Master 1967 | Subject: Race Shirts Just had my fourth race yesterday. Had a great time and felt good about the way it went. I will post more when I get my splits this week. Here is my question/rant: how is it that every race I go to they only have L XL or XXL shirts left by the time I get there. Its not like, as a group, triathletes are generally huge so the organizers should order tents for everyone to wear. I am not waiting until the last minute to sign up, or getting there late. I am consistently one of the first setting up in the transition area. Yet every race I wind up with a shirt you could fit two of me into. Are they assuming that I am going to put the weight back on? Do race organizers do this just to piss people off? I need answers! Bill |

Extreme Veteran 443 Manitoba, Canada | Subject: RE: Race Shirts I don't know why they are always so big - especially when they tend to provide only men's sizes on top of that! The only race shirt that was really important to me this year was from my last race, which was my first Oly. I got there early and recieved one of only about 10 smalls, in a more feminine style than the straight (and yes always huge) t-shirts. I was thrilled, as it was one I actually wanted to wear and wasn't a tent either!. Now I just need to find a race like the one Bear did that gives you a dryfit shirt! Resident Curmudgeon 25290 The Road Back | Subject: RE: Race Shirts My guess is that you, and about 98% of the entrants, can fit into an XL. No way could I (or at least 70% of the entrants) fit into a small. If you're going to order extras, or don't know the sizes, order something that will fit the most people. When you pre-register, do you not put your size on the application? If so, why are they not giving you what you request? |

Your point about the number of people who can "fit" is well taken, but nonetheless annoying for those of us not looking for a nightshirt. |

Champion 5495 Whizzzzzlandia | Subject: RE: Race Shirts That's why race shirts make excellent NIGHTGOWNS!!! If I'm ever caught in a midnight fire and forced to evacuate my homestead, the fire fighters will be impressed by my triathlon experience, as advertised in XL cotton and splayed across my chest.... I've got 7 to choose from, not including the enormous sweatshirt I got from Lake Geneva last year. ( I wear that as part of my normal wardrobe! ) Gotta Love 'em..... New user 58 | Subject: RE: Race Shirts At least you're getting race t-shirts! I've been getting thin cotton tank tops that look like they were reincarnated from the 80's. Wide around the middle with thick straps and low necklines. Ick. I'd rather have them donate my shirt money than give me something that I'll never wear. |

Central Louisiana | Subject: RE: Race Shirts Well sounds like a pretty good race if that was the worst thing about the race! Speaking for the Clydesdale and Athena community, I sometimes get tired of getting items in my race packet that are way to small. I really don't think race directors do this to tick me off, as I really appreciate the fact that the race director has gone above and beyond to make sure that my entry fee has gone to paying race support to make the course safe, the event is insured and the voluteers are taken care of. If I end up with a pair of running shorts or a shirt that doesn't fit, it's ok. My advice is not to ever do a race for a race packet. If you do your races soley for the packet, and compete in an IM race you will be really dissapoined, they don't give you a shirt, but they will be more than happy to let you buy one. My tent wearing two cents! |

Expert 795 New Mexico | Subject: RE: Race Shirts My first race of the year was a valentines day 5k. The race shirts had a large valentine on the front. In short, my wife got two t-shirts. On a happier note, it's starting to cool off so I can soon wear the sweatshirt I received for a SUMMER triathlon. I also received a fleece ear warmer thing in recent TRI. Motivation for the winter perhaps? |

Extreme Veteran 410 The Great Pacific Northwest | Subject: RE: Race Shirts The two best race shirts I received this year were both dri-fit! One was at Danskin. LOVE that shirt! I'm so proud to wear it, and it doesn't stick to me when I run. The other was at the Super Jock and Jill Half Marathon I ran on Labor Day...a LONG sleeve shirt! I had been in the store looking for a long sleeve dri-fit for marathon training and they were going for about $40. I didn't pay that much to enter the race. I love it! The race logo is even embroidered on the sleeve! I don't think anyone does a race just for the race packet and I don't think that's what the original poster was saying. There's nothing wrong with being ever-so-slightly annoyed at the shirt sizes. I know I'm small too and rarely do they have a size small. I do wear them as nightgowns or slog around the house and be lazy shirts. Not the end of the world, but irritating to a small extent. |

Extreme Veteran 572 Seattle, WA | Subject: RE: Race Shirts One thing you can do with your old/too big race t-shirts is make (or have made) a t-shirt quilt!! There are companies that you send your shirts to and they will create a wonderful quilt!!! Just an idea for those of you who can't wear your shirt...unless you put a belt around the waist and turn it into a dress! :-) |

Thanks for the defense - I did intend the original post with tongue planted in cheek. Obviously I don't race for the T-Shirts, but I would like to have a few that fit. BTW...this problem does not seem to be exclusively a tri issue. I ran an 8k on Saturday as well and wound up with a HUGE shirt. Bill |
