How often do you take ibuprofen?

Master  3127     Sunny Southern Cal |  Subject: How often do you take ibuprofen?As I reached for the ibuprofen bottle tonight to deal with the increasing soreness from my latest fitness-related malady, I began wondering how often others are taking pain or anti-inflammatory meds... Me, I'd guess I'm on this stuff about one day a month anymore for one thing or another. Sometimes less, sometimes more. I wish I never did, but my pain threshold is on the decline. |

But I took some this morning for the "after volleyball" soreness... I'm thinking I might have done some real damage to the shoulder. |

The only time I take it for muscle soreness is when it is painful... but then I realize that I must rethink what I'm doing if my soreness level is on the verge of painful. |

| Subject: RE: How often do you take ibuprofen? I take it for headaches/migraines and menstrual cramps. Never for muscle soreness. If I actually injure myself, I'll take Tylenol if it's bad enough, but for general soreness caused by working out, I don't. Not good for you, or your stomach lining.

Veteran 197 Circle Pines, MN | Subject: RE: How often do you take ibuprofen? I was just told by the doc yesterday to start taking it daily. I have come up with a nice case of Plantar Fasciitis. So for the next month I am suppose to take it a couple times a day, and ice my foot, and stretch. Oh yeah, no walking around barefoot or in socks. I am suppose to wear a good pair of shoes when walking around. Glad I just went out, and bought a new pair when the pain started in my foot. Maybe I can start to run again in a month. | New user 3 | Subject: RE: How often do you take ibuprofen? NSAIDS can be taken on a regular schedule but you should have your renal function monitored. The most common problems with taking NSAIDS such as ibuprofen is that it may lead to stomach / upper GI ulcers and bleeding. The first sign would be a darker to black colored stools. Also in rare occasion it can lead to renal failure which is usually reversible if caught early enough. If you are worried about your kidneys go get a baseline blood test to see if you have any underlying problems. Also, people run into problems when they take max strength or higher levels of ibuprofen on a daily basis for long periods of time. If you follow directions and use the medication appropritely you should have little to no side effects. |

Oh wait, I guess I would take it too for period cramps, but those are the only times. Knock on wood, I don't have pain from working out, so I don't need it from that... and if I do get that kind of pain, I like it, LOL! |

But ibuprofen only masks the pain and does not really relieve it. so if you have something serious going on it can actually "hide" it from you and you might do something else to make it worse. Plus it can cause kidney issues and after being disgnosed with 5 kidney stones I want to avoid anything that might f-ck up my kidneys more. |

I use it during allergy season (it works for me) and for general soreness. Lately, though, I've backed off of everything to let my body detox. Now, I don't need it as often, and it's more effective when I do. In fact, I'm about to pop a couple for the little tweak in my back. I worry about the blood thinning effects, though, particularly during race season. |

I don't even bother with tylenol. It's like throwing rocks at a semi. I did take advil after a marathon, but I'm pretty sure I needed it. |

I try not to take it, but I suffered a pretty nasty ski crash in February and was taking close to the daily max recommended for several weeks. I did find that 400mg works just as good as 800mg for me. And it was take the Vitamin I or take Percocet and I really didn't like how that felt. I just recently separated my shoulder and took it when needed for about a week after that. Otherwise I avoid pain meds. |

I carry the jumbo size bottle at work...600 mg takes away almost all headache/back ache or other issues going on and I share with my co workers cause they all know I'm the one with the stuff...I do use biofreeze as much as possible when home but that stuff stinks like ben-gay |
