Swedish goggles! Who else uses them?

 Crystal Lake, IL |  Subject: Swedish goggles! Who else uses them?I tried these for the first time this morning. Sweet! I loved them. Putting them together is a pain in the a$$ but I can't believe how well the seal. Especially since they are just hard plastic. No gasket-type material at all. Amazing. With my old goggles it was put em on, check, swim, empty, reset, etc until I got them just right so the leaking wasn't too bad. And if I had to take them off and then put them back on the leaking was usually worse. I took these on and off a half dozen times and they never leaked a single drop once. Really cool. And you can't beat the price! 5 bucks at the tri store which means they are probably cheaper online. Anyone else with comments on them, good or bad? If you use them, do you trim the ends of the strap after you knot the second loop or do you leave it the way it is? |

Chris showed me his SOCKET ROCKETS (by TYR).... they are generally the same thing, except they have a very thin layer of silicone or something around the socket edges. I love them too. I have 750,000 pairs of discarded goggles in a drawer in my bedroom... I use these every time I swim. They were about $11.00 online. Check 'em out here |

They're the same plastic, uber-awesome looking cup as Swedes, but they have a piece of elastic as a nose bridge instead of that blue plastic barrel. I used them all throughout my competitive swimming days - wouldn't dream of using anything else. Kiefer usually has them for a decent price. Like $7.95 I think. |

Who else uses them? oh yes, all the cool swimmers use the sweedes  to make assembly a little easier, you can snip a length off the end of the strap and use that for the nose piece instead of the string/blue plastic they send with it. and it's a little adjustible. one thing that i've noticed on sweedes vs socket rockets is that the sc are a little more durible. the strap they send with the sweedes tends to age and get brittle. i wear sweedes all the time but i usually carry a spare set of speedo goggles, just in case the sweedes snap before the race. |

I could see how that would be very damaging. I haven't been quicked in the face yet, but I have taken a few good shots and one to the shoulder last weekend that would have put one of those lenses through my skull if it hit me in the right(wrong) spot. |

Bob there is that fear without padding, but getting kicked in the face hurts no matter which goggles you decide on. i've been kicked many a times and i have not suffered cuts as a result of wearing sweedish goggles. but yeah, it's not like you have to wear them all the time (so long as you know your "race goggles" are not going to leak). perhaps it's incentive to swim faster |

I have like 6 variations of them to go with my changing moods and environments. The red ones are great, they make the buoys look bright white on a cloudy day. I move faster when I "see red". It sometimes looks like bloody water with them on at sunset, creepy... |

The bridge of my nose is rounded instead of straight (the bain of my existence!!!) and regular goggles were terribly painful. Switched to socket rockets and LOVE them, and they come preassembled. Same good points of the swedish, with slight layer of extra softness around the rim. I have had few positive moments in the pool, and wearing these for the first time is top #1 so far. I have two clear lens and one metallized so far. Need to look out for a red pair... I've paid around 6-8 for them in stores and on trisports. |

I started wearing them because I would break out in a rash around my eyes from the foam on other goggles. I love them. They never leak and they're cheap. Never thought twice about wearing them in a triathlon as being dangerous... Thanks for giving me something else to be nervous about.... jeez! |

The rubber on them was so deteriorated I could throw them against the wall and they would stick. I wonder if they TYR uses a different material in their rubber. |

I have had my same 2 pairs (one metalic for OWS, one light for pool swimming) of swedes since 1994 (high school) and have swam somewhere in the neighborhood of 5000 hours with these. Had a total of one leak (in 1997). Love swedes - never had a problem with cracking - have had to change the nose string a few times but that is it. If you get hit in the face, they do tend to leave more of a mark than a padded google. |

I have a wide nose bridge and have not been able to wear most others plus they are inexpensive and work great. I have two pair, one clear and one smoke, had them a year and are holding up well. Not sure about how long the strap material will last. |

You can cut the end of of one of the head straps and replace it. I learned that last week at Paradowski's Swim & Sport in San Diego... They rock! |

Now when I put my old ones on, I feel claustorphobic (sp?) because with the SR's I can see all around me. For me, I went with the Tyr's because they come preassembled and no messing with the blue string thing. It comes in the package with them but I like the rubber strap. I have 2 pair, smoke and blue. I think I paid $6/each on swimoutlet.com. Mindy |

Using the headstrap piece as a nose bridge sounds like a good idea - much easier than trying to get the string to exactly the right length too. If you've never done this, its harder than it sounds. I also freaked out the first time (and 2nd and 3rd) time I came up to the wall and could see it. Whoa! There's a wall there! I love the visibility! |
