Subject: NEW: Route Tracker Analysis

Marmadaddy has just went live with the new route tracker enhancements.

Who:
This is the first Performance Member feature to the otherwise free feature (see instructions and free features) as it involves a future feature that will eventually be integrated into log searching plus it offers route analysis graphs.

Access: Login and go to your route manager:
http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map-routemgr.asp

To the right, use the new 'Hx' button for accessing the route history of your routes.

What it does:

  1. For each route, you will get a LIST of all the paces of your workouts using that route with a LINK to that direct blog entry.
  2. Best and average times and paces calculated for those routes
  3. Left column custom FILTERING by route date
  4. GRAPHS, GRAPHS AND GRAPHS of your routes PACE HISTORY & DURATION HISTORY

Just curious, not sure I can phrase this coherently, but will the pace be based the drawn route, or the mileage you enter into your log? As an example, I have a 30-mile route that I ride quite often, but sometimes it's 30.00 (per garmin and cateye), sometimes it's 30.08, sometimes it's 30.16, etc. When I log my ride, I select the route from the drop-down, but override the distance with what's on the bike computer. Which distance is the Hx going to pick up?

Really cool... I had to keep flipping back weeks to see how I progressed on my routes. I didn't realize how much my AVS changed over time.

I do the same thing with distance, just did tonight actually.

Pace on the chart is based on the pace values in your blog. If you don't click the 'Calc' button to generate a pace in your blog, no pace value is returned in the table or plotted on the graph.

This is a super cool feature that I think I bugged you about doing in an email a while back. Thanks for listening. It's great to compare times and also to get that little boost when you've posted a fast one or a PB.

I think this is really cool feature that has been missing.  Thanks!

Any chance that in the future, the graph could also show Avg HR?  If the thought hasn't come up, add it to page 378 of the to-do list.

I usually record an average HR too, but something else occurred to me. I've only done much logging on one route so far and the pace graph is showing an interesting trend. Very cool!

However, it includes a lot of variability since I sometimes run the route for recovery, sometimes for tempo, etc. I don't have my runs logged with HR zones but, if I did, that might be a way to clean up the graphs. Either separate graphs by HR zone for a route, or multiple lines on one graph to link the paces in each zone. This is not even a request from me yet, since I haven't yet been logging by HR zones but it might be a good reason to start. As above, you might consider this for the back pages of your to-do list.

In future versions of this tool, we will add in HR analysis per those routes.  By the years end, we should have the ability to 'categorize' a workout as LSD, recovery, tempo, etc. so you will be able to compare apples to apples if we include avg HR's.

Just saw this and it is way cool even though it shows where I have been slacking...drat.  As a future upgrade maybe Marma or Ron can run for me and pass the physical benefits back to me.  Just dreamin'.

For some reason my bike race route has a N/A in the history column.  Any idea why?  It is the only one and one that I really wanted to track.  Thanks and great new feature.  Julie

Route Analysis only applies to routes designated as Swim, Bike or Run. Race routes don't apply as they can be multiple legs/sports. If you edit the route and save it without the Is Race? box checked, the Hx button will show up.

what if Hx does not show that you did this route (although the link is in my log and I marked the time and calc that day)  How do you add history to a route?

Jerry,

You have it entered in the Overall Comments box for the day. In order for a route to show up in the Route History it has to be selected from the Route dropdown above the Equipment selectors.

I have attempted to import 2 GPX files that I exported from the Garmin log application. Once it left out part of the route, and for another, while the actual route is correct, the distance imported is less than what it is in the original app.

I tried exporting it multiple times, with the same result.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Thx.

For the first file, I'd have to take a look at it. Email it to [email protected].

As to the distance being shorter, the upload process will remove some points if they're very close to each other. We do this because had some problems at first with huge files being uploaded to our database. What's workable as a local file on your machine isn't necessarily workable for a web based app.

The best way to avoid/minimize this is to use Smart Recording on your GPS device.
