - isn't this one of the three food groups for single men? I haven't cooked one in a while but I'm sure it would come back to me.

Yes to all but 8, 9, and 10, but I should get extra points because my cursive is so wonderful (and I'm not afraid to admit it!) and I can parallel park like a beast.

I wonder if the results would be the same if I asked these questions in 10 years or so.

I suspect that certain skills are on the brink of disappearing, particularly cursive and driving a stick. I was shocked (and I am rarely shocked) to find out that my 19 year-old niece has great difficulty telling time on an analog clock. Apparently, they did not teach her that in the (expensive) private school she attended.

My omelette may not be classified as a true omelette but it would be edible and tasty.

Yes, I can and I have done all of them.  Although some I haven't done in a while, and not that well.  1 through 7 I do rather frequently.

I haven't skied since Reagan was president, and I didn't do it well.

I haven't ridden a horse in 8 years.

I don't remember when I cooked an omelette - I only did it once around 20 years ago, unless you coun't my "train-wreck" omelettes, where I fry up potatoes and pour scrambled eggs on them in the pan, so it's just a huge mess of scrambled eggs and potatoes - a truly awesome post- long run or ride breakfast.
