I guess it's good I actually detest the "social aspect", loud music, and trainers/coaches who yell during workouts.

I'm just too dang cheap for any of this discussion. I know I'm not nearly as serious as most of you, so I am a horrible metric. I own bikes. No Smart (or dumb) Trainer. No Subscriptions. No Training Plan. I own a refurbished Garmin 310XT. I understand that I am blessed to live where I live as well. I also understand how much I am saving on stuff. I should probably invest all those savings into another bike!

Enjoy the weekend everyone! We'll be out in the great wide open, spending the weekend with friends.

Under them skies of blue?

Actually, it is supposed to be rainy and grey at times, but I'll do the best with what I got.

Let's go racers! Lots of runs coming up this weekend.

Janyne, that conversion to Zwift is so cool! Did it use your own power numbers for that or is it using elevation data? Just curious if everyone doing that race would generate the same profile or whether it depends on how much the racer was pushing at the time.

I don't know if the conversion tool used power at all. The 2013 file definitely had no power involved.

The conversion tool says "using physics" so it must be taking elevation data and rider+bike weight into consideration.

Sounds good, everyone. Let's nail down some categories.

Potential categories

  • Weight loss
  • Keep on moving
  • Good eats
  • Total Distance
  • Strength/Core/Yoga
  • Flexibility (if not Strength/Core/Yoga or Keep on Moving) - would you want this to be a check off every day or some kind of goals per week? In my experience, rehab and goals per week don't work out so well so I was thinking more along the line of indicate that the exercises were completed.

Do you want to start next Monday, the 18th, or some later time?

Selfishly, I'd say some later time. Heading out of town on spring break next week. How about Monday April 1?
Im pretty much up for all of those categories. I don't know that I have much weight to loose but maintaining at my new weight is going to be a new challenge for me. April 1 sounds like a good day to start.

I just need to make an announcement that I have taken Simon off the trainer and we are going on a chilly 2+ hour tour tomorrow. It'll be his first time outdoors if I don't count the 10 minute post bike fit ride from December.

I don't have enough clothes for 47 degrees. I'm going to freeze.

Lucky you! I'm thinking Andreas's wheels may never actually touch pavement this year. In theory, I can get onto him on the trainer a week from Monday. Whether I actually can get on (and off) or not remains to be seen...May need to start out on one of the gym stationaries to begin with.

Just letting you know that I survived the epic hills in my trail run yesterday. It was extremely tough and there was far more walking than there was running. According to my Garmin there was 995m (3,265') of elevation gain and loss over the 20km. I normally love downhills but yesterday they became more brutal than the uphills. I don't think I will be lining up any time soon to do the 30k event, I'm not sure how E survived.

i am confused on how this works, but it is cool.

  1. Ride your bike and record said ride on a Garmin-type device.
  2. Sync your Garmin-type device.
  3. Log in to Garmin Connect or Strava (I'll assume Garmin from here on out) and download the GPX file
  4. Go to What’s On Zwift (https://whatsonzwift.com/gpx-to-zwift-workout/) and upload the GPX file. The software will use the elevation data that you recorded and then use programmatically figure out how hard you will have to work to get you and your bike up and down that terrain. It creates a Zwift workout file making the uphill parts your course harder and the flat and downhills easier.

For example, it might say, it took Janyne 10 minutes of hard work to get up the hill that's 40 minutes into the ride, Let's add 10 minutes of hard work there for her there to replicate that.  The file that it creates and Zwift reads is XML so it's human readable (or figure-out-able).

    Here's one tough section:

    SteadyState Duration="139" Power="0.94124431607106"

139 seconds at 94% FTP << punchy little bugger!

ETA: It didn't respect my quotes. Added the XLM back but without the < ... /> around it.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, all!  I was offline Fri, Sat., and Sun because of busy birthday fun so I missed wishing the other racers luck.  I hope everyone did great at their events.

Stacey - your event looked brutal, that is some SERIOUS elevation change!  Nice work getting it done!

Laura - I'm way late to your Zealios question and don't have the response you're looking for anyway.   I have a team discount with my coaching group so I tried a few items - one being their Betwixt chamois cream.  It's pretty good, no complaints, but I think I like Assos better but I can't qualify why.  I also have Zealios' after pool shampoo and conditioner but I haven't used them yet because I'm still finishing up other brand bottles that are already started.  I did not order any of their sunblock and can't speak to its quality.

Janyne - interesting bit about Soul Cycle vs. Peloton, wow!!  That's some major bank to do Soul Cycle regularly!

Karen - it's good to hear you have a time frame for being able to use your trainer - progress!  Keep healing!
