  • Comments: Very nice organization for this classic event. I'm looking forward to doing it again next year. One thing that I like about the race: the entry fee is kept lower by making various swag-features optional. No medal, no tech t-shirt, lower cost. And even the flyers etc in the typical race packet are now electronic. That plus the easy metro accessibility make it a nice low-impact race.

  • Comments: For the first race of the year coming off injury I was super stoked with how things went. I am in much better shape than I anticipated I would be at this time of year. Things are looking up for marathon training and setting more PRs this summer if I stay healthy. This was a great course and quite scenic when I remembered to take a look around. I feel fortunate to get in through the lottery and to have my sister there to cheer me on.

  • Comments: Excellent organization- hard to see that there were almost 20,000 runners there. The only thing they should do differently is do bag check by last name and NOT by bib, all the fast runners that were done first all wanted their bag at the same time. Waited for a long line in the cold! It would be better if they were staggered.

  • Comments: *what did I do right - Taper went well , 30 minute prerace massage was good , limited activity day - before race , simple dinner night before Blood sugar 330 in am . 22 grams of carb . 3 units of insulin to cover carb + correct BG . Too much insulin for correction or not enough protein ?

  • Comments: Good race, but they need WAY more port-a-potties - I heard later there were only 175 for ~20,000 people. Or at a minimum tell people they need to arrive absurdly early.

  • Comments: Tons of food left over. One of the volunteers begged us to take tons of leftover bananas. Ended up filling up our race bags and easily came home with 50 bananas. Looks like a LOT of bananas smoothies this week!

  • Comments: Great Big Run Race. I am not a runner, & not built for HUGE races. But anyone else reading this who 1) is a runner, & 2) likes the huge races w/ tons of crowd support should really enjoy this race, & know that this is probably just what they're looking for! I did it to keep me consistently running longer, I love a nice flat course, and it's local to me. Someone else like me should know that there was still good reasons to do it!

  • Comments: This is an exceptionally well-executed event, and I was amazed at how smoothly the check-in went this year given the huge number of people checking in during the late morning. Just 2 minor things: 1) For the third year in a row, I clocked the race distance at 10.1 miles.. and 2) For the third year in a row, the awful race t-shirt is going straight to the rag pile.

  • Comments: The drink stations were very crowded. Someone here mentioned skipping the first tables and going to the later ones, but that didn't really seem to help. All the drink stations were behind on have filled cups. No cups were ready to go, and you had to wait for them to be poured. This probably added up to a fair amount of time.

  • Comments: a few comments on the race: 1.) packet pick up in dc is a nightmare. it took us 4 hours to get in, get our packets and get out. pain in the butt. next year, if we do it again, we should ride our bikes in for packet pick up. 2.) they give you the option of upgrading your free cotton tee shirt to a techinically one for a (not insignificant) fee. we did this and when i got there (2 hours before the end) they had already run out of the size i ordered. the woman said they allowed size switching. this pissed me off. if you have everyone pick a size, and if you have to pay for a certain size, there should be no switching unless there are extra. i will never wear a medium shirt. they are like pajamas on me. i put my name down to be mailed the correct size. we'll see if it ever comes. 3.) the course is incredibly packed. too packed. we went off in the red wave which was the 1st or 2nd wave and we were jammed. 75% of the racers started after us. i cannot imagine what they had to

  • Comments: The muffin and banana were just okay. For a race of that distance, I am used to a bit more food. I would have killed for an Ensure or something like that. They did give something like 97k to charity, so at least our money went to a good cause!

  • Comments: Pros: local race good course good weather this year lots of people we know who ran Cons: they moved packet pickup from Arlington to DC. Quite hectic to get in/out on a beatiful Saturday during the CB festival they ran out of shirts and bags at the expo. they should have had more volunteers directing people to the open port-o-potties I never got a bottle of water at the end. Granted, I didn't look very hard, but they should have had them available in the finishing chute. Crowded course. They may want to consider smaller waves with more time in between. I am guessing they need to open the streets. Overall, a good race that I am sure I'll do again. While I have more cons than pros, I still enjoy this race. I can only imagine the production it takes for how many runners there are.

  • Comments: They can add some port-o-potties at the start. There seemed to be more people in line for these, than at the starting lines. Other, than that, everything was great. I would have liked a medal though.
